Please Help Me Choose a Wedding Dress UPDATE pg. 9: It's been chosen!

That's okay, that's why I wanted others' opinions. And hey, I am short, so I know finding a good style will be a challenge.

Yep, I am very 'vertically challenged'...
My 1980's wedding dress didn't do too much to help in that respect... :rotfl2:

It was very very beautiful, but it didn't help that the place that hemmed my underskirt hemmed it from the waist, bringing all the fullness up closer to my thighs-hips!!!!

The first one would be my pick.

I also love the lace one without the sash.

I wouldn't do a sash at all. As others said, it cuts you in the middle and makes a short & heavy person look more of both. I have that problem, too.

But basically, go with your gut instinct. If the moment you put a dress on, it feels "right", then that's the dress you should get (prividing it's not out of your price range).

Easy, #1 is the obvious choice. For one thing, you love it, for another, it flatters you. #2 is the second choice. I don't like any of the David's dresses. IMO they look cheap quality lace. I especially don't like the "soft" one, it looks like a '50s prom dress to me.

I agree strapless is more flattering that spaghetti straps. You might want to consider having a cap sleeve added, they can hold that up for you and see how you like it. Frankly, without the straps its fine the way it is though.

I like #1 the most, and I also like the last one. Very pretty dresses.:bride:

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I'm built the same way you are so I can sympathize with getting the right fit. I like #1 and #2; the other 3 seemed like they chopped you in two with the waistline and sash detail, not a good thing for us shorties. I liked the more ribbon-y back ties to #2 over #1, it has that more "ren faire" feel to it. But, I like the decollete line and ruching detail more in #1. You are right to be totally in luv with that dress. :hippie: I would definitely see about getting the straps off it and ordering it in white, I thought you looked best in white too.

As far as needing coverage for the ceremony in the chest and shoulder area, I would suggest a bolero or shrug that is close-fitting in the same dress fabric.

#1 - ABSOLUTLEY looks stunning.

Which one did you feel special in?

LOVE #1 and #4. Both are absolutely gorgeous. Leaning a little more towards #1, but I really like #4. All were pretty but I didn't like the last one that you showed on the model.

Hey OP, this is kind of fun. Can we help you choose everything else with your wedding kind of like the wedding they do on the Today Show every summer?:rotfl:

We could even do a virtual cake testing! Yummm.

Well, I do have a PJ on the Wedding board that I started back when I thought we might do a Disney Wedding. I can still post here if you want me to. We're both feeling very out of our league planning this thing and have pretty much no clue what we're doing, so any help is appreciated!

I know that the first dress shop (where #1 and #2 come from) the hemming is going to be $100 and the bustles will be $15 a piece for traditional and $20 a piece for French.

I've heard that David's Bridal's alterations tend to be very expensive. Does anybody have experience with them? How much would I expect to spend on alterations?

Another vote for #1. With or without straps doesn't matter. I think that without a waist "band" it makes you look longer and leaner.

I like number 1 except for those tiny spaghetti straps- couldn't they just lose those and make it strapless? I love the detailing on that one.

#4- eh not my favorite. You look better in the other ones

3-would be my second favorite as it looks Christmasy to me. With the right "sash" color or none at all it's perfect for a december wedding imho

2. blah boring

5 I like the softness of it too but it seems kind of prom-ish to me.

Congratulations! and you'll look beautiful in whatever you pick!

I like #1 (without the straps) and #5 the best. :goodvibes If it were me, I'd probably wind up picking #5 more for practicality reasons - it looks like it's a lot easier to move around in, which would be nice for the reception, and I like the white a little more versus the gold. But really, both of them are beautiful. :lovestruc

Did I write this? I feel exactly the same way. The colored sash dresses look much better without the sashes but I don't think either is as flattering as 1 and 5.

Loved #1 - but it is not flattering to your arms. Feel it makes them look huge.

The lace one - you do not notice that problem as much and it is beautiful.

#1 definitely. Do not care for the one with the black sash...even without the sash but I think you look beautiful in #1 (without the straps). Congratulations!

Our David's bridal is very expensive for alterations. My DD needed a white gown for graduation. So we found one that didn't look like a wedding gown, it was $199.00 for the dress, $399.00 for alterations. She is short also, just over 5'.

I choose #1, no straps, pay the extra for the white. My second choice is the second last one (forgot the number).

Congratualtions! You're getting married, how exciting !

I LOVE this one!! :lovestruc
The romantic softness, little more top coverage, really flatters your figure :goodvibes. The flower could go (or maybe on back), as you'll have a bouquet. My 2nd fave is the white lacy one, w/o the sash. IMHO #1 is beautiful but has way to much material to deal with. However, who are we to judge !? Do pick the one your heart desires and don't second guess, afterall it's your big day and you'll look beautiful whatever you decide!! :cloud9:

Thx for including us EB's ! This reminds me when our youngest DD was in her senior year of college in Wash State. She planned to be married right out of college, so sent the family a video of her modeling dresses so family could vote. Meanwhile she came home for C'mas and we all had fun dress shopping w/family here. She flew back to Wash. and believe it or not, she chose the very first dress she'd modeled for us via video! Needless to say, it was beautiful, as was she! :goodvibes

I love #'s 1, 2 and 5 (if I got the number right- the one with the flower). Congrats. :goodvibes
