We are planning a trip to WDW in October and have heard that POTC may be closed for an extended rehab. Has this been confirmed or is it just a rumour? HOw much notice is ususally given when an attraction is closed for an extended rehab?

At the moment, this is still a rumor. I'm not sure how long before re-hab WDW advises the public - but I'd guess not more than a couple of months.

POTC will be open in October due to the 18 month Happy Celebration on Earth. Also because Pirates is such a popular ride during Mickey's Not So Scary, it would be foolish to have the one down for a long period of time.

I hope it stay.. I love pirates..Yo ho pirate:

Is it open at the present time? Or is closed for rehab? I would not be surprised. Every couple of years we are in WDW. Everytime I go it is closed for rehab and we are going in July. It has been arunning joke in our house that it will be closed when we get there.

I don't think you can logically connect one with the other. Rehabs are a fact of life at a park that operates 365/yr. It's not as if WDW is going to put all rehabs on hold for the next year-and-a-half.

Also because Pirates is such a popular ride during Mickey's Not So Scary, it would be foolish to have the one down for a long period of time.

It would be more foolish to neglect an attraction in need of repair. IASW was closed for nearly a year to virtually rebuild the attraction from the ground up. The results are stunning.

The rumors that have been circulating indicate that the rehab would begin Fall '05 so that the ride is returned to pristine condition to coincide with the premier of the new POTC movie in Summer '06. There's never a great time for any long rehab, but they have to be done.

I think it would be a very interesting concept if Disney were to close the ride for it's rehab (sooner or later whenever that may be) but kept the boats running, with the house lights on, just for a peek, in order to see the work in progress.
It would never come to be, true enough, but it would be rather interesting to experience..............
