We are 2 adults (we don't have any kids). Other than the menu and the dessert buffett...what is so great about Pirate Night? If we choose to do Palo or something else that night, what will we miss out on??

GO TO PALO!!!

I bet it is a great night to go!

You will miss seeing Mickey SLide down the the middle of the ship.

Lots of Fun kids songs and silly dancing....LOUD.

ANd some great fireworks.

After being at the Pirate night twice i can say if i had a choce i would definitley choose PALO!

Pirate Night is all that in that if nothing else you do not want to miss the FIREWORKS at sea :thumbsup2
pixiedust: Disiney is the only cruise line allowed to have them. Not to be missed!

When DH and I sail alone without the 4 kids, we like to go to Palos on Pirate Night sometimes.
We do not usually take part in all the other stuff because we have been on enough DCL cruises to not miss seeing the Pirate Show or buffett.
If it is your first time though, I would say get dressed up and enjoy it all. There is no other place besides Disney that you do not have to "grow up".
At least while you are on the ship or in DL & DW -LOL
Endulge you inner child ::yes::

And by getting dressed up...my Pirate Night outfit consists of a DCL Pirate shirt, black pants and pirate Mickey ears. It does not have to be a "costume".

I got mine at DW but they sell them on the ship as well.
They also have Pirate Mickey and Goofy Ears with the red stripe pirate bandana like my DD has on.
I also got the shirt on the ship 2 years ago but I have not see it since. It is has the Swarovski Crystals for the ship "wave logo" and skull w/ cross bones.
It is so cool.
Lots of Pirate stuff (costumes, hats, ears, t-shirts,...) in both shops on the ship:thumbsup2

Great - thanks. We are taking our daughters in August for a Land/Sea Celebration for their graduation. We have been talking about getting dressed up for Pirate Night - not sure DH will but the three of us will!

But I could still see the fireworks if I go to Palo right?? Anyone know what time the fireworks are usually done? We like to eat early so I would get the earliest Palo reservation possible.

We don't have kids either but we enjoyed watching the Pirate Party from deck 10. The fireworks were good but I still don't get all the hype about seeing fireworks in the middle of the sea (don't hate me for saying that!!)
If I were you, I'd go to Palo!

As with everything, the Pirate Night Experience is very subjective. That being said, we've gone to 4 of the parties and looking forward to a 5th. My kids and I do dress up, we enjoy the theming in the dining rooms and we get a kick out of the party. The cruise staff does a great job. Plus, we think it's cool to be at a Pirates party on a ship in the Caribean. The fire works are cool, not what they do in the parks, but pretty impressive for a ship at sea. I also make sure I get a smoked turkey leg!

I do not think they are visable from "inside" Palo's. You would need to go outside of Palo's on deck. Not sure though.

True they are NOT like the fireworks at DW but... I always get a chuckle when I see the other cruise ship's lights in the area and know they are watching our fireworks-LOL
No where else can you see any fireworks while at sea. Disney exclusive :thumbsup2

pirate: DH and I will also watch the Pirate Party from above when the kids are not there. It is so cool to see everyone having a great time.

DH and I are also going on the cruise by ourselves and we're excited about Pirate Night. We went on a 4-night cruise before and we didn't even go to the Pirate party after dinner and now I regret it. I feel like I didn't do everything there was to offer. I didn't even watch the fireworks!! This time we're going on a 7-night and we're going all out. We're wearing costumes and everything. I warned DH that we might be the only ones wearing costumes but we're okay with it. I think it'll be worth it for the photos we get!!! Where else can you have this much fun?!

Either way, you should go to Palo too. That was a great experience as well!

"Pirate Night" involves several different things.

1) Dinner: Pirate themed dinner; staff is dressed up; fun limbo/conga line; special pirate menu.

2) Characters: The character are out for pictures dressed in pirate attire. There is also a Jack Sparrow photo opportunity.

3) Pirates in the Caribbean Deck Party: They do a great job with this and it is a very "Disney" experience. It is a much more involved version of the "sail away party" complete with a “Disney” show. If you like Magic Kingdom things like "Wishes" or the shows in front of the castle, you would very much like this. It was a highlight of our trip.

4) Dessert Buffet.

Basically, you can participate in some, all, or none of the Pirate Night events. I think it would be easy to go to Palo and still catch the "Pirates in the Caribbean" deck party. I also would say that the events -like everything else on the cruise- are fun for both kids and adults.

On our last cruise we went to Palo instead of Pirate Night. We switched with a DISer who accidentally made her Palo reservation for Pirate Night.

On my upcoming cruise, I haven't decided what I'm going to do. I'm traveling with a friend this time, and she's never been on a Disney Cruise. She doesn't like loud things, however, and she isn't into watching other peoples' kids having fun, so we may end up being two "grandmotherly types" having dinner at Palo on that night!

We didn't eat at Palo's, nor did we chose the Pirate Party. We regretted not chosing the Pirate Dinner, even though we had no children. It was fun and to see the expression on children's faces, that itself was pure joy. We got enjoyment from this.

We had a strictly adult cruise, but that one night was worth a million, and unforgetable experience. I'm going back with my friend and making sure we attend the Pirate Party...who knows we may even dress up for the event.

Disney is a magical experience - you're forever young! :cool2: :goodvibes

On our first cruise, we went to Palo on Pirate night (mainly because we didn't know better). We were too full to enjoy the night-time buffet, even though we would have liked the turkey legs and all. We saw the bandannas and all and kind of felt like we missed out. So, this time we are definitely going to enjoy Pirate night completely!

I think it depends on what you enjoy the most and which is more important to you. We LOVED Palo, but do not want to sacrifice the pirate festivities for it this time around.

The show starts with the CMs around 9:45 and the characters start showing up about 10:00. The fireworks are approximately 10:30. DS loves the fireworks on the ship because for whatever reason they are not loud like on land. Maybe that has to do with there not being anything for the sound waves to bounce off of at sea???
