Pixar Cruises

Anybody back from the 2nd Pixar cruise yet?

If so, Welcome Back! Any whale sightings? Did anybody take the Muir Woods tour?

We're back. :( no whale sightings that I heard if, but my father in law saw dolphins a couple of times. And there are sea lions on the SF and Ensenada piers.

Just off this morning! I did see some whale tails and water spouts off in the distance while at brunch on Thur. Later that evening, I chatted with our neighbors in the cabin next door and they said that there were some whales right alongside the ship that they saw from their balcony! Dd and I were in our room around that time too. So bummed we missed it!

Who did you guys have for your Pixar presenters? Was it a couple presentations and an autograph session?

1st sea day - Roger Gould - Creative Director for theme parks
2nd sea day - Tia Kratter - Art Director (most recently for Brave)

There was a panel discussion / Q&A session with a producer and several directors of Pixar Shorts as well. It was on one of our San Francisco days though, so no feedback on that from me, as we were out & about enjoying the city.

I'm afraid I'm not much help on the autograph sessions either. I know they had a couple, but since they really aren't a big draw for us, I didn't pay much attention to the details. Sorry

Sorry, we didn't do the Muir Woods tour but we did see whales on our second sea day (Thursday). I was out on the verandah in the afternoon and saw what I thought was a spout in the distance. Sure enough, we had about 6 or 7 sightings. They just surfaced and went back down (no deep dives with tails out of the water though...that is what I was hoping for).

We also saw a lot of seals in San Francisco and Ensenada and some dolphins as we pulled out of Ensenada.

oh I forgot that we saw tons of whales when we were sitting in Diversions on Thursday late afternoon for sports trivia (between 345 and 445 is when we were there)--right out the starboard porthole windows and some were really really close to the ship....we saw at least 15 different blow hole fountains and lots of backs and fins. (did not have my camera on me at that time boo) I went back to the room to start getting ready for dinner since it was semi formal night and saw a few more from our verandah as well but was not quick enough with my camera to capture them.

I snuck out of dinner for sunset pictures on Saturday night and somehow missed the dolphins...because when I came back into Parrot Cay a ton of folks were standing at the port side windows looking out... I just assumed they were watching the last of the sunset but when I got back to my table my mother in law said people were saying it was dolphins...I had just been too focused on getting the sunset shots since we didn't have many opportunities for those

The seals and sea lions in Ensenada are fun to watch as well and swim and sunbathe right under the ship.

We also went on the Shopping tour of Ensenada. Many complained about the smell, but we were whisked into one of many buses right off the ship, so I guess I was more focused on getting on the right bus. The tour went to an old winery that they actually just put the labels on the bottles at now. They had a nice little tasting, and there was some interesting artwork. We drove past the local college, and then toured their conference center that used to be a casino. We were then taken to downtown where they told us to stay within an 8 block area as these were the only stores that accepted dollars instead of Pesos. I was disappointed that we only were allowed one hour here. We had a beer and nachos and we could not get the server to bring a bill or tell us what we owed. I guess they were hoping we drank more. We had to rush back to the bus, and did not get any time to look in the shops.

Great to be back home in sunny warm AZ! Now researching Vacation Club!

I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but if you do buy Vacation Club from a timeshare reseller it will be cheaper but you probably cannot use your points to cruise on Disney Cruise Line... ALOHA, Karen

We just got back last night. Cruise was AMAZING. Our least favorite part was the port adventures in Ensenada. We did the shopping trip and I just thought it was pretty awful. Civic center was pretty, winery was just a room with disorganized tasting and then the shopping was an hour long and very rushed an not to exciting at all. For the length of the trip there should have been enough time to eat lunch. My kids were bored out of their minds - at the winery they did not even have water or anything for the kids. I guess I feel since we paid for them to go they should have at least had some sort of drink for them for the time we were there. My dad did the golf excursion and it was a nightmare. There half hour drive back from the course took over two hours and we were about an hour late leaving waiting for them. A disney worker did not go with them and they were in a van with a man who barely spoke english. The golf course over charged them for club rentals even though they quoted it at one price which was the same price that disney said it would be - it ended up being $20 more.

If anyone is sailing right now or on the next weeks cruise and are in the kids club - tell Allison one of the supervisors that "peanut" Ben says hi. She is one of the supervisors and is AMAZING. Her and my 2 year old became fast friends and spent a lot of time together. We miss her already! She will be on this week and next.

I'm guessing the Rosarito Ensenada bike race had a lot to do with that. Traffic got pretty ugly later in the day!

We ventured out of town to Las Canadas, but our cab driver was great and warned us we should head back early so he could get us around the worst of the traffic.

We had a great time in Ensenada! I agree that the DCL offered excursions there seemed pretty blah though.

So is it me or is this just like Saturday (ie, no class)?

Yeah, we could've swiped our 3D menus but I thought that would be so tacky.

Classless. I wonder if they have plates from Palo that will be showing up soon.

It was more movement then we've felt in the past, we were rolling back and forth in bed and I did hit a few hallway walls on the way back to our room. We're in the back, so maybe we were feeling it more but on our excursion everyone thought it was a lot.

We were definitely rolling. It was like sleeping in a automatic hammock. I thought one time I was going to roll out of the bed. We were midship.

Too bad about the excursions. We did it on our own but did not have our son with us. We just went into town for a little bit of adult beverages at Hussongs and then to the fish market for fresh fish tacos... This was definitely not a spot on the approved tour area - but we had been there before years ago with a "local".

It was a fabulous cruise - I have never been so relaxed on a cruise. Even with us taking our time doing things we still had time to kill! Even on the last morning... we were waiting for breakfast and loitering before leaving and our dining room was still pretty busy.

Yeah, Ensenada traffic was something else. We went on the Guadalupe Valley wine tasting trip and had a great time but we were 1 1/2 hours late getting back because of the congestion. The bicycle race went right down the 1 highway and had half of it closed. That just meant we had more time to nap on the way back and a fantastic view of the port from atop a hill off the regular route when we were winding our way around the road closures. The wineries we went to were great, very friendly, great food, generous pours.

My dad rode that race several times in years past and it does draw a huge amount of people into the city and increase crowds everywhere. I enjoyed seeing it since I never went with him when he did it.

Whale sightings... YES. Captain even made an announcement.

We took the Muir Woods Tour. I liked it. The smell was wonderful. It was hazy and we had a few light sprinkles. Just made you feel like you were in a movie or something LOL
There is a gift shop and they also sell snacks, coffee, hot chocolate, water, juice. Didn't see any soda items.

The bus parking lot was being worked on, so we had to walk a little farther to get in. There were two buses. One big one, and one smaller shuttle. The main walking trails are all decking. Easy to walk on and would be easy for scooters, wheelchairs and walkers.

They let you out and give you a time to be back at the entrance. I enjoyed it.

I'm going to do a review soon. I'm resting today :)
I posted a "live from..." on another board.

Wow, what some people will do for a buck. :confused3

If I sit real still ..... I can feel myself swaying.........I want to go again!

My kids just took the bus out front......for $3 round trip.........to the town and walked around.. grands and I stayed on ship...boys went to their clubs and girls and I sat up by the pool......they just wanted to play with their lego people..:rotfl2: worked for me I love people watching, the kids dancing on stage....and everyone having a great time.........

What I don't understand is people not picking up after themselves.......eat and just leave a mess.........now if you are a parent with little kids in tow that is different........but just to leave your mess :confused3 Guess I'm old school... it doens't hurt to pick up your own mess. :dance3:
