Photo sharing: Sony Alpha

Can anyone offer me some critique and help with how to edit? I just took these yesterday and ran them through LR3. I haven't gone through all of the photos so here are just a few. She is almost a month old, so she wasn't so cooperative. I did these as a favor for a friend. I'm just kind of upset that it didn't go as smoothly as planned and I'm a little upset with the photos. I had all these ideas in my head and none of them worked out.

Upset? Those pictures came out great and look amazing :thumbsup2

Thanks Hockeyman! I just finished putting them on a disk to give to my friend. I ended up with 10 poses that I really liked.

The pictures you guys post with the NEX-7 sure make it a really appealing option when its time for an upgrade.

Heres a few pictures I shot last early this week and last week on our trip using the Sony A55.

I keep forgetting to post in this thread until someone bumps it back up! Nice shooting lately - Harry, you've been nailing some very nice ones on that baby - don't know what you'd be disappointed in! And I love the sleeping TTA shot.

Here are a few more wildlife shots from my NEX-5N with the 55-210mm lens, this time also using a Sony 1.7x teleextender for some extra reach:

This blue jay was sitting on the wall in my front yard waiting for a peanut handout:

And a few with my A580 and Minolta 300mm F4 APO lens out in the wetlands...First, a momma raccoon and her cute fuzzy little cub:

Continuing the baby theme, here are some adorable little ducklings:

A least tern youngster was waiting on this metal shelter roof for mom to bring some food - here she is arriving with the catch of the day:

And one last one that I had put in the 'moon' thread, but since it was a Sony, I'll drop it here too! This is the supermoon from Saturday, taken with my A580 and a Tamron 200-500mm lens at 500mm, plus a 2x teleconverter for 1000mm optically, plus the 1.5x crop factor of the camera yielded a 1500mm equivalent total reach:

Hey Mike, I've been following you on Flickr and your pictures are awesome! I was nervous switching from Nikon to Sony but now I'm just amazed at the photos I'm getting from my little Nex. I love that shot of Epcot. I saw it on Flickr and was amazed by the composition and editing. What's your workflow? I think my favorite thing about the Nex is the use of older lenses. I'm going today to pick up a Minolta MC 50mm f1.4 PG and SRT102 film camera for $60 locally.

Here's one. I popped a flash around 1/16 power to ghost Dumbo.

Justin, I wish I could come with you on your nature expeditions. Those are perfect. I always speak highly of your capabilities with the Nex.

Thanks Harry, I saw you commented on that picture :) The picture came out pretty good, not perfect but I am still pleased with it. Had you told me 9 months ago when I ventured into the DLSR realm that I will eventually take pictures that look halfway decent I would have laughed lol. So anytime I take a picture and it comes out decent or someone comments and says its a good pic im just amazed lol

I started out getting a Sony A390 and within a month knew I wanted something bigger better so about 3 months ago I picked up the A55 and since a few new lenses. Still looking to step up eventually when money allows.

My work flow is chaotic to say the least lol. Starts with me trying to balance my camera in one hand while either holding or chasing my two daughters (21month & 10month old) around everywhere :rotfl: I use Lightroom to do all my editing and also have been using Nik Color Efex and that has been giving me that pop and contrast you saw on that Epcot Pic. Ill sharpen them up and reduce noise back in Lightroom however once done in Color Efex.

The Dumbo picture is amazing. The night and low light pictures I have seen with the NEX 7 have been pretty remarkable :cool1: My night photography at Disney is rather lacking since we tend to head back to the resorts in the early evening to avoid any toddler night time meltdowns in the park (learned that lesson the hard way lol).

I'm with you Mike. I started about a year ago and have been through 2 DSLR's(T2i/D5100). I wasn't shooting any action shots so I thought I'd move to mirrorless to get something I could stick in my pocket or my wife's purse. Now I'm invested in the Alpha mount with the Nex 7, LA-EA2, Sigma 17-50 f2.8 OS, Tokina, and SAL35F18. I have been very happy with my NEX in that I can use the adapter and get PDAF or stick with my trusty manual lenses which I love. I can say that on my baby photos the lighting was dim and I was using manual focusing because the 35 was hunting alot. The only focus point that gives me no trouble is center point. I do find that my D5100 had spot on focus in all lighting. I really wanted the PDAF to catch my girls (5 and 20 months). Does the A55 support focus peaking for manual lenses? I think for my next Disney trip I'd like to have 2 bodies to reduce lens changing.

Im heavily invested in the Sony A-mount now so to change systems would require me to pretty much win the lottery lol. Do they make mounts to adapt the a-mount lenses to the NEX? Besides seeing some great pictures, I havent done too much research on the Sony Nex cameras. I find when I start researching I tend to want and that leads me to finding ways to spend money lol.

Havent heard of focus peaking up until you just asked me about it. Just read that it isnt available on my camera, probably explains why I havent heard of it lol. I think the the A65 and A77 have it though.

Yes Mike, the lenses I have are for Sony A mount via the LA-EA2 adapter. I actually don't own any E mount lenses(Nex mount). I opted for the Sigma 17-50 over the Sony 16-50 because the Nex doesn't have IBIS. I think I bought one of the last Sigma's with stabilization. So with the LA-EA2 adapter, you essentially have a DSLR. I think one day I'll pick up a used A580. I'd like to have both eventhough I'm satisfied with the Nex 7. The only thing I wish they would fix in a firmware update is the exposure bracketing. The Nex only brackets +-7 EV.

Mad Tea Party by Night by Harry Shields, on Flickr

I was like you going back to the room early with the kids. I was lucky enough that my wife let me go back to the parks 2 nights when the MK and HS didn't close till 1am.

I picked up recently the Tamron 17-50 and Rokinon 8mm fisheye and love both those lenses. If I were to get a new body it most likely would be the A77. Im still a ways off from getting one so chances are something else may come along in the meantime and change my mind.

Everest HDR by MIke Sperduto (Sperduto Photos), on Flickr[/IMG]

This was my 1st official actual multiple exposure picture. I've done some single shot HDR but decide to give it a try last weekend while at AK.

It's hard to get out by myself while on trips. I was able to get out twice last week. One night was to go see Illuminations at Epcot and try to get some decent pics. That was an epic fail lol. The second night was to run the Everest Challenge at AK but go figure I didn't have my camera with me.

Mike, I know what you mean about Illuminations. I was setup by the water in Japan with the Rokinon fisheye and took about 15 shots. I think I kept 2. I'll have to upload them.

I was in Italy wedged between the bridge in the middle and a huge flower pot with a tree in the way. I had to balance the tripod on the edge of the pot to get it over the hedges and people infront. Was a mess lol. I got 1 or 2 decent also I'll have to post
