Plus size models...PLEASEEEEE!!!

I've never been able to shop in a plus size store, even when I weighed a lot more than I do now. A PP was right. Those clothes are cut much more generously than their similarly numbered misses sizes. A plus size 14 is MUCH larger than a misses 14. I think it's more like an 18. God forbid you get in that in-between zone. I call it "Begular." You're not big, you're not regular, you're begular. You cannot find clothes to fit. You'd better gain weight or lose weight.

If I'm looking at a plus size ad, I want to see a plus size model. If I'm looking at a petite ad, show me a short woman. Show me some respect and don't try to con me.

And please, a 12 is NOT plus size.

LOL! I am beginning to wonder if its the entire Earth or just the DIS. Sometimes I honestly wonder if I've entered some other realm of reality when I come here. :lmao:

Didn't you know that on the Dis all women are a size 4 or smaller, have no debt, have perfect children, and can cook a 3 course meal for under $10? ;)

By the way- Craptastically annoying is a great adjective. :lmao:

I think we ARE living in the land of "Anorexia- the Look".
As for me, I'd much rather look like this - Marilyn Monroe was a size 14 by this time

than look like this.. and she can say she's not anorexic all she wants, but please, look at her head in relation to her body!

Wanna guess which one men would choose?:thumbsup2

Does anyone remember when "plus size" models were in more demand? There was a magazine called Mode and they had all plus size models. Remember Emme?

Some clothing companies make the same clothes in both "regular" and "plus" sizes (so they can use one model), if they don't, they really should be showing their clothes on plus size models.

I think Emme is beautiful!!!

Wow, in my opinion, Marilyn proves that having some "fat" is hot! Thanks for posting this!

Funny I often thought about this but never said anything about it. But yes it is stupid putting these skinny models in the pictures for plus size. Heaven forbid a woman with some meat on her is put in the ad. :scared1:

I too wish companies would actually use models who fit the clothing sizes offered. There are many beautiful women who are plus-sized. Marilyn Monroe was hot!

And 12 is not plus-sized... yes, it is at the higher end of the standard sizes, but it isn't plus-sized.

I was told they prefer not to use larger women because the camera adds weight and smaller usually means fewer stretch marks, bumps and veins to retouch.

I'm a size 24 right now and don't shop online at all because all my weight is in my hips and butt and I have to try things on to know how they will look on me! I'm working on getting the weight off (lost 9 pounds so far) and am a
little sad right now. That is because when I get to size 12 I'm still going to be plus size! I have a long way to go!!

And I agree with the original poster! I may be fat, but I'm not stupid!! I know that woman is not a size 14!!

There are many successful plus sized models besides Emme. First person who comes to mind is Kate Dillon, who starved herself to be a size 8 so she could model. Poor thing was anorexic and her agents were screaming at her to lose MORE weight, meanwhile she was 6 feet tall. I'm 5'10" and at my skinniest most Olive Oil weight I was a size 8 and its NOT a good look. But they were telling her she was too FAT. She finally got tired of it and started eating again, and discovered plus size modeling. She models a lot for MODE magazine and is very successful, much more successful than she would have been as a regular model. That said, I don't think she is bigger than a 14 or 16, so not technically "plus size". I think they should get women who really are well into plus size clothing - size 20, 22, 24 - surely they can find beautiful women in all sizes? Look at Queen Latifah, she is just gorgeous and she's a big woman. She'd be a great model, clothes look fantastic on her imo. If I were a size 22 I'd want to see someone who is the same size modeling the clothes, not someone who is a size 14, kwim?

I so agree OP! I'm a size 18 and I do a lot of shopping on the internet. I go to plus size and there are no plus size models wearing those cloths. :headache: I was looking at bathing suits the other day for our cruise coming up and every model wearing those swimsuits were no where near plus size!

I would like to see the clothing I'm buying on bigger models so I can tell a little more what it would look like on me.

This makes me so mad. I hate when I go to a web-site for Plus size clothing and the models they use have never been overweight in their lives.

Here is an example. This model is wearing a bathing suit that the smallest size is a 14W...SHE IS NOT A 14W...No way.

Well...I used to model and am what they label as a "plus sized"; but I'm over 6ft tall and am in a 14-16.

I agree it would be more helpful to see how something actually fits on a real body, but for the manufacturers and people shooting the models it's all about time and money. Retouching involves both.

Doesn't plus size start at 14W?

I was told they prefer not to use larger women because the camera adds weight and smaller usually means fewer stretch marks, bumps and veins to retouch.

True if they were in lingerie/swimsuits. A size 14 or 18 or whatever, in a pair of jeans and a sweater doesn't show any stretch marks. I agree that it's ridiculous to advertise a plus size garment and have a smaller model show it off. It's a subliminal ploy on plus sized women.

Who sees the same banner add on this thread I do? The website is advertising sizes 12W through 44W. :lmao:

I saw that too! But I will still point out that there is a big diff between 12 and 12W. I wore a 14 for awhile but did not fit into 14W at Lane Bryant. They aren't the same thing.
