Pixie Hollow id Dead!!!!

I was thinking the same thing. Not knowing anything about Harry Potter I assumed it was geared more towards a male demographic. And if that is the case, Disney is taking a real gamble saturating the park with Princesses and Fairies right now.

Harry Potter has a huge female fanbase to (me, for one). Honestly, with kids I would say it was equally popular with both boys and girls.

I saw the 5th movie on opening night, and one of the funniest parts of the night was being behind a group of 10/11-year-old girls dressed in Hogwarts robes raving to the point of hysteria about the movie and the final book, which was due out in a week. The funniest part was watching one of them finally exclaim "I WISH I HAD A TIME TURNER SO I COULD JUST GET THE BOOK NOW!!!" :rotfl:

We thought these girls came to the movies together - no, they met on the line. And they were all telling each other what HP stuff they had at home...which says something about the merchandising as well, considering that stuff is currently flying off the shelves at IOA.

If this is true and Disney is rethinking this Fantasyland expansion (and I hope it's true), I've got to be thinking they want something that will be as successful in merchandise sales as much as a theme park experience. If the Fairies franchise has peaked, or only appeals to certain demo, it's definitely worth rethinking for something better.

Agreed most of MK is aimed at Boys anyway :confused3

sorry - maybe I didn't express that right. What I mean is DS would love some more "thrill rides" - doesn't have to be coasters. (Spiderman for example) He has grown complacent with Disney. Be there, done that attitude. :scared1: I really think Disney is missing the 10-15 (maybe a bit older) demographic, boys and girls. I would love to continue to vacation at Disney, but, as most of you with children know, they are the driving force. I am certainly not going to spend that much money to go somewhere he feels just so-so about.

Well if TDO would bring IJA you would be set.

popcorn:: This thread is making me want to get out my Fairies DVDs and rewatch so that I can pick a new favorite fairy LOL!!

Personally, I think it isn't fair to say the newer fairies aren't as popular when Disney markets things the way they do. Everywhere you go you see TINK in bright neon flashing colors...when's the last time you could find a Silvermist or a Rosetta or whatever her name is Tshirt? Umm....yeah. The fairies are adorable and a nice alternative to the sixty billion princesses Disney now has.

That said....who was it that said there should be a ChipnDale rescue rangers land?? LOL I am all for that hah!

I am always in awe when Disney puts out some big new idea. I loved the initial plans for FLE but won't be sorry if they change. It always seemed a bit Dumbo and princess heavy. Dumbo? Really? Am I missing something here :confused3

Whatever they wind up with, as long as it is made of Disney awesome, I'm all for it. Maybe the whole WWOHP thing is making them realize they need to step up their game?

We can only hope

Wow. popcorn:: since I cleaned the house tonight and finished the :laundy: I wondered what I was going to do tonight.:surfweb:

My 2 cents, I would love to see most of the FLE scrapped. I have a 9 yr old son and a DH. I am a bit more pirate: than princess:. We had decided since they announced the FLE that this OCT would be our last trip to Disney. DS9 will be a Disney adult in Feb. Can't see paying adult prices for a boy when they are expanding for girls. We had decided on IOA next year. BUT, scrap the FLE, bring me new stuff in Frontierland, BK in AK and something new and fun in DHS (don't care what it is,star wars, cars, pixar... just bring it!) ooh - and somewhere new to drink at EPCOT:rolleyes1 we'll be beatin' down the door to get in. If not, WWOHP here we come! (and I really love Disney and want to go there!)

I have a question......I understand the whole Princess girly thing, but it's really only in Fantasyland...which, lends itself to princesses and castles and that kind of stuff. I've truly never understood the "Disney is all for girls" thing. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like there is alot of stuff for boys too, maybe not in Fanstasyland, but just about everywhere else. I agree that Frontierland could use some love, but there is "boy'" stuff over there and in Adventureland too. The whole Pirates thing is a boy area IMHO. Liberty Square isn't boy or girl and then in the other parks, I think of DHS as being mostly boy stuff and Animal Kingdom and Epcot being good for both girls and boys. :confused3

I think the princesses stand out because of the merchandise and I think that's because people just naturally buy more stuff for little girls so it sells better and since it sells more, there is more of it. Look at the Pirate make-over place, it just isn't doing all that well....because boys and dress-up just don't really go together and boys just aren't as interested in getting made up as little girls. Last time I was at World of Disney in DTD, the boy area had people in it, but the girl/princess area was PACKED. I know when I take my nieces to Disney I could sell my house and still not have enough money, but my nephew? Yea, he gets a few things, but he isn't nearly as interested in shopping so the boy bill is alot lower. In the end, to me, it makes sense to stock what sells. :confused3

All that being said, I wasn't wild about the FLE expansion either. I didn't like the individual Princess meet areas and was hoping for more rides anyway. I think the Ariel ride is great and I will be first in line for Be Our Guest, but other than that I wasn't impressed with the plans. It wasn't because of it being Princesses though, really it was more that I thought Disney could do better.

