Plus size models...PLEASEEEEE!!!

Ahhh ... advertising.

This is along the same line as shoe displays for women's shoes. They use the smallest size (6) as the display shoe when the average size is what, 8 ... 8 1/2? It's because the 6 "looks" better. Annoying, but that's what it's all about.

It is all about body shape.

Adoptive mommies sometimes pack on the pounds too. :rolleyes1

At 5'2" and 145 lbs., I wore a size 12. Two years and two children later, at 175 lbs., I wear a 16.

Baby got back! :rotfl2:

Plus-size. Junior. Misses. Whatever. As long as I can breathe in my pants, I'm good. :lmao:

OK, that was a typo.. I'm 5 ft 3 140 pounds,,,not 160...whoops

I sure as heck wouldn't considered myself big if I was once again a size 12. My wedding dress was a size 12 and I weighed 135 lbs and I'm 5'6.

well, I have to agree that to me 12 is plus sized...its "all relative" of course...but I'm petite, and I can assure if I were a size 12 I'd be well above a healthy weight.

I don't think its fair to judge based on a wedding dress, those sizes are not "real world"...

Yep. I generally wear a size 12. I weigh 135, but I'm only 4'7". I'm actually considered to be obese. :sad2:

Ladies clothing never takes into consideration how tall or short a person is. We're all supposed to be about the same height. If we need a larger size around, then we must be taller. And if we need a shorter size, then we must be 20" around.

So no clothes that we can buy off a rack are actually "real world".

But, I don't believe that in "normal" people, a size 12 is a plus size.

I do wish that models were "real" and manufacturers made "real world" sizes.
And that ads used people of the right size to model the clothes they are trying to sell.

size 12 is a plus size. Sorry but it is..

While I agree that they should use models that represent the majority of the line they are selling, if you are size 12, you are "big"

No, it's not. While "big" is subjective, plus sizes started out as sizes above a 16. Now, they sometimes do include 12 and 14, but it's a different 12 (12w) than a regular 12.

I do not think a 12 is plus size but its about what you think of your own body not what others think,if your a 12 and do not FEEL like your fat than good for you, I wish I could think that way...I am not a 12 but befor I had my dd2 (she is my 2nd) I was a size 0 and i was a size 0 on my wedding day but now 4 yrs later I am a 4...yeh yeh I know thats not fat but for me who has always been size 0 that is a big change...I do look better (5'6) 104 does not look great on me but I do feel like i failed to loose my baby weight and when I had to throw away all my skinny jeans it was awful but i alsways get the "oh but your still small" it does get on my nerves.I wish I could could just be ok with my weight but it is still hard so good for you if your ok with your body no matter what size it is and when you see smaller women just know that some of them are jealous that you are so happy with your curves.

Not 'real world' - what are they?

A lot of people are missing my POINT.

I just am annoyed that they use OBVIOUSLY smaller women than they are selling these items to.

If they just used a 14w sized model, I would have no problem but some of these are idiotic.

If this woman is a size 14, I will buy and EAT that shirt.

Well, the shirt appears to be a 14 - its hanging all off of her!!!

The stunning size 12 model branded 'too fat' for TV competition

Appearing here for the first time in the outfit which sparked the debate about size zero models, Miss Hunter - who was criticised on the show for being too fat - said: "This is what a real woman should look like.

"I am all curves and flesh, not skin and bone. Boys, who would you rather snuggle up to?"

Looking as different as chalk and cheese, the swimwear clings to Miss Hunter's voluptuous curves and reveals acres of cleavage while on clinically underweight Miss Berglund, it shows her protruding hips and ribs and appears to hang off her.

Barmaid Miss Hunter, 24 - who weighs 11 stone and is a healthy size 12 - was reduced to tears when she was castigated on the reality TV show for not taking a food and exercise regime seriously.

Judge Tandy Anderson, managing director of Select Model Management, criticised her for having "stocky" legs while supermodel Rachel Hunter, a fellow panellist, reprimanded her for saying she wanted to prove larger women could be successful models.

Swedish blonde Miss Berglund, 18, who made it to the final with her, was meanwhile praised for having a "sensational" body for modelling despite having a body mass index of 16.1.

It fell well below the minimum BMI of 18 for models taking part in Madrid Fashion Week in September, set after catwalk model Luisel Ramos dropped dead from self-starvation.

But mother-of-one Miss Hunter triumphed when viewers voted her to the top female slot in the contest - and claimed she owed her success to her favourite dish of hotpot and chips.

In a refreshing admission which will have millions of women breathing a sigh of relief - and letting out their stomachs - she said: "It's fantastic to know the public prefer a woman with a few wobbly bits over a stick insect.

"I am a northern lass - I like my hotpot and my shepherd's pie and I have a very sweet tooth.

"My wardrobe is stuffed with clothes that don't fit but I scrub up pretty well. I like to think men see me as a yummy mummy."

Her confession comes after a chorus of calls for the fashion industry to stop using stick-thin and underweight models. Designer Giorgio Armani recently took a stand by banning size zero models from his shows.

Wigan-born Miss Hunter, who beat five female hopefuls to the top slot after refusing to bow to pressure, claimed her win proved women could not relate to skinny models.

The divorcee triumphed over eight-stone Miss Berglund - who was dubbed "the walking skeleton" - but was beaten to the overall prize of a modelling contract by a male competitor.

In a blog diary she kept throughout the show, in which she cheekily gave herself the nickname "fat bird," she announced: "I am doing this for every hardworking single mum and every woman who isn't a size eight or below.

"You don't have to be a size eight to be beautiful. I am trying to change an industry that is so set in its ways and its definition of what is beautiful. It is so hard and harsh at times.

"You analyse every step you make, every mouth full of food you take. As long as I am being me, I am not going to regret anything I do."

'FATTY'/Followed by the 'more acceptable' size:

Her size 12 is equivalent to a US size 8, though. ;)

but I think she looks healthy and in no way overweight, and the fact that they said she was overweight and should look like that second girl totally grosses me out. That second girl, to me at least, looks like she is wasting away and looks truely sick.

This is no way that second pic isn't photoshopped. I mean, what exactly is under that suit between her cleavage and her hips?

looks like her ribs to me if we are thinking the same thing.

No, I mean the big lumps about at her waist.

Those are either her ribs, or her pelvis!! :headache:

Rant Alert!

She looks like a holocaust victim. I think it's disgusting and dispicable that a body like that could be promoted as something to strive for. And we wonder what could possibly be driving thousands of girls to starve themselves to death every year. :sad2: In my oh so humble opinion, it's irresponsible advertising and should not be allowed. Just as cigarette ads were banned in magazines, so should images promoting an extremely dangerous physical condition. You can't tell me that if she had a complete physical tomorrow, there wouldn't be major problems with something like vitamin and electrolyte levels, blood pressure, bone density, kidney function or fertility. No, you don't want to be dangerously overweight either, but I guarantee I'd rather be 25lbs over my ideal weight than 25lbs below, and I'd probably be healthier too.

No, the human body does not have ribs where I'm looking. See where the bathing suit ends at her legs? Approx. 3 inches up from that. They are huge lumps. Am I crazy?

Pelvic bones.
