Hi all,

I was going to buy tickets through USAir to fly down to MCO Thanksgiving day and return 12/1. I was wondering if I should wait until Southwest releases their flights for November. I don't think I want to fly Southwest because I have kids and don't want to have to worry about the unassigned seating. But I was thinking maybe USAir will try to compete and lower their prices for first few days that Southwest will have those dates available. What do you all think??

If PHL is any indicator, USAirways will certainly match the SW prices. In all of the markets they share, that has occurred here in Philly. They really don’t have much choice – most folks will buy on price alone (and I don’t blame them!) In the two markets that matter most to me – to Orlando and to Pittsburgh, prices are the same. The only plus USAirways has is that they have more flights; SW books very fast!

This is the first year SW has flown out of PIT so I wasn't sure if USAir would react to SW prices. I'm glad to get advice from someone who has watched both airlines in the past. Thanks for the response. I think I'll wait it out a few days.

Don't forget about AirTran. We flew them last time out of Pittsburgh, got a great rate (49.00 each way) and it was on the same level as US Airways.
