Pictures of things No Longer Seen at WDW

How long has that been in existence??? I swear I looked about a year ago and couldn't find anything!

I'm so amazed the great and mighty Disney hasn't ceased and desisted it yet -- it's been going since October 2013!

Miyuki and her awesome creations. :(

Oh my gosh!! Miyuki is an amazing artist. Stood with my 3 children and watched her make this candy. We could hardly believe our eyes. She was absolutely wonderful. I was so sad to here she retired. I believe I read that she was one of only a few people in the world that knew this medium. Hopefully it won't be a lost art. LOVE IT.....

The face of the paperboy on Spaceship Earth. They turned him around, and now, instead of facing ride vehicles as they go by, he faces a wall.... yes, there is an (empty) alley painted on the wall, but it's just odd.

This is the Best Thread I have ever seen on the dis! I have been here since 1998 or 1999. Thank you OP. I hink Im on page 5 or so but plan on finishing at work tomorrow.

Myprince, do you know why the boy faces hhe wall? I noticed when it first happened and I think there was talk on here when it did happen but does anyone know if there is a story or a reason behind it?

I dont know why Disney would do this.

Thanks.

Had to do one more 'cause I miss this ride so much..wish I could take my grandchildren on it...only reminders are tributes in Winnie the Pooh & The Little Mermaid View attachment 79614 View attachment 79616 View attachment 79617 View attachment 79614 View attachment 79616 View attachment 79617
This was my favorite ride as a child. I loved loved loved this ride. I too wish I could take my 3 children on it. I have showed them pictures and tried to explain it. I remember vividly, water always dripping inside the sub...haha.

It's supposed to look like the boy is facing down the street. But the backdrop has to be the worst-executed "trompe l'oeil" effect I've ever seen. At least since my grade 1 pageant. Plus, it's ridiculous that a newsboy would shout at and try to sell papers to an empty street.

If they can't figure out a way to execute the effect better then they should just turn around the paper boy so at least his face and the newspaper headline will distract you from the fake-looking backdrop.

N.B. one theory is that the face of the boy was accidentally damaged so they turned him around to spare themselves the bother of fixing him ...

They really have to do a good job to keep Spaceship Earth spiffy and impressive looking. Otherwise it'll end up as a joke ...

I love the Pleasure Island photos. I forgot how much fun it was to cruise those different clubs one right after the other, then have the big street celebration. The comedy club and beach club were definite favorites of mine. I remember liking the Adventurer's Club too, but honestly can't remember what we did in there or why I liked it!?

Thank you.

I look forward each day to what everyone has to contribute to the thread. I am glad so many have viewed everyone's contributions fondly.

Thanks again to everyone.

I don't have a lot to offer since our trips don't go far enough back...... but I'm looking.

Not sure what they called this coral character, but I haven't seen it since this trip in December 2004.

Walt Disney Studios presents The Ancient Ones.

The more I think about it, the more in love I am with a Lovecraft-inspired animated movie.

Bonfamille's at Disney's Port Orleans hotel closed August 5, 2000.

From what I recall, you entered on the second floor, and then desceded into the main area with the bar in the center, and waited in one of the side rooms, each of which had a separate theme and audio-animatronic elements/show. Then eventually you were led into the library and the main show, which was one of several different skits - sort of a cross between Prairie Home Companion and SCTV, with a dash of Jungle Cruise thrown in for flavor. :)

Thanks Mark!

I read the Adventurer's Club entry on wikipedia just now too, which helped me remember the experience even more. It would be neat if they could bring something like that back. I love improv and forgot how much of an improv element this club had. I definitely remember the improv at the Pleasure Island comedy club. It was always very funny!
