Photoshop Elements

Dumb question: Have you tried restarting your computer? It is usually the first thing I try when things that should work, don't.

Just yesterday I connected a card reader to my Mac to download a few shots I had taken on my new D300. The computer didn't see the card reader. Then I tried a direct camera connection. Nothing. So I restarted -- and everything worked fine.

Not to say this will solve the problem, but it certainly won't hurt.

I agree whole heartedly with this statement, even the IT department at the law firm I work for have a saying --- "Don't troubleshoot, reboot" :lmao:

Yep, unfortunately, I did try rebooting the PC.

Update: When I downloaded the plug-in again, then the problem went away.

So I received PE6 as a gift in October and have been using it for basic edits (and up until like yesterday, didn't even know I could do RAW editing). I just got the Missing Manual--so I'm hoping to get a little more creative with my editing from now on as I learn the ins and outs of the program, spending a little more time and effort than just saturation, sharpening, etc.

Can anyone recommend a good site that has actions that work with PE6 (preferably free or inexpensive) and also recommend some that they like? I have never used an "action" before--so this is going to be a whole new learning project for me...look for much more in the way of questions to come :rotfl:

Thanks!! :thumbsup2

http://www.ezactions.com

They have some fantastic actions - cheap (not free though) and they are very easy to install. I have a lot of the actions from this site.

you could also try www.hiddenelements.com I havent checked it out to well yet due to lack of time but I think there is at least one download there for actions that is free and a few that you have to pay for.

I am new to this too...Thanks for asking this question...I'm all ears.:listen:

what are actions?:confused3

In my own words (and I am by no means even an above average Photoshopper), actions are like neat effects in Photoshop that have been saved and you can buy or download for free to use on your photos (most times 1 click). Instead of taking the time trying to work it out on your own in Photoshop, the action is like the lazy man's way at getting cool effects without knowing an incredible amount or wanting to spend the time to do it on their own.

I'm sure there is a technical definition floating out on the web, but to me...it's basically just an effects shortcut.

Hope that helps!

It is like a pre recorded macro for processes.

I just bougt PS7, not even on my computer. I had no idea what actions are until I read this....now I'm really nervous!:scared1:

Hey everyone!

So I got this for Christmas and have never been more confused about a computer program in my life! I like to consider myself fairly saavy when it comes to computers but I'm definitely no pro. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing in there and the only booklet that it comes with is "Getting Started with..." which is about as useless as...well...let's not go there.

Where do I even start with learning this program? From what I understood prior to getting this program it wasn't a huge learning curve for the basics. Basically, the more you played with it the better you got. Well, let's just say that I've played plenty and I'm still as useless as...well...let's not go there again.

There has to be some sort of resource out there that I can rely on to get me rolling.

PLEASE HELP!!!

Get "The Missing Manual" by Barbara Brundate. It's between $30-$40 new, but I have seen a few copies on E-bay for less. I just got PE6 in October and got The Missing Manual for Christmas. It is probably about 500 pages thick and trust me, there is more information in there than anyone could possibly want. I picked it up last night to page through and unfortunately...put it right back down because my brain just wasn't in the mood to do any major thinking. :rotfl:

Good luck and I hope this helps - I agree, just getting the program started is extremely confusing, but I'm sure as with anything, it'll become second nature after a while (a very long while). :goodvibes

My hubbie just got the Missing Manual for me for Christmas. It starts off optimistic, assuming that one doesn't know how to double click! But picks up very quickly from there.

What is the best way to learn this program i'v had it for several months and still don't understand

Hey im interested in hearing a responce to this to lol . I just got element 7 for christmas and am lost. I have found a few courses at the local camera shops but there all full.

I bought The Missing Manual for Photoshop Elements 6 when I got it for Christmas last year. As a visual learner, this has not been the best way for me to learn, but I have been able to figure some things out.

AWESOME! I even got a gift card to a bookstore for Christmas too...it must be fate! Thanks for the great advice. Trying to google something on this program is brutal!

another vote for the missing manual element series.. it helps with the introductory stage and later as reference if you have a sieve brain like me...if they only made one for painter x( corel) maybe i could figure out how to actually get my tablet pen to work with that one and make a line since painter x makes elements look like baby toys:rotfl: :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :headache:
