Great review Brenda! I've read so many glowing reviews of Il Mulino and it is definitely going to have to go on our list to try on a future trip.

Thanks for reading, Heather - it was a terrific meal!

I double dog dare you to got to BK and order a Big Mac and a Frosty.

I didn't ... I don't actually like Burger King and have given up all fast food until our Vegas trip in May in a desperate attempt to lose the zip code the US post office recently assigned to my butt. :rotfl2:

My thoughts, exactly. :lmao:

Great review, and agree with you about oversauced pasta - I prefer a good, strong noodle!

Thanks for reading - glad you liked it!

Looks like we have another restaurant to try! Thanks for the review, Brenda!

Thanks for reading Elin - glad you enjoyed it. We plan ot visiting Il Mulino again this fall - that's how good we thought it was.

I had a full response last night, and then the Dis signed me out again :headache:

TDC NALA - thanks for the info about TiW!

B- great review! I do love eggplant caponata, but it's not really pretty to look at  Jay's lobster risotto looked really YUMMY! Gotta love on the house limoncello shots :dance3:

I really think we may put this on our list for June. Haven't been all that thrilled with a lot of the Disney restaurants lately, so maybe if we all start eating at the non-Disney restaurants...

Hi Chelle - thanks for reading! We've had a lot of success at restaurants that aren't run by Disney or that don't accept the Dining Plan. Bistro Paris, Bluezoo, Il Mulino, Wolfgang Puck's sushi bar & his formal dining room ... all great food and service!

We LOVE carpaccio- it is by far my hubby's favorite thing, and fortunately for us, they serve it all over the place here in the NY tri-state area. But you are making me think we might want to try il Mulino again....we had been a few years back and were not that impressed (I think I remember the food being waaaaaay over-salted). Now I'm wondering if DH & I will eat at any restaurants on our September trip that AREN'T at the Swalphin! So, so excited they are all accepting TIW...a lot easier to justify going. :thumbsup2

Are you going to write about California? Are you already?

Hey there - thanks for reading! Mmmmm, an excess of carpaccio ... life is full of thinly sliced beefy goodness in your world! Il Mulino is definitely worth another try, especially with the TWiT card. As for CA ... I will be posting some pictures one of these days but I don't know that I will be writing very much. Keep an eye on the Bendy thread. :thumbsup2

Augustus Gloop, yep looks blah to me too!

Chelsi I have a great recipe from Food & Wine for dark chocolate vanilla carmels with sea salt. They came out amazing and the recipe makes a lot of them. If you or anyone is interested I'll share.

Some people like Gloop and some people don't. I also don't like hash or mish-mash in case anyone is keeping score. The recipe sounds great Deb - if you could post it on the Bendy thread when you have time that would be great. I'd say post it here but the last time we did that the thread got shut down and I'd like to keep this one going until I'm finished. :goodvibes

That sounds amazing! I would love it if ou have the time! Thank you!

Ditto!

Loved the review!!! And the cheese...even though it's just kind of piled on there....piles of cheese are a great thing! Everything looked good, nice that you can get a half-entree so there's room for dessert and drink. More places should do that. Glad you reminded us to come find this review!

Thanks for reading Jamie! The cheese was great even if the presentation was lacking. Can't go wrong with tasty parmigiano!

I wish my upcoming trip was longer so I could fit in a meal at Il Mulino! After yours and Nicki's reviews, I really want to try it out!

I've been on a quest for decent Italian food - which is super hard to come across once you've been to Italy.

At the kind of prices they charge, the presentation with that Parmigiana was inexcusable!

You will just have to plan another trip to fit it in! We were very pleased with dinner ... haven't had the truly authentic from the mother-country food like you, but we have some great places here in Stinktown and Il Mulino definitely stands up to them. And yeah, that presentation was lame but the cheese was still good! Thanks for stopping by to take a read!

So glad you liked Il Mulino.:)
We can't wait to eat there again on our next trip.
YUM!;)

Thanks for reading! We really thought it was one of the best meals of our trip and are looking forward to dining there again this fall. Mmmmmm, tasty food and booze!

