Photoshop Elements

You are AWESOME!!! I can't thank you enough. Took me a minute to figure out what you were saying, but I think I can work with it now. Jeez, I can't tell you how frustrated I was!

Thank you so much!!

Ok... I thought I was good, but I'm still having a problem. I would really hate to resort to exercise to work through my frustration, but it may come to that!

So now I have the full picture that I'm trying to place the head in, and a "frame" layer with the head. I can't get JUST the head so that I can place it where I want it. I've got a whole white screen with the head. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks again.

Your problem is that the head and the white are the same layer. You need to erase the white part.

Select the Eraser Tool. Right click on the eraser tool and select "Magic Eraser".
Then, when you click on the white part, the whole white area should disappear.

Hope this helps! :)

It's telling me that it's a frame layer and must be simplified. I click ok to simplify, and then try again on the magic eraser, and nothing happens.

Thanks again. This huge 600 page book is zero help.

Ok, I found where to simplify the layer. Good grief!!! Can't thank you enough for your help.

Sorry it's so frustrating. When what should be a simple project takes more than 3 hours it's easy to start pulling the hair out. Hang in there! :)

i know how to do it with photo textures i get online but does anyone know how i can load my own photos to use as textures in the special effects/artwork panels? i figure i'd have to convert to jpg but can i just copy and paste to the folder the rest of the textures are in or do i have to do something different. i could just download to flicker i guess then download from there if there isn't an easier way (usually you go to app. data> adobe >elements >photo creation> special effects and put it there... if that helps but sometimes they won't load, i am guessing due to the type of photo the texture is) i am chicken to just try the copy/ paste and end up messing up my folder
thanks

I have recently received a mailshot from Amazon, offering Elements 7 for a substantial discount.

Does this mean Amazon is clearing its stocks ready for Elements 8?

Based on release dates of previous versions, when is Elements 8 likely to be released?

Andrew

Elements 7 was released on August 26, 2008. The copy of Elements 6.0 I have was released in September 2007. So you may see an upgrade this fall or you may not. I have not seen any rumors yet. Also when 7.0 came out I was offered an inexpensive upgrade but did not take it because I plan on buying lightroom in the near future.

Amazon could be clearing their stock, or they are just overstocked and with the economy down trying to move stock. I have seen Elements 7.0 at Wal-Mart for 79.99.

Hope this helps.

I plan on buying lightroom in the near future.

I am still using Elements 5 and have finally decided to upgrade. Should I buy Elements 7, Lightroom, or both.

I don't own an SLR because I had a fall a few years ago and ended up with a frozen shoulder. This means I cannot hold an SLR up high enough to look through the viewfinder. I am still waiting for the market to mature enough to provide a lightweight SLR with tilt/swivel display and good focus system that I can hold at waist level.

In the meantime I have a Canon G9 P&S (bought two weeks before G10 was announced!!!) which is light enough to use held at arms length in front of me. I chose this camera, because it has RAW mode. Unfortunately the RAW processing software provided with the camera isn't much better than the camera's own processing and I would like to try something better.

As best I can tell from the Adobe website, Lightroom is essntially a raw processing program, with an added filing system added, and not a replacement for Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Am I correct?

Andrew

My suggestion would be to download the trial versions of both PSE7 and Lightroom, and see which you like. I do not use Lightroom, but many people I know use both.

Can anyony please give me the pro and con of the program mentioned above? Is it easy to use (user friendly)? If not, which other do you recommend?

Thanks,

anyone ever gotten this error box when they try to start elements and know how to fix it? i tried repairing elements and uninstalling/ reinstalling , no dice. i can't open it from lightroom, my icon nor programs. it doesn't open the program at all, just the box comes up with the error. i have the vista patch installed windows vista 32

Have you tried knitting?

you poor poor girl.... hehehheheee

Nope, never seen that Jann but I do regularly get an "unable to access organizer" error whenever I try to save my pics and forget to un-check the box. :furious: Uninstalling and reinstalling did not help.

well it only makes sense that now that my camera and lenses are working the next step would be i shouldn't be able to process any of the photos they take :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

just in case anyone else runs into a similar problem, on the elements forum at adobe it say google chrome is messing up elements..course i don't have google chrome so that doesn't help me any but just in case it may help someone else

I am an elements user, and I find it quite easy to use. What are you trying to accomplish in editing software? For some PSE7 is too much program for others not enough. It all really depends on your needs and skills. Sorry my answer wasn't clearer, but it really depends on many factors.

I am a primary CS3 user on my mac. I have just gotten PE7 for my pc. Costco has a great deal on this and premiere elements right now.

The interface is very intuitive to me but I am used to photoshop! I think it depends on your overall computer knowledge level.

i have elements 5 and found it easier to use than other programs. usually you can download a free trial at adobe and see how you like it. you can also download corel's software( don't remember the exact name of the current program) from their site and compare the two. some like corel better so it's kind of what makes sense to you imo. neither are that hard to use but like everything else take some practice. i got Barbara Brundege's book The Missing Manual and it helped tremendously for elements. she also posts on the elements forum on adobe website.

the major benefit i see to elements vs corel is elements has more free plug ins ( ie textures, filters) available since some for photoshop cs can also be used on elements.

YEs Dear, mind posting the costco deal? for some reason my elements 5 is corrupt and i can't even get it to reinstall from the disk so i might be buying a new elements. daughter belongs to costco so i could encourage her to get it for me ;)
