Pictures of things No Longer Seen at WDW

Had to create an account to show off this beauty. Been traveling down from Charleston, SC since I was 2 weeks old in 1978. I really miss the old days "roughing it" at the Fort Wilderness Campgrounds and riding these gorgeous buses late at night around the loops.

Top 5 things I miss from WDW:
1. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire-Play It! Attraction. My whole family would spend all day there until we all made it in to the hot seat. That may be a reason they got rid of it since we weren't spending additional money in the parks. Still have all my pins, lanyards, and shirts. Never got the leather jacket or cruise trip :(

2. Off Kilter. Di$ney not renewing the contracts of these guys and Mo Rockin' is really hurting me and thousands of other loyal fans and keeping me away from the parks, to be honest. All my Disney money is going to the cruise lines now. Bring 'em back, 'ya bean counters!

3. No-expiration tickets. Aaargh!!! I could usually stretch a 10 day ticket 2-3 years. Another reason I'm on a WDW hiatus.

4. Image Works on the 2nd floor of Journey to Imagination. I can still feel the needles under the pin table 30 years later.

5. As you can probably tell from my screen name I miss Horizons. If you didn't vote to soar over the fields of Mesa Verde, you didn't travel with me.

I just realized that most of these were great attractions at EPCOT that are no more. That used to be my favorite park. If I had to choose now, I'd probably say Animal Kingdom.

Speaking of EPCOT, does anyone remember in the mid-90's a virtual reality game setup (probably in Innoventions) where they selected people out of the audience to put on the big VR headgear and "fly" a magic carpet around Agrabah from Aladdin while the audience looked on? First to find some kind of big jar, I think. It was an early time in that sort of tech and kind of a big deal at the time. I was picked as a teenager and actually won. Wish I had a picture of that.

Sorry for the long first post. Hope others remember this awesome bus and brings back good memories for them too.

Welcome to the forums!

Thanks for sharing the memories.

Was that bus the standard Disney transport back then?

Hope you enjoy the DISboards there is a lot here to enjoy and enlighten.

Yep. I did it a couple of times.

It was part of the change from Communicore to Innoventions.

It operated from July 94-Sept 95.

Approx. 45, 000 guests experienced the "in development" attraction before the test phase was completed.

Although Disney Quest has a similar Aladdin attraction, it was never fully developed into the stand alone attraction Disney had originally intended it to be.

A couple of photos exist in this summary of the data

Thanks! That was a great experience. Ground breaking technology at the time.

Most of the stuff in this thread I am too young to remember... but I remember Spectromagic!!! I loved that parade so much. My parents still have homevideo of it. I went back to WDW last year after a very long hiatus and was heartbroken to find out it was replaced with a new parade. Still watch the new one, but it wasn't nearly the same. I also remember the Backlot Tour. My dad tricked me to go on it... twice!

I don't have a photo, but does anybody remember the trees in front of the Contemporary Resort? They used to be metculously trimmed and shaped into truncated cones, like an upside-down Dixie cup. Very Jetsons. Now they have a natural shape.

I miss Spectromagic too. I can't believe it was left outside and destroyed by weather (that's what I read somewhere). Such a sad, sad shame. I loved Chernabog - he was absolutely breathtaking

I remember that Aladdin game! My aunt got chosen to participate but soon realized she had motion sickness from it so I got to take her place. Very cool! Thanks for the memory!

Thanks for this! I hadn't noticed that they changed the paver pattern, too. So I guess the change occurred sometime before 2011.

When the kids were young, there weren't many choices for a family of 5 in one room. We chose the Poly, GF, and Beach Club. Then we wised up and bought DVC. The Contemporary is my least favorite resort, and I've never stayed there, but I always loved pulling into the monorail station.

From what I recall, you entered on the second floor, and then desceded into the main area with the bar in the center, and waited in one of the side rooms, each of which had a separate theme and audio-animatronic elements/show. Then eventually you were led into the library and the main show, which was one of several different skits - sort of a cross between Prairie Home Companion and SCTV, with a dash of Jungle Cruise thrown in for flavor. :)

The joy of the Adventurer's Club for us was just hanging out in the main room, drinking Kungaloosh and socializing with folks around us. There was a constant rotating cast of characters who came out and talked, told stories and interacted with the animatronic displays around the room. I can't remember the characters right now, but there was one gentleman in boots and a green belted jacket who sat with us for about 1/2 hour, making us part of the show.

The mask room was cool too. I think in all the times we went, we only went into the main library show once, and we went every trip, twice a year from when it opened until 1995. We had kids and took a long break from WDW, and when we returned, it was still open but closed soon after. We never took the kids there.

I don't have a good photo. But maybe this will come through...

You can't listen to Michael Iceberg and his Amazing Iceberg Machine concerts anymore in Tomorrowland Terrace/Starlight Cafe. Sunny Eclipse now occupies that space.

I remember talking to him after a show in a relatively empty Tomorrowland Cafe eons ago! Great pic and link!