Hope you had a good vaca! I'm heading to S/D in a couple of weeks for a conference. Unfortunately, work won't pay more than a pittance for my meals but I'm going to see if I can partake in some of these restaurants. I eat like a bird so having soup and an appetizer usually does me in anyway and that would keep me in budget. Of course, I will also be buying some meals out of pocket (Le Cellier, here I come!)!

We had a great vacation, thanks for asking! Didn't want to come home ... this time last week we were coming back to SD from an afternoon of winery tours. YUM!!!

This is caponata. I believe it's actually Italian for gloop. It's a mix of roasted eggplant and other vegetable, usually depending on what's locally available. Lots of olive oil and often vinegar. Waiter, I'll have the gloop please.

It's the "undisputed king of all cheeses." Serve it to me on a dirty napkin and I'll beg for more.

Does perfectly cooked mean soft and velvety or al dente, which our local places seem to think means "underdone?"

Looks rustic and tasty presented that way. The only limoncello I ever had tasted like cough medicine. That's my usual opinion of mojitos, too. Something tells me this was a notch above Robitussin.

Hey there! You can have the gloop and I will ask for more kingly cheese ... I could eat parmigiano until I turn into a wheel of it! As for the risotto, it was soft and tender - we don't like al dente too much. And this limoncello was amazing - really tasty!

Well, I definitely didn't think it was my kind of restaurant (no burgers?) but your review has me thinking that maybe one day we might try it :thumbsup2

The herb-y bread looked really good and so did your pasta!

Thanks for sharing your great dining experience with us :goodvibes Entertaining as always B!

Hi Cass - thanks for stopping by! There are lot of options on the menu at Il Mulino so I think that would be good for you guys should you decide to dine there some time. We really enjoyed it and were very pleasantly surprised.

Have a hug ... haven't seen you much lately.:hug:

We tried Il Mulino for the 1st time in December... went on our 1st night and it was amazing! :cloud9: I had the mushroom risotto (I know you don't like mushrooms, but this was excellent!) and everything was so good I had to make another ADR for another night in the trip. Everyone enjoyed their meals & wanted to go back... the second night we ate there was totally different. It was good, but not great. :confused3 Loved the complimentary after dinner drink both times & even had a Lemon Drop martini (Limoncello martini) each night, knowing that the Limoncello was served at the end of the meal. Sooo.... we are 50/50 on Il Mulino. We are going to go back in May, so the verdict is still out. ;) I'm glad you had a great meal there! :goodvibes

I just posted it on the Friendies thread!

Thanks Deb!

Hi Michelle! Your experience is exactly what we're hoping to avoid. I will keep my fingers crossed for both of us! And I love love love lemondrop martinis - YUM!

Monday, October 19th - Percolations and Boozie Libations Available for All Landlubbers at the Crew's Cup Lounge!

While we were having dinner at Il Mulino Chelsi & Jason sent us a text message asking what we planned to do later that evening. Jay and I looked at each other for a moment and shrugged ... usually once we're done stuffing our faces we walk back to our room and then fall into a food coma. This idea of going out later, especially in the absence of Pleasure Island, was a novel one. Since the weather was still cool and windy we replied that we'd love to meet them over at the Crew's Cup Lounge for some boozie coffee around 10PM.

The Crew's Cup Lounge is located right next door to the Yachtsman Steakhouse in ... you guessed it ... The Yacht Club Resort. It was a short but very cold and windy walk there from the Swan and we were both very happy to duck inside the resort and poke around for the lounge, which we found in short order.

This time the signs are right!
353.jpg

The Crew's Cup and the Yachtsman are actually internally connected by a small corridor that leads directly from the bar, past the meat aging room, right to the podium where guests check in for their dinner reservations. We found ourselves in a good-sized, wood paneled room - there was a small bar area, cozy booths lining one wall, and tables and comfy seating areas scattered around the rest of the lounge. It definitely struck me as a man's lounge, especially with all that wood and the unobstructed view directly into the Yachtsman's beef aging closet. However, it was also a very comfortable place to kick back with a drink and we found ourselves here on more than one evening during the remainder of our trip. Service was helpful and prompt and the drinks were top notch!

