I thought that it was time that I posted a few more pictures from our trip.

Here is an elephant from the Safari:

Rainy day today, so I thought I'd post a couple of shots from earlier this spring.

Boca Raton is not a half bad place to live. A few scenics from a lovely Sunday day, taken with A300 and Tamron 10-24 UWA:

Some rather nice homes lining the Spanish River section of the intercoastal waterway, as seen from the Spanish River marina on the beach island:

I love when the skies are like this, and the intercoastal waters are that deep clear blue:

original.jpg

Heading the other direction, you walk through the sea-grape forest sitting on the ocean ridge, and down the boardwalk access paths to the local beaches:

original.jpg

A little closer, the palm tree greeting you to the beach beyond:

original.jpg

And then the sands, warm and soft under your feet, the grasses gently blowing, the waves shhh-ing, and the sky looking like a painter's creation:

Walking back from the beach, the sun moving west through the trees, and the long tunnels of sea grape and mangrove hammock back to your car:

original.jpg

Of course, Florida always has its touch to the wild side...scary to some, beautiful to others...harmless as long as you don't stray from the path. All throughout those sea grapes and mangroves this time of year are the massive Golden Orb-Weaver spiders, famous for their soccer-net sized intricate webs and, well just for being huge!:

original.jpg

There are thousands of them, the size of fists, just a foot or so off the trail, above your head, and to both sides. But they know not to build across the path to avoid ruining their webs, and residents know the spiders won't bother them if they just stick to the path. It does rattle the visitors a bit, though, seeing a spider the size of a hand a few inches above their heads!

Just a fine day in the life of Boca Raton in the fall, 87 degrees and sunny, water temps 85 degrees and clear, waves 1-2 feet. Hope you enjoyed!

Khokhonutt's pictures reminded me of these. Taken during Street Vibrations this year.

that devine Picture is amazing. Ijust set my camera up to get back into the groove. It has been a while since I have taken pictures with my DSLR

I agree with the other's comments. Mickey88, the picture of Devine is truly stunning. Thank you for sharing this.

Justin, I also appreciate your pictures of Boca Raton for a number of reasons. I live in Michigan and the trees are now bare and Boca Raton looks really nice right now. Justin, I also like the composition of your pictures. I've been considering a UWA lens and your pictures with your Tamron lens are very nice. I would interested in other comments you have about your lens. I'm sure that Kathy may also have some comments on UWA lenses for a Sony DSLR body, which would be helpful.

I thought that our thread could use a "bump". So, I thought that I'd post another picture from my last WDW trip.

Might as well pop in here with some new Sony shots...I think as the first representative in this thread with the new Sony DSLR-A550! Picked it up Oct 31, just before my vacation to the southern Caribbean...so I had the chance to actually test out the camera during the trip - trial by fire. I must say, I love this camera. It is everything good about my A300, plus 5x more. Superb color, excellent metering, superfast focus, best live view ever with two modes, gorgeous 920k LCD, superfast continuous mode, battery that lasts forever, great white balance...and just all around a wonderful camera. Here are a few shots from the cruise:

I'm always a sucker for industrial sunsets:

One of my crazy sailaway shots in pitch black night - -6 brightness for this one, taken handheld from a moving boat OF a moving boat...ISO6400 straight from camera (and not with a low light lens - 45mm at F4.5:

Some of the ship interior with the Tamron 10-24 UWA - all handheld, with high ISO as needed:

This is an example of the built-in HDR mode - it fires two frames at EV as wide as +3, and automatically aligns and merges them for the ultimate in dynamic range. This is a very dark shadowed room with massively bright daylight out the windows - a nightmare for a camera:

The rain did make for a spectacular sailaway shot - sun cutting through rainbands, and wet decks reflecting the clouds:

Inviting? Let's see...sugar-soft sands, clear blue-green waters, 88 degrees air, 86 degrees water, sun shining, noone within 1/2 mile of you:

Seriously...look at that water color:

love this one

beautiful and moody!

Great stuff Justin! The A550 sounds like a great camera. Its high ISO capabilities seem to be as good as it gets for APS-C at the moment and Sony has definitely improved their JPG output.. makes me excited for A700 replacement whenever that comes along.
