I have to agree with @Shanti
I've toured the Laura Plantation where the Brer Rabbit stories originated. They were written/told by an African-American slave on the plantation and originally recorded/written utilizing his vocabulary/dialect/vernacular.

If it is racist, he is being racist to his own people/family/friends.

But the murder portrayed in Haunted Mansion is not over your line?

No, because as I explained in a previous post, the actual murder isn't shown...it's more "alluded" to. I'm not adverse to a scary storyline....as I *tried* to explain earlier (apparently not so well, lol) it's more of the jolt of reality that I don't like. Others disagree.

Laura is fairly close to me. :)

I actually love SotS. I think it's a beautiful story.

This isn't about Haunted Mansion. It's not about Jungle Cruise. Can you explain why a scene that shows human beings being led into sexual slavery is something that should be applauded & kept for all time - without bringing up ANY other attraction, and focusing ONLY on the scene in question?

Because it doesn't show that. I don't recall any sexual slavery in that scene at all. Did I miss something?

I can see both sides to this and half of me is sad to see "we wants the redhead" and other phrases go but OMG yay lady pirates! Yes, there's always been an auction of women in the Pirates ride but is that really something that needs to be perpetuated because of nostalgia or tradition? Also, it's about time pirate women were represented in the ride! Walt said that Disneyland will never be completed and will continue to grow. To me, it looks like it's continuing to grow with this change.

Yes Chuck. You missed something. :)
Please explain what I missed. Some nice ladies who had no other options were being given a chance at a life of adventure and excitement. That's how I see it.

I liken them Aesop's fables and what's not. THEy had a reason and message. It was about teaching values.
I envy where you live. Just returned from a trip to LA. This time we focused more on the north and south portions of the state.

The point has been made repeatedly, but how do you get to decide that one is bad enough for erasure, but not anything else the loonies deem offensive? Why do you get to the draw the line?

Here's an easier line to draw: it's a historic ride. Sometimes history doesn't comport with today's cultural norms. Consider it a teachable moment, but don't sanitize it.

And yes, there are absolutely parts of the Jungle Cruise and Small World that would be deemed racist by the racism authoritians today's world, and they're coming for those rides, too, I promise you.

If that is how you parse a scene depicting chained women, one of whom is crying, under a sign proclaiming AUCTION: TAKE A WENCH FOR A BRIDE, I feel sorry for all women who cross your path & I hope to never be one of them.