Take a peek into the lounge...

Jay and I decided to order alkie-holic coffee while we waited for our friends to join us; he selected Irish Coffee and I opted for Keoke Coffee, which I first tried a few years ago at Jiko. For those of you wondering, my Keoke Coffee included Kahlua, Creme de Cacao, and Brandy ... it's wonderful!

Unfortunately for us, Chelsi & Jason were stuck on a ride loop in the Magic Kingdom and by the time they exited the Haunted Mansion and checked their messages it was too late to meet up. We didn't know this so I was wandering around the lounge making CMs nervous with my picture taking and giggling.

I watched one of the Yachtsman's kitchen staff play around with some of the meat trays in the aging room and he waved to me before he left. I was happy to see him leave so that I could take a picture of the meat hanging in the room. The slabs of beef reminded Jay and me of Jar Jar Binks ... if he'd ever been skinned and disemboweled.

Wishful thinking on our parts?

Perhaps.

You be the judge!

Jar Jar Binks ... annoying as ever!

Jar Jar on a meathook ... tasty beyond belief!

If that wasn't bad enough, I really started giving the CMs cause for concern when I noticed a painting hanging on the wall behind the Yachtsman's hostess podium and proceeded to have a giggle fit right there in the walkway between the bar and the restaurant. I was considerate enough, however, to wait for the hostess to walk away for a moment before I took a picture of the painting.

Once again it all comes back to the Simpsons ... honestly, one of these days Jay and I need to find some creativity of our own and stop mooching off the cartoons. Anyhoo, there was an episode where Lisa decided to become a vegetarian and in repsonse to the "trouble" she was causing in school she and her classmates had to watch an educational film prepared by the Meat Council titled “Meat and You.” The film was narrated by Troy McClure who you may remember from such other educational films as “Two Minus Three Equals Negative Fun” and “Firecrackers: The Silent Killer.” :rotfl2:

In essence the film is a "documentary" about how meat is processed and packaged for human consumption. Troy is joined in the film by a young boy named Jimmy, to whom he explains the food chain and then leads on a tour of cattle stockyards and a killing floor. When they emerge from the meat processing plant the young boy is pale and obviously upset by what he’s seen, so he asks Troy if its wrong to eat beef and other animal meat products.

Troy McClure replies, “Don’t kid yourself Jimmy. If a cow ever got the chance he’d eat you and everyone you care about.”

The scene then pans to a picture of a cow remarkably similar to this one:

Watch out; he looks hungry!

:lmao::lmao::lmao::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Such silliness is how we pass much of our time together. :goodvibes

In a nutshell, the Crew's Cup Lounge is a hidden gem with a great environment, good service, tasty drinks, and a great painting of a big, fat, hungry steer. Pay them a visit some evening when you have a chance and I dare you to have your picture taken with the cow!

Loved the cow picture. "Does this pasture make me look fat?"
Sorry, I couldn't resist some steer humor. ;)

I sat in one of those cozy booths in December when I decided to have a Yachtsman-lite dinner there. Really enjoyed everything except the steak. :rotfl2: It was passable, but they were charging me exquisite steak prices.

I'd go there for drinks and the cheese plate. And the side dishes you can order from Yachtsman. And the incredible bread basket with roasted garlic! :cloud9:

The lounge does look cozy and I love the idea of a Yachtsman lite dinner! For sure I will never look at that picture the same way! :rotfl:

We discovered the Crew's Cup a few years ago and love the place! Now I need to go back and take a pic with the cow.:rotfl2:

You can get the ROLLS at the lounge??? I am SOOO going there in 2 months. Those onion rolls were one of my favorite things at YS- actually, they were THE favorite thing. Well...and the potatoes.

