Pictures From Your Part of the World

Yes, I agree that is was great for tourists. They were probably
also looking for the tunnel along the ride as well. :rotfl2:

Yeah, I just point them towards rt 3 north/ Boston. There is a tunnel up there about 60 miles from here! ;)

What part of Mass are you from?

I live in the west part of town. We may have even bumped into
one another in town at some point. Hi Neighbor.

This photo is really just a closeup of a photo that Kyle (handicap18) posted early on in this thread, but I thought I would throw it in anyways. It was taken today when the sun was out. That was a GREAT 5 minutes! :lmao:

Since I am a local history buff, you have to listen to the info about it as well. Sorry.

Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge

  • Opened on Dec 29 1935
  • 2nd largest vertical lift bridge in the US
  • spans 544 ft across the Cape Cod Canal
  • Operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers (as is most of the Canal and it's boat traffic)
  • Used mainly for hauling trash by train from Cape Cod to the "mainland" plant which actually burned down the other day! Most passenger train traffic does not go from "mainland" to Cape Cod anymore. :sad1:

Nice pic Andy. I love taking photos of the canal area. If you haven't already, take a ride this summer on the Viking out of Onset. I worked on it for 2 summers in '90 & '91. Lots of great historical info in that area. Grover Cleveland (22nd & 24th President) had a summer house across from MMA, Franklin Rosevelt was aboard the first boat that "officially" went though the canal back in 1918 I think it was when the origianal opened before the Corps of Engineers took over. There are still 2 original parts of the first canal bridges, one in Bourne and 1 in Sagamore.

I have a whole photo album of pics that I took along the boat route to go along with the commentary along with tons of pics of ships that have gone though.

I love seeing pics of that area. :thumbsup2

I also wanted to ad something from my part as well. This is a
Cranberry Bog in my back yard. I took this picture last fall. They wet
pick this bog as you can see. It is Beautiful to see.

My town? If so, that is just too strange. We have people from England, Iceland, All around the US and 3 people from my town on this board? Wow, we are just the artsy ones aren't we? :cool1:

Ohio isn't called the entertainment capital of the world for nothing:) :) ;)
that particular one is the Perry Power Plant..it's kind of creepy imo since it sort of dominates the skyline....the three headed fish in this area come from a couple miles west of the power plant where one of the worst toxic waste dumps in the state (if not the US) was for yrs( people who worked in the plant that produced it had no cartilage left in their noses when they retired, but of course it was perfectly safe:rolleyes: ) and of course the run off went into the river which went into the lake a mile or 2 away..btw there are now luxury apartment built on the site of that old factory:confused3

Thanks for the warm fuzzies! (My husband works in a nuclear plant :scared1: )

Oh, thats what they're calling us now!!! HAHAHAHA :lmao:

But I moved out almost 12 years ago, so I guess I'm not so artsy anymore. :confused3

Ah, c'mon you can take the man out of Wareham, but you can't take the Wareham out of the man. I bet some women wish they could though.

no, no, the 3 headed fish were not due to the power plant but some factory, forget what they made now, some kind of chromium something or other maybe.

Chromium is nasty stuff. I can see it making blinky the 3 headed fish, but loss of nose stability? Thats a new one to me. Do you have any pictures of this? :)

3 headed fish or messed up noses? but which ever no, although for the noses, i could probably go to that area, knock on doors with my camera in hand and get some, i'll add that to list, right after my bridge and barn series;)
this is what is in one of the dumps but not sure if it is from the nose problem factory or the other one( the one had a big emerald green soup pond behind it right above the river, think that was the nose one since i used to know a few men( noses intact) who worked there yrs ago who told us about it and that is where the condos are now... the other one was closer to the lake and I think that is this one, both were closed already when i lived closer to them ( but the remains remained ;))http://www.ijc.org/php/publications/html/pubforum97/pubmeet2.html ( painesville township ohio person)

Good idea! :rotfl:

Bridges and barns make some great photos. Do you have any covered bridges in Ohio? Those make great photos. The only bridge I know of in Ohio (since I have never been there) is the bridge in Ashtabula Ohio where the massive train wreck was in Dec 1876. I don' tknow where that is but do you have any pics of that bridge by chance? Well, the original is in the river, but I figure they rebuilt it. Again, boring history. Gotta stop that... :coffee:

there are tons of covered bridges in fact a whole little covered bridge tour in my county and the next 2( i am close to Ashtabula county, the accident was probably in the city of Ashtabula about 40 mins away maybe, i'll have to look it up since even i am not that old:lmao: ) however husband and i went to look for the bridges,we see the signs constantly and couldn't find any?????we have even seen one crossing a highway bridge and looking down and couldn't figure out how to get to it. I'd also like to go to Cleveland as they have a bunch of different types of draw bridges over the Cuyahoga river( i forget something like 20 kinds or some crazy number but i think the best way would be on a boat tour and well that would be a bit nippy right now:lmao:

the other infamous Ohio related bridge is the Silver Bridge, if you saw the mothman chronicles movie( think that was the name) it was about that one..it collapsed right around Christmas in probably the late 60s( don't remember the exact yr but i remember when it happened) that is about 4-5 hrs south on the Ohio/ west Viriginia border. no wonder i hate driving over bridges:rotfl2:
Aw beautiful Ohio, land of bridge disasters , 3 headed fish and nose disorders, who wouldn't want to move here;)

Wow... you guys take some AMAZING photos.. Here are some of Sacramento Capitol and the American River. My pictures are nowhere near the quality of some of yours.. but I'm learning...

Hi

This isn't a good photo as it was taken with my phone but it's where I work in Cornwall, England - St Michael's Mount.

Here is one of Chicago the Saturday before the Super Bowl. Last night a bunch of the buildings spelled out "Chicago 2016" as Chicago is the USOC pic to bid for the Summer Olympics. It would be awesome as they are planning most things to take place along the lakefront.

Here is a couple that I took yesterday...

This one is from the top of Apple Pie Hill...here is a little history of it...I researched to find out why it was called Apple Pie Hill..Apple Pie Hill is one of the highest points in the Pine Barrens, at 209 feet above sea level. Located in Tabernacle Township, no one knows how Apple Pie Hill got its name, though there is speculation that its shape resembles an apple pie.

This is where I was at the top of when I took the first pic

We got lost while driving through the woods when we stumbled upon this...
