Yep Toni was right! I actually started a thread like this back in January and got some great tips.
DH and I couldn't afford to go down for a planning session. We had been to Disney in May 2007, DH proposed in October, we booked the our wedding in December, mass layoffs started in the field we both share in January 2008, we had Phone Planning sessions in February and March and the wedding in May!
Whew....
1. Keep in mind that ALL Escape Brides have Phone PS's and their weddings are gorgeous. So you don't have to worry.
2.It WAS difficult waiting until our wedding day to taste our cake and food for the first time. But everything was perfect. Everything tasted better than I could have ever imagined. And it was kinda cool being surprised with awesome food on our wedding day!
3. Your planner will send you a questionnaire for you to fill out a few weeks before the PS. You email it back with your answers and during the PS, your planner will guide you through everything and address ALL of the answers you gave and ALL questions you have. If you have specific concerns and need to see pictures he/she can email you images while you are on the phone. The questionnaire really covers every aspect of the wedding, even the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. If you don't know the answers, that's ok too. They will help you! We had Celeste and she was phenomenal.
If you do have specific ideas of things that you want, it will help your planner if you email pictures before the PS, so that he/she will have something to reference.
4. You will have a separate phone floral planning session. It's usually either with Rose Dizon or Laura Kidd. I was very disappointed with half of my floral, but that doesn't mean they will do a bad job for you. Probably more than 90%of the brides on the boards have had exactly what they asked for or more. So don't worry. Honestly Disney Photography worries me much more.
For the Floral PS, I sent Rose a four page word file, with about a dozen pictures (including my dress and the bridesmaids dresses, ideal bouquets, centerpieces, aisle petals, alter arrangements, etc) and full descriptions of what I wanted. I highly recommend that you do this. It made it much easier toexplain what I wanted. I also told her that we wanted a romantic, Lord of the Rings/enchanted forest feel.
That's all I can think of now. If I remember anything else I will let you know.