And WOW- does that cow looked PISSED!! :scared1: I guess that's what happens when you have to hang on a wall for years staring at all your friends hanging on meat hooks. :scared1: I think Troy was right- that cow would eat you if he got the chance. ::yes::

Too funny! :rotfl:

LOL!!!!!!!!!! That picture is hilarious..and it def. reminds me of that Simpsons episode..good times!
MMMM i could go for one of those alkie coffee beverages...oops its only 10 am..oh well, i could still go for one of those!

Spiked coffee would be great right now---I am sick of this SNOW!!! 5 weeks till Disney! Glad you and Jason enjoyed the lounge so much!

If you're ordering food, they probably will bring you a bread basket with those onion rolls. If they don't, maybe you should ask the server for the bread while giving one of those pleading pathetic looks that pets give when they're begging at the dinner table.

We love this place too, Brenda! Remember... you can order some of the Yachtsman Steakhouse menu from this lounge. Bob and I did this in October and didn't need a reservation!

I once was sent to Italy on a business trip. Of course the business became eating. At most meals, a bottle of Lemocello was served at the table after dinner. (Sad, I know!) My co-worker and I came close to fighting over the last glass on numerous occasions, much to the enjoyment of our Italian hosts. Ever since, I have been on a quest to find something that tasted as good - not like cough medicine. Those of you familiar with PA liquor laws will understand the difficulty. After trying the brands available, I finely found one. The best I have found in this backward state is the "Danny DeVito" brand. Embarrassing, but true. (It even has a scratch and smell lemon on the front.) :lmao:

I didn't ... I don't actually like Burger King and have given up all fast food until our Vegas trip in May in a desperate attempt to lose
the zip code the US post office recently assigned to my butt.
:rotfl2:

Heh! That's my line! :scared1: Here is my lose the zip code dance: :yay::yay::yay:

I so remember that episode and I laughed out loud when I saw that picture..hysterical! :lmao:

Loving your reviews!

One of the best episodes ever - glad you like liked this installment as well as the other reviews! Thanks for reading.

Loved the cow picture. "Does this pasture make me look fat?"

Definitely great for drinks .. and I would love to try the cheese plate the next time we're there - perhaps with a nice port. :thumbsup2

It's a great little place - try not to stare at the cow! :rotfl2:

I want to see that picture if you do, Kat!

We never saw anyone with the rolls but we were admittedly distracted by the cow.

LOL!!!!!!!!!! That picture is hilarious..and it def. reminds me of that Simpsons episode..good times!
MMMM i could go for one of those alkie coffee beverages...oops its only 10 am..oh well, i could still go for one of those!

We are just drinking boring old normal coffee tonight ... nothing spiked ... sigh. And since you know the episode you know why we had no choice but to take a picture of the picture! :lmao:

I think I may try Crew Cup's this fall.

I think you'll like it - it's relaxed and quiet but serves a mean drink with some tasty food.

Spiked coffee would be great right now---I am sick of this SNOW!!! 5 weeks till Disney! Glad you and Jason enjoyed the lounge so much!

Stop in at the Crew's Cup for some spiked coffee while you're there!

Too funny! We first had drinks there before our wedding dinner. Good time and decent wines by the glass.

They seemed to have a nice variety - maybe because they are the bar for the restaurant as well?

If you're ordering food, they probably will bring you a bread basket with those onion rolls. If they don't, maybe you should ask the server for the bread while giving one of those pleading pathetic looks that pets give when they're begging at the dinner table.

It couldn't hurt. ;)

We love this place too, Brenda! Remember... you can order some of the Yachtsman Steakhouse menu from this lounge. Bob and I did this in October and didn't need a reservation!

We suggested it in the first place because you had such good things to say about it on your trip and you were so right! We're looking forward to going back in October - it was a great place to unwind.

Heh! That's my line! :scared1: Here is my lose the zip code dance: :yay::yay:

I stole the idea from Homer Simpson and my maternal grandmother. :lmao:

Hey! I'm not proud! I'm willing to do whatever it takes! :dogdance: :rotfl:

That's my girl!:rotfl2:

Go for it!
