Has anyone done a planning session without actually going down to disney world?? I'm pretty sure we will not be able to make another trip to disney after our trip this sept, so i'm wondering how that all works?? i'm pretty sad we cant either.. i really wanna try all the yumminess and what have you :(

anywho.. is it still just as fun (or not so much ) as if you were there in person??

I think Hope did actually. I thought I remembered her saying that in her TR or PJ

My mom had to have surgery on the dates we were planning to go for our second planning session. So we will have to do those over the phone, and i'm not to worried about it. But she's fine now.. everythings good.
We were able to go to the first however, and it was just like everyone said. Aside from the food tasting, everything could be done online or over the phone.
I am working with Ken Weaver, and he is wonderful. He will answer all your questions, no matter how many you have. The menu tasting was good, but you already have an idea of what everything is going to taste like, or at least what you already prefer.
I would just recommend that you look thoroughly through all these internet sites since you won't be able to meet in person and see there pictures.
I went, and I have found more info on the web and from other people than I did in my five hour planning session. There is also a mouse weddings webpage that has tons of pics of all the venues for you to look at.

Good Luck to you, I think it will be fine online!

I also forgot to say, that I didn't change a single thing on Disney's menu. I tasted the types of things I would have ordered at a restaurant and was very pleased with the taste, so I wouldn't worry to much

I am not in your situation but I would suggest sending over pictures of things you don't like as well as things you do like. That way they know what you absolutly don't want.

Yep Toni was right! I actually started a thread like this back in January and got some great tips.

DH and I couldn't afford to go down for a planning session. We had been to Disney in May 2007, DH proposed in October, we booked the our wedding in December, mass layoffs started in the field we both share in January 2008, we had Phone Planning sessions in February and March and the wedding in May!

Whew....

1. Keep in mind that ALL Escape Brides have Phone PS's and their weddings are gorgeous. So you don't have to worry.

2.It WAS difficult waiting until our wedding day to taste our cake and food for the first time. But everything was perfect. Everything tasted better than I could have ever imagined. And it was kinda cool being surprised with awesome food on our wedding day!

3. Your planner will send you a questionnaire for you to fill out a few weeks before the PS. You email it back with your answers and during the PS, your planner will guide you through everything and address ALL of the answers you gave and ALL questions you have. If you have specific concerns and need to see pictures he/she can email you images while you are on the phone. The questionnaire really covers every aspect of the wedding, even the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. If you don't know the answers, that's ok too. They will help you! We had Celeste and she was phenomenal.

If you do have specific ideas of things that you want, it will help your planner if you email pictures before the PS, so that he/she will have something to reference.

4. You will have a separate phone floral planning session. It's usually either with Rose Dizon or Laura Kidd. I was very disappointed with half of my floral, but that doesn't mean they will do a bad job for you. Probably more than 90%of the brides on the boards have had exactly what they asked for or more. So don't worry. Honestly Disney Photography worries me much more.

For the Floral PS, I sent Rose a four page word file, with about a dozen pictures (including my dress and the bridesmaids dresses, ideal bouquets, centerpieces, aisle petals, alter arrangements, etc) and full descriptions of what I wanted. I highly recommend that you do this. It made it much easier toexplain what I wanted. I also told her that we wanted a romantic, Lord of the Rings/enchanted forest feel.

That's all I can think of now. If I remember anything else I will let you know.

Nikki

Oh I remembered more stuff...

5. I chose a my cake flavors by starting a thread on this board begging for cake help. I asked everyone who had either just married at Disney or been to a PS recently to list their favorite cake combinations. I also listed the thoughts I had and asked for opinions. Everyone was so helpful!

For food, I just scoured everyones PJ's and TR's and based my food decisions on that. Disbride's taste buds rock!

I have to be honest, it really wasn't as fun but we didn't have a choice. Not having a PS at Disney is probably the one thing I regret most about this whole experience. Even shortening our honeymoon from 2 weeks to 4 days sits better with me than not going down for the PS.

But we really did not have a choice. DH and I are both architects and very few people are building right now, so architects are being laid off and firms are on the brink of closing all over the US. DH got laid off the day before we left for our wedding. And I'm still during the 3 month probation period at a job I started after searching for a job for 3 months. So we really had no choice.

If you CAN afford to go, you completely should!

If you reeeeally want to try the cake, you could order a small one and have it served at a restaurant at the Grand Floridian (since that's the bakery that makes all the Wishes wedding cakes).

Here's the thread with all the info:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1173219

You could get the 8-inch cake for $25 and share it with ME! :rotfl:

Just don't go for the ones they keep on hand at certain restaurants (i.e., the ones you don't order - you just ask for them when you show up. They only come in chocolate or vanilla). They don't taste ANYTHING like the wedding cakes, and word on the street is, they're icky!
