Nice!
Realy clear black area, no noise, that I can see in the photo.

I love the blur on chernabog. Gives it more depth.

the others are very crisp.
NIce job.

I wish I could take credit - taken at ISO100 - camera was new - hadn't explored the ISO option. Following day, looked for, and found, ISO menu (couple of clicks and 1 minute mini-manual reference - and, viola ISO 1600 - which accounts for the sharp, real-to-eye lighting of the rest of the Spectro pictures.

Great shots, ehagerty! I have some to share:

Too bad I cut off the "S"

EXCELLENT work, as usual; your shots are consistently among the very best on this board. Would you mind sharing with me the lenses you used for all these Mickey's World shots?

I'm torn between jumping on a Maxxum 7D and saving a few more shekels for a 20D!

- Specifically, EOS Rebel XT (350D) 8.2 mg, with 28-135 IS lense
- All Spectro pictures were handheld at ISO = 1600 (every other setting was automatic)

This is my first year (and first Disney vacation) for digital - still have much to learn about all the options, as well as maybe learn electronic photo editing.

Whatever camera TwoOldPoohs have, WOW, that looks like the one to get. What is 20D? Is that a model # for a different brand?

Thank you for the positive feedback on the composition...

20D is a Canon's more professional version of the XT. Many touted to be the same as XT with different body but I used to have both and they are markedly different. Faster and more accurate AF, better focusing in backlit situation, slightly lower noise in ISO 1600.

Excellent photos!! I have the exact same camera so maybe-just maybe I might be able to get some decent pictures this time! Handheld! even more amazing!

As a side note...Is Hagerty your last name? The reason I ask is, my last name is Hegarty and people ALWAYS spell it HAgErty istead of Hegarty.

I can symphathize - Hagerty IS my last name - and rarely spelled correctly. People usually spell it Hegarty or Haggerty. No one (in the family) knows whether it the spelling is original or an error. I interact fairly frequently with a software vendor based in Dublin, and they claim to have relative spelled Hagerty, even though it is not very common.

Good luck with your handheld ISO experiments next trip. We look forward to seeing the results.

Just happen to have a picture of St. Patrick's cathedral from Dublin for you

Dublin is like Florida - only 40 degrees cooler. Sun in the morning, clouds in the afternoon - shower around dinner - sun in the evening. Ocean winds and all...

Duplicate - was waiting for server, didn't know it would update both!

It is 6 months later, and I am just thinking about life - was very caught up in work until project completed in January.

Anyway, I wanted to pick up on your comments about the 20D. I can see that the body is available for $900. My questions:
1. Is it worth having both? Are there certain conditions under which you use one over the other?
2. I can see the value of having ISO 3200 from looking at TwoOldPoohs pictures.
3. I presume it will work with my IS 28-135 lens. Is that true?

So, do we get to see the pictures??

SpectroMagic has got to be the trickiest thing to get good photos of in WDW, outside of on-ride "dark ride" photos like PotC or HM.

I took a bunch, with lots of different settings, and got the best results with the exposure compensation turned up a little, to show some detail other than just the lights. (Sorry about the large images - the 700-pixel-wide ones just don't show any detail.)

Before the show started, I got a little practice as the CMs warmed up the crowd - this guy was interacting with the boy in the background. ISO 1600, F1.7, 1/90th second, cleaned with Noiseware (as are all of them.)

The creepy lighted-face guys... ISO 1600, F1.7, 1/500th second.

The evil queen, ISO 1600, F1.4, 1/90th second.

Minnie, ISO 1600, F2.4, 1/90th second.

For some reason, the Chernabog float was not running when we were there last month. :confused3

If I was going to film it again, I'd again use the 50mm 1.4, set the auto ISO to 200-1600 (instead of the usual 200-400), push up exposure compentation to 1.5 (which these were set at) and shoot in shutter priority mode, 1/90th second. That should be enough to get most parts of the parade with pretty good results (and hopefully some at lower ISOs), though you may still get a little motion blur on fast-moving things like the spinning balls or character's arms.
