Plus size models...PLEASEEEEE!!!

I do think the second photo was altered to overdramatize her pelvic bones. I've seen lots of rib cages and that's pretty "odd." I think if the photo had been left alone, it would have spoken on it's own.

The first model was a beautiful healthy looking girl who looks like she might have occasional trouble with her thighs if she doesn't watch her exercise. The second girl (if you can ignore the photo enhanced bones) looked like she may have started out a naturally thin girl but let it get away from her and is headed for real trouble healthwise.

Has anyone tried the virtual model at Lands End? http://levdr.mvm.com
You can use it to virtually try on clothing, like swimsuits. I have to say, the model does not have pasty white, dimply thighs like I do, but it does give me a better idea of what a certain style will look like on me.

If you have seen photos of Holocaust survivors, their pelvic bones look very similar. It may have been retouched, but I doubt it.

Maybe, maybe not.

My pelvic bones (bumps) were always quite noticeable. I wasn't emaciated, but very thin. After my third pregnancy, they were finally "covered".

The second girl looks sickly, even in the face, but the first girl's thighs are pretty darn big- too big for a model. She must carry two stone just in those thighs (j/k I have no idea what a stone is). She does look like she wasn't taking her exercise seriously.

Ahhh ... advertising.

This is along the same line as shoe displays for women's shoes. They use the smallest size (6) as the display shoe when the average size is what, 8 ... 8 1/2? It's because the 6 "looks" better. Annoying, but that's what it's all about.

I've noticed that Famous Footwear is the only one who consistently uses a bigger size in their displays. But it really is about advertising.

But think how hard it would be to find the "normal" plus sized woman. I am in a 18/20 shirt but a much bigger pant because of my tummy area. I saw a lady shopping in Lane Bryant last week that is probably similar to me in sizing but the whole reason for her being bigger on the bottom was oh so different than me....she had a MUCH larger thigh and bottom area. I would love more realistic models but it does tork me more that mannequins aren't bigger!!:headache:

Well, I know which one DH would give the eye.....If he weren't afraid I'd take a plug out of him if I caught him looking. :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I actually HAVE that swim suit!!! :scared1:

Clarification: the one in the OP's post . . . not the one just above here.

My friends dd is 16, 5'9" tall and a size 11. She just got back into modeling after taking a few years off. When she went into a very famous agency in NYC, they told her they could use her as a plus size model! Her mom thinks this is insane! they told her to lose 30 lbs if she wants to be a runway model for them, as she would need to be a size 00. She decided not to get back into modeling and went back to her school sports.

My DH looked at the two pictures posted earlier in the thread and said he would "do a size 14 Marylyn over the scarecrow in the bottom picture" any day.

I'm 5'3'' 145lbs & I am a size 10 to 12. I can't believe your SIL is in a 12 unless she is all muscle

25 years ago I was a 0 at 100lbs. What size is that today?

Well, I am 5'4" and weigh 105 and wear 0 and it is pretty loose.... So the sizing seems pretty much the same there. Oh that is in juniors though. I am too small for womens clothes. 2 years ago I wore a size 14 in womens and I did indeed feel plus sized......

I haven't read all of the replies but I have to say she deifinitely looks like a 14 to me. When you're 5'10" and up a 14 isn't that big.

I'm 5'10 and between a 12 and a 14. The model is at least 2 sizes smaller. I'd guess her to be a 6 or an 8, a 10 at the biggest.
