We did fly into Orlando and the pins were in our checked bags.
As long as the pin has Disney C (the copyright symbol) you can trade it.

1. How do you get started without spending tons of money? It seems like if you liked a pin well enough you would want to have two so you wouldn't have to trade yours.
2. When we were at WDW in May I saw a little boy trade the boring Amex pin with a cast member for a regular Disney pin. Is this common practice? I think I can dig up our two Amex pins for my kids.
