Photographing Pets

Too cute! Two of our cats love to get up high!

Took a new one of George this morning, as I was worrying about him... I love when he lays like this... just so funny seeing a cat like that! Worries were put to ease when I spoke to a vet tech who is going to kitty sit for me when I run away later this week.

Too cute, EchoThree!

Denise, very nice picture, although it did cause me to get a lump in my throat. It reminds me of a picture of my Cody that I took when he was around that age.

Mousejunkie, how old is Elvis (love the name BTW)? When my kids saw your picture, they both went "Awww" at the same time, LOL.

Beautiful pets, everyone. Thanks for sharing.

Looking for helpful hints and tips. I saw so many wonderful pics of people pets. 95% of the time when I take pics of my dogs with dark eyes they turn out either white circles for there eyes. (Ghost dogs) or really red. How to you get so natural looking pics. TY

try to take a pic in the natural light without flash. Or use the Red Eye Reduction feature on your flash if you have one. Try not to get TOO close.

I like to get them in good natural light and get down to their level. After some time of me crawling on the floor they start to act naturally again and I get good photos.
Take lots!

Bouncing the flash can help if you aren't shooting in natural light. You can try angling an index card in front/under of your flash if you don't have a flash that you can angle. Sometimes that can help too. I think I read here sometime or other that shooting the flash through wax paper can help too.

Make sure it smiles. Thus the reason why I have no good photos of my cats. No smiles...

Our pet is a frog. I've never bothered to take a picture of him. He's shy and I respect that.

You too funny but I would still love to see a pic of you shy frog. If you take it while he/she is sleeping he/she will never know :)

LOL my dogs always smile. Cats that is another story. So good luck on that. I think a more dignified pose will work the best :)
