Hi all I have been a Minolta/Sony shooter for over 12 years now.
We are going to WDW over Thanksgiving for my 6th time. The kids and dhs 4th.
I want to get some great fireworks and night parade shots I did this many years ago with film and got great shots. Only thing is I dont' want to lug my Bogen tripod around the park all day. So does anyone use the gorilla tripods? That would make my life and back much better.
TIA
Breezy

several people on here use the gorillapods, or simply get a locker for your tripod...

I have the DSLR version of the Gorillapod and have taken it to Disney but when I want to be more certain of my shots I carry a standard tripod. If you can find a flat surface to place the Gorillapod on it's not too bad but I have not had the best of luck in getting it very stable if I have to wrap it around a post or railing - I end up with more blurry shots than not. I do think other's have done ok with it.

Thanks guys. I guess I better research the locker sizes and my tripod which is a monster :(.
I lug it when I get paid to shoot but really don't enjoy toting it around when I am on vacation lol.
Thanks again

So, do tell, Mickey88. Which lens did you use to take this picture? The image and the bokeh are very nice.

it was shot at f 7.1... 1/250..fill flash...

and an accidental iso of 1600

I just upgraded from an A100 to an A700. I'm loving it. I haven't had a lot of time to play with it, but here are a few shots:

Our (14 year old) puppy:

Our kids' band director and his son:

My daughter (a little out of focus, but beautiful none the less):

My son:

One of the few times I've caught the two of them on the field in one shot:

The marching pictures were all taken on a fairly dark and dreary day, so I was stopped down to F4. I look forward to getting that last one on a brighter day, when I can get both kids more in focus.

you are definitely going to love the A700 it's an awesome camera... are you running the latest firmware on it

Congratulations on your new camera Khokhonutt! Nice pictures!

One of the really nice things about the A700 w/ firmware v.4 is that it can handle higher ISO quite nicely so if you don't get your sunny day you can try bumping it up and stopping down the aperture more and see what you get.

Just take a look at all the great 1600 ISO pics MICKEY88 keeps posting! :goodvibes

Too funny! I hit post and saw you were heading that way too. I bet your spelling is better though - I had to fix my post after seeing your quote of it!

Thanks, guys. I kind of assumed since the camera was new that the firmware would be the latest, but I'll check and see.

it all depends on when your camera left the factory..

you definitely want the latest firmware it makes a world of difference at high iso..

Jeff, those are some awesome shots!! I was in marching band for around a decade and you seemed to capture the emotion on the field (especially the shot of both of them.) There's always this sense of concentration and intensity from the band's point of view on the field. Love it! :thumbsup2

Glad you guys made me check. My camera was at v1. It's now flashed to v4. :)

Thanks! Taking pictures of all of the band kids is a passion of mine. I run the band's website and I try to get as many as I can. I was in band, too, from elementary school through college. The work these kids do is amazing.

Since you enjoyed them, and since it's fairly early in the year for this year, here are a few of my favorites from last year:
