Pirate night is lame now

After reading this post I was nervous for my dream cruise this past week. However I am happy to report that everything was at its normal time as usual on the 9/3 sailing. The mickey pirate show was around 7:45 and the adult show was around 10:15 followed by fireworks. The adult pirate show theme was changed from last year. This was a welcome surprise as it was much better compared to the old show.

I urge those of you that have just returned from your Fantasy cruises to write to Disney. This doubling of shows, changing to lame pirate shows, not having movies at night, and doing away with the pirate buffet aren't going to end if people don't complain. There is absolutely no reason for doing away with the Funnel Vision movies at night. If you are going to double up on shows, then we need somewhere else to go and the movies up top are a perfect solution without costing Disney anything. They are going to continue to take away things from the cruise and charge more and more until we stand up and tell them that we aren't going to accept it. I sail the first week of October and have already sent an email about my frustrations so they will hopefully change things by my cruise.

I would just move up the dinner times a bit for both seatings on pirate night - 5pm for early, and 7:30 for late,

My first response was "ugh." But then I thought maybe it would turn the ship to Main and EARLY seating. 7:30 actually sounds like a pretty good time to me. It doesn't address the single show time that they've been doing on night 2 of the shows. (That is still a bad idea and shortchanges the other acts.)

We were also on the August 11th, Pirate night wasn't great. We ate in Cabanas that night, which worked out better for us. I'm actually getting so sick of Pirate Night in general anyway. We have done 6 cruises, so it's getting redundant.

Could you please tell us what they had in Cabanas this night? Was it the regular pirate menu, or was there more things added to it?

There was no pirate menu, just their regular menu (I don't like the pirate menu). The servers were dressed in their pirate attire. I LOVE the wedge salad there, so yummy!

This was on the Fantasy a few years ago. Even then it was "too many bodies"

I will say that when we were on last August that there probably as many people, but everyone was seated through about 2/3 of the way back. People off the main pool deck even had chairs. It was crowded but everyone had a good view and it seemed more in control than I remember in the past. I’m sorry to hear it’s all changed. Very disappointing.

We got off our first cruise.. Dream. I am one not to watch the shows at WDW.. etc.. but I found the show at 10 was very good! Only bad thing was the pirate buffett was right up our alley... we love taco bars.. but we were stuffed from our second seating dining.. so I just took pictures of the fruit art.. next time we skip dinner and wait for that pirate buffet.

Have you personally experienced any of these changes yet? A bit premature to complain about something without first hand knowledge. There are probably just as many people who will like and prefer the "new" way as the old.

I've read trip reports from people who thought they would hate the double shows but then when they actually sailed and experienced it, they liked it.

Just got off the Fantasy and mickey pirate show was like at 5 and the fireworks around 8. It was great. We had main seating and servers knew we had to be out so dinner moved nicely. Would not be an issue for others getting to second seating. There was a movie showing that night I believe so not a big show or anything to rush to. I honestly loved this change as my kiddo never makes it till 10 so I wont he complaining. As for the buffet I dont even know but I gained 7 lbs on the cruise so food is of abundance.

Only repeat show for our week was Aladdin. Felt like we had options to do other things which I liked. In fact the only thing I did not like was the absense of lids and straws on pool deck. The first cup with the 3 year old lasted a whole minute before some kid knocked into her and the drink was on the floor. Serving staff at dinner wised up and gave lids ands straws after the second night at our table which had 4 kiddos lol.

1st time cruiser...it is wrong that i was most excited to see the Elton John/ Bill Joel tribute on that screen shot :smooth:

Magic Dec ‘17 (5n repo) had a “less exciting than my previous cruises” pirates night also. No ghostly dancers in the crowd and no pirates night buffet. We were told something about it getting dark so close to dinner time also. I considered it cost cutting

Over the years, I have begun disliking the pirate night more and more. When we were on in July, a pirate came out and interacted with guests and the crew made up a rhymed song around the guest answers. It was so lame and barely understandable. It used to be a great dance party for the young and older people with dance songs and a few pirate games shown on the big screen--or pirate trivia. The late night snacks were good, and tacos were cool and a nice change. I like the little party for the younger crowd so they can have fun yet the older ones get the fireworks. I dislike the selling of the cups at dinner...it seems uncomfortable for the servers.

What kind of cups? They didn't offer anything on our cruise, but the whole thing was pretty abbreviated.

We were on the Fantasy 9/22-9/29 and the pirate show was awful. The earlier Mickey one was the same as usual and still cute. The later one was terrible. First, the navigator stated it started at 10:15. We got to the deck at about 10:05 and it was already packed and had already started. They make everybody sit in certain areas on deck 11 and deck 12 was packed about 5 people or more deep all the way around. We ended up behind the Mickey hand slide.

The 1st part of the show to me seemed like a Pirate hoe-down. It was just plain weird. Then when they switched to the Dead Men Tell no Tales stuff, it was just messy. I have actually seen the movie several times and like it, but everything going on was so messy and unintelligible, if I hadn't seen the movie, I really wouldn't have had a clue. I still really didn't. The fireworks were pretty good, but we had a pretty terrible spot to see them.

They did have the buffet after. We didn't go to it, but it was in the navigator.

I'm not sure I'll attend again on the Dream or Fantasy.

Can anyone who’s recently been on the fantasy give me an update on pirate night. First time Disney cruiser here going in February. Just called Disney cruise line to request a dining rotation and the cast member on the phone happened to state that there would be no pirate menu for pirate night. Can someone just fill me on what to expect on pirate night now? Much appreciated!

Just off the 11/10/18 western. The stage show was at 7:30 PM, the pirate dance party was at 8:00 PM. and the fireworks were at 10:15 PM. The pirates buffet at cabanas was from 10:30 to 11:15 PM. I think this is one of the nights when I did not attend dinner so I can't comment on the dinner menu.
