Pictures From Your Part of the World

Some I've taken around D/FW (some recent, some not so recent)

UNT Eagle
IMG_1593.jpg

MY DH went to UNT. He graduated with a BFA back in 1993. I made many trips form Azle to Denton in that time!

I didn't go to UNT, my wife did :) I bypassed college, my brain was formatted for unix out of the womb :rotfl2:

I made the drive from Arlington to Denton many times, as well as Dallas to Denton many times. Lived near campus for a while before settling in Lewisville.

Ugh! You are making me feel old. Our youngest was born in 1993.

;)

I got you beat by a year, my baby was born in 92.... Almost done with his first year of High School... and hopefully the older one will get done with college sometime this decade...

I lived in Arlington for a while and went to UTA. I lived right by the Ballpark, or whatever they are calling it this week.

I am at 20&360 in Grand Prairie now. We thought about Lewisville when DH worked in Farmers Branch, but decided we wanted to stay south.

Cue "It's a small world after all...."

I grew up in Arlington near I-20 and Cooper. I can remember when Arbrook ended at Cooper and The Parks Mall wasn't even there.

Well, we got another 6" of snow last night and some places got over 12" so we're now breaking records for April snowfall and we have a major Nor'easter coming Monday. :sad2: I'm starting to wonder if we're ever going to see spring!!:confused3

Nothing fancy but I took this one on my way into work this morning.

This photo is really just a closeup of a photo that Kyle (handicap18) posted early on in this thread, but I thought I would throw it in anyways. It was taken today when the sun was out. That was a GREAT 5 minutes! :lmao:

Since I am a local history buff, you have to listen to the info about it as well. Sorry.

Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge

  • Opened on Dec 29 1935
  • 2nd largest vertical lift bridge in the US
  • spans 544 ft across the Cape Cod Canal
  • Operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers (as is most of the Canal and it's boat traffic)
  • Used mainly for hauling trash by train from Cape Cod to the "mainland" plant which actually burned down the other day! Most passenger train traffic does not go from "mainland" to Cape Cod anymore. :sad1:

i'm with you, we had 3 ft last weekend, it just melted yesterday and they are calling for more this weekend:eek: :faint:

well i thought i lived in a boring part of the world...

nearest large body of h20: Lake Erie along with nearest giant smoke stacks, ( about 11 miles N since we are just out of the evacuation area should smoke stack blow up) said lake still has lots of ice cover hence the fog coming in

you can yawn now

uh... that's not a smoke stack. :) that's steam from the nuclear power plant - Betsie Davis or something like that. supposedly good fishing nearby (ever seen blinky from 'The Simpsons'?!)
'look - cloud machines', as i tell the kids. BTW i love going to Cedar Point - best rollercoaster park on the planet. but i havent been there in a few years. i want to take the boys there sometime !

one of the first times i was ever in 0hi0, someone told me 'for some real fun , take the freeway all the way around the city!'
well i'll be... i-270 goes all the way around Columbus - yeah...

Ohio isn't called the entertainment capital of the world for nothing:) :) ;)
that particular one is the Perry Power Plant..it's kind of creepy imo since it sort of dominates the skyline....the three headed fish in this area come from a couple miles west of the power plant where one of the worst toxic waste dumps in the state (if not the US) was for yrs( people who worked in the plant that produced it had no cartilage left in their noses when they retired, but of course it was perfectly safe:rolleyes: ) and of course the run off went into the river which went into the lake a mile or 2 away..btw there are now luxury apartment built on the site of that old factory:confused3

:rotfl2: Now, Now!! Don't read "anything" into that!! :rotfl2:

You ain't the only one girl!!

This bridge truly is amazing to see it lower for the train to cross while they hold back the boat traffic and then when the train passes they rise it again to allow the boat traffic to pass. When the current is moving swiftly this can prove to be a difficult task.

Andy, Do you remember when they used to run the dinner train? I believe it was from Hyannis
but I'm not sure. They stopped that years ago.

Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge

TrainBridge002.jpg

It's been a long time since I lived on the Cape (W. Yah-mouth to be exact), trying to recall that bridge...is it near The Christmas Tree Shoppe?!

Yeah, I remember the dinner train. They tried it again, I believe, a couple years ago. Not sure if it is still running or not. Stuff like that should be included in the tourist life. Keeps them off the roads for awhile!

PoohJen, this bridge is in Buzzards Bay on the west end of the Canal. The Sagamore Bridge is near the Christmas Tree Shop, on the east end.
