Pixie Hollow id Dead!!!!

I love Tink but all the new farie stuff is crap. Tink was originally meddlesome and mischievous. Now in all the new movies she's a little goodie tissue.
They've totally ruined her image and it is now completely unappealing.
It was also a much more fun and original concept for her not to talk and only make "bell" noises. Now she can talk. Way to ruin one of the classic great and interesting characters new corporate Disney.

I haven't seen the new Tink or fairy stuff, so I don't know how they've worked it, but could it easily be worked into the TV/Hollywood Sci-fi alien logic?

You know, They speak a different language that we can't quite understand (bell sounds to our ears), but among themselves they can understand each other. Since the Fairy movies are mostly in the Fairy world, with them interacting with themselves, we can "understand them" for storytelling purposes, even though they are talking in their native tongue.

LOL... just trying to add a bit of explaination layer here that preserves the original while allowing for the current.

I don't know how popular the fairies are -- but Disney does. The fairy franchised has been monetized over the past couple of years with toys, DVDs, books, clothes etc. So any decision Disney makes will be based on those numbers... if those things aren't reaching certain sales targets, Disney won't be making Pixie Hollow and/or other fairy attractions -- no matter how many people say they love Tink/Rosetta/etc on message boards.

And have you noticed each year how many fairy items are on clearance. We have alot of Tink and other fairy toys, all bought on clearance. I would never pay full price for any of it, but I have gotten alot of stuff for really cheap, so I buy it then.

This is why PH is only going to be a M&G.

I wouldn't place clearance stock on purchasing trends. More often clearance merchandise is just to make room for newer merchandise, perhaps with the same theme.

If "each year" there is fairies merchandise on clearance, it means that each year they are rolling out new merchandise with the fairies on it. This is done to re-sell merchandise to people who purchased the previous merchandise. you don't need 3 identical fairies shirts...but 3 different fairies shirts will get repeat sales.

Actually, I thought in the latest movie ("& the Lost Treasure") they captured her "personality" pretty well. (If we consider that her entire personality is based on about 25 minutes of screen time in Peter Pan.) She was stubborn, hot-headed, and caused lots of trouble because of it. The first movie, not so much.

I think the more problematic part is that they've failed to make any of the other characters in the Pixie world interesting. The reason the "Princess" line works is that each Princess had her own independent story, and different girls like different princesses, making the overall selling of the items appealing to all.

For Tinker Bell, none of the other fairies have had any roll of any significance, why would little girls be invested in Silvermist? Tink's got 40 years of history and many parents like Tink. It's the same thing with when they were selling products with Ariel's sisters on them...who cares about these other characters? :confused3 I don't think the Faries marketing has been a complete bust, though....just maybe they don't feel that is strong enough to devote a large portion of the parks to them.

When they started the whole "Disney Fairies" marketing, long before there was an actual movie, I got the impression that they were going to try and give each of them their own stories. Then by the time they actually hit full gear, it became all about Tink - perhaps because they realized that would actually sell more. But there is the potential at one end of the market - young first-time readers, etc. where they can produce short story books with the other characters and build up a fan base that way.

Exactly...the characters were marketed for several years before the movie...but really NONE of the merchandise I've seen focuses much on the other characters (my DD7 likes Tink OK, but not enough that we've bought very much of the products...) I thought it was kind of bizarre that the first movie barely touched on these characters, and then the second movie virtually ignored them. (Focusing on Terrence as the main "other" character.)

Agreed most of MK is aimed at Boys anyway :confused3

I agree with this, so I don't understand why people are upset about Disney "saturating" the park with princesses. One small part of one park doesn't seem like "saturating" to me.

And if the Princess and the Frog thing happens at TSI, that would be great as well. MK can always use a good TS restaurant.

Most of would not have a problem if this were rides we were getting but they are just m&g.

I hope the Ariel / Little Mermaid items stay in the plans. They were a large motivator for our next trip. If they drop that, we will probably push our next trip to WDW out to at least 2015. Contemplating sending them a letter with as much, just in case it has any influence at all.

All of the Mermaid and B&B stuff is in motion and will happen!

Mermaid is under construction already and they just filed permits to start on the BatB restaurant.

In general yes, but with the fairies I have to go with jenseib on this one -- the fairy stuff is on clearance WAY more frequently than other character products. In fact, my local Target put their Disney fairy stuff on clearance, and then gave them a much smaller part of the aisle than what they had. I think they tested the market and found it to be smaller than what they had hoped. I don't think fairies are going away anytime soon, but it's not the franchise they had hoped it would be.

That is true, they do keep bringing more out, but honestly it isn;t out for long before it goes to clearance as well. And I think the movie was delayed so they had alot of merchandise out a year or 2 before the movies. I know I bought several things ..On clearance..from the Disney store at least a year before the 1st movie came out. My DD likes the movies, but doesn't demand me to buy any of the merchandise, like she assk for with many other things. But if the price is good, I have bought it.

She has a beautiful full length "tinkerbell" ball gown that I got on ebay for dirt cheap. She RARELY wears it, but she has a yellow Belle dress that is almost to rags at this point and she wears it all the time.

My daughter LOVES Pixie Hollow- especially Tink of course... but it would be sad to see this project lost, too... are they going to keep Minnie and Mickey now??? If so than I don't mind... :)

But I've seen posts on here that I totally agree on... Magic Kingdom is ALREADY for boys! They really don't have anything girly girl at all!

I guess if they really wanted to, they should rehab Mickey's little town or build a "Wonderland"...........

But they do need more rides! :flower3:
