PMS in a Handbasket--Don't be afraid, just bring us food... Part 23

Ellery thinks that day is night and night is day. Breastfeeding is a nightmare. My hormones are all over the place and I've been crying a lot. Kevin ruined Christmas by coming over to my parents house and seeing everything I had planned on getting him for Christmas so now we're not even going to exchange presents. My head hurts. My ta-tas hurt and are leaking. I can't wear a shirt for more than an hour without having milk running down it. And that's with wearing those pad thingies. Ellery is still not latching on good. When she's awake I can't seem to satisfy her because she will only eat for a few seconds at a time and then let go and get frustrated. I feel like it's my fault.

Other than that, she has gained 8 oz this week and is very healthy. Thrush is gone, jaundice is gone and the eye infection is better. I got to get a few hours of sleep today while my parents watched the baby and fed her a bottle for me. That's really all I wanted for my birthday anyway. Hopefully I can feed her and take a shower, that would make me feel a lot better I think.

OMG, Ash. I've been through all of that, and it just came rushing back to me reading about your problems. I SO feel for you.

It sounds like you're producing milk well. ;) A suggestion... I don't know if you have a breast pump, but you can do this manually also. Right before you nurse, try pumping for a couple of minutes. I had a similar problem when I nursed Molly, and it was actually that she was getting too much in her mouth at once, so she would pull back. My Dr. suggested pumping a little before I started nursing so it wasn't squirting her in the back of the mouth and drownihng her. It worked, so it might be worth a shot for you.

Hang in there. It gets easier.

Ash  It'll get better. Hang in there.

Hello TTA

Ash, all of this is totally normal. If we had told you this before the baby came, A: you wouldn't believe it, and B: it wouldn't matter, you'd love her anyway.

What is going on with the latching on? A few seconds is odd...but she has GAINED which is what you want.
Are your parents feeding her a bottle of formula? It's possible that your body is trying to do it's job with the breast milk and when you do the formula, well that really fills them up. Your body can't know what is going on there. I know it's hard but you need to put the baby to the breast any time she is hungry at this age. Your body doesn't know how much to make otherwise.

Welcome to feeling like it's your fault. As far as I know, that is permanent.  You are doing a great job. Just LOVE her like you are doing!

There is a meet going on in DC, the weekend of January 18th! Airtran flies non stop ATL to BWI

so does united and a few others LOL ----- have to finish xmas shopping first

I am home, have a little time before I have to go to work, someone will be having a fed ex delivery on Wed :cool1:

Hang in there Ash, it does get easier! You have quite a few BTDT Moms here! 3P's advice of pumping a bit first is a good one.

Yes, that is a good idea of Robin's. I had SO much milk when I had Alyssa. No more Dolly Parton jokes from me as I was huge! I did give bottles of formula to my boys starting when they were really young, but I was ready to stop the bottles if they even seemed like they were beginning to have any confusion. Or you could always pump on one side while nursing Ellery so you have a reserve bottle (I did this a lot since I was able to pump much faster when I was nursing and I had plenty of milk on one side for a feeding). I had a good, although inexpensive pump that made it easy to do.

Robin, you're going to come see us next month, right? I'll be your escort...meant in the most uninnuendoey way possible. ;) We could have fun. :rolleyes1 And yes, I'd be responsible for the jello shots. AND it would give me such a wonderful inspiration for cleaning my house. :thumbsup2

I found the recipe I was looking for. They're called fudgy bonbons and of course it will require a trip to the grocery store. I'll make them for the party tomorrow.

yet another quick hello. DD10 has had a big day. First a basketball game (they won), then she ran her first 5K with Girls on the Run. She is now feeling it.
DD8 and I have to go to a gymnastics team party so I can't be here (pout, pout).

Hugs to all of you whether you need them or not. Have I told you all lately how fabulous you are?