Please don't flame me...:hippie:

But why not covert the Swiss Family Treehouse into PH?

It's a tree, the area around it resembles Neverland, and most kids don't even know about the SFR anyway.

And another thing. Everyone is so hot about transforming the skyway into a M&G, what I want to know is if they do that where are all the strollers going?

strollerparkinglot.jpg

I am thinking that wherever they put the stroller parking lot could have something to do with the new Eticket attraction everyone wants. Introducing Disney's new Stroller Adventures RollerCrash derby! Stand in line for six hours to park your space shuttle sized stroller so that you can stand in line at a ride :) :) :rotfl:

No flames but the Faries are probaly one of the worst fits that could ever go in AL.

I never cared for the PH idea anyway, or that whip like ride in the model there (sounded like a chiropractors dream!!). I would've preferred a proper toontown be built instead.
And I hope they don't turn TSI all pirate! If they really want to re-theme it, why not go the train robber/outlaw/bandit hideout route, or something else that actually fits the theme of frontierland.

As a wheelchair user I suspect a lot of the money problems with changing the Skyway station or Tom Sawyers Island will be making them ADA compliant.

For the Skyway it won't be too bad, probably just finding a spot to lengthen the walkway up so it's not too steep. But for any major rehab of Tom Sawyers Island you'd have to do a heck of a lot of work. From the rafts to get there to almost all of the paths on the island.

They could do some minor superficial changes but anything major would require meeting ADA guidelines.

:lmao:

Yes, that is an issue.

Speaking of that area though...on that other magical wdw forum, there was a lot of discussion regarding the major bottleneck between Peter Pan and IASW...there's been some rumors that maybe the IASW entrance could be totally re-arranged.

The entrace area is actually a separate unit from the main building, as you can see here:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=disney+world&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&hl=en&hq=Shades+Of+Green&hnear=Shades+Of+Green,+1950+Magnolia+Palm,+Orlando,+Florida+32830&ll=28.420665,-81.581941&spn=0.001861,0.001773&t=h&z=19

The idea is (maybe) they would move the entrance a bit off to the back area between the old skyway and the side of the ride, although I think that could also potentially effect the Pinocchio House restaurant.

Either way, I think something should be done in that area, because it really does get very cramed sometimes.

Ducktales Land would be awesome! They should have a land for all those Disney Afternoon cartoons i.e. Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Tail Spins, Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers, Gummi Bears, etc.) That would be pretty sweet, and much better than any variation of PH.

My DS's 19 and 17 would be there in a heart beat! Ducktails, Tailspins, Chip n' Dale Resue Rangers were favorites of theirs when they were young. One of my favorite pics from our first trip to WDW is them with Launchpad McQuack  They can still sing the theme songs from those cartoons!

The Skyway would be tough but TSI would not be a problem at all. The plans involve rerouting the Rivers of America and the route of the river boat because there would be a bridge built to connect FRL and TSI.

I've never been out to TSI, so I can't speak from first hand knowledge, but I think that getting there could be the least of the problems. Once you do any major renovation to a structure, then the ENTIRE structure has to become ADA compliant. If the paths are to bumpy or narrow or whatever, then there would be an issue.

It is mostly smooth but the caves are could be a problemn even though they are mostly flat it is very tight in there.

There is so many issues with ADA and TSI - aren't you overlooking many factors Figment632? I know you see yourself as an "expert" but it seems you are really simplifing this.

The fort is not ADA accessable - no access to the second level except stairs.

The grounds have multiple staircases that take you to the upper levels of the island (such as up by the small play structure). Again only accessable by stairs and not ADA suitable.

The rope / tire bridge is in no way accessable.

The only restrooms on the island (at the fort) are not that big. I would be surprised if a wheeelchair could move around in there.

The boats - agains not accessable - no tie downs for wheelchairs.

TSI would require a complete overhall that would be a major undertaking. Rerouting the river would also be a huge undertaking.

Sigh... All of this would see the bulldozer so it wouldn't be an issue. I am not sure what your issue with me is there was you and on oter person in this thread. I appologized if I offended you but re read the thread the majority is in my favor.

To the bolded no one is suggesting otherwise.

I hope you realize that OP is not actually doing the renovation himself.
