Sisterly love by Harry Shields, on Flickr

Since back surgery, I haven't made it away from the house for photography.

The second one is good, but the first is magnificent! Nice job Harry!! I hope your back gets better soon. I'm dealing with a bum knee and have to get it back in shape for this weekend.

Thanks Mr. Terry! I hope your knee feels better, I look forward to your post. I go to the Doc for my 6 week checkup. I've been pretty sore lately from more walking and squatting. I had the L4-L5 disk removed and now just waiting for the bones to fuse. He said around 1 year for full recovery. I've just been shooting around the house lately.

I thought I was crazy when I spent a lot on the 43 limited. After using it, I find its not really razor sharp at 1.9 but it sure is magical. It has that "3D look". I wonder if I would like the 15 and 70 limiteds? With the limiteds, the K-5 is only a little larger than the Nex 7/6 and lens.

Not really, but maybe the title should be, "So you want to be a sports photographer?

Terry Post-Race 2862 by Terry McGraw Photography, on Flickr

This after shooting day 3 of the NHRA Lucas Oil Series Division 3. Hot, sweaty, speckled with tar and rubber, tired and looking at 3-4 hours of cleaning cameras! And you notice I didn't even mention Post-Processing!!

The only thing making it worthwhile is getting shots like this ..... and the people.

Greetings!

The first couple of posts will probably be tests since I've never posted a picture before. Anyway...

I've been shooting with Pentax cameras since the late 90s (ME Super) and transitioned to a *ist DS2 in 2005. A couple of months ago I bought a K20D. We're going to Disney again in August and this will be my first trip with my Pentax (last 3 trips have been P&S). Hopefully I get some good pictures from our 4-night Dream cruise and the our 3 days in the parks to post later this year. I've got a few lenses from my film days that I'm trying to find, but I did find my Pentax 28mm f/2.8 and I've started testing it for our trip. I've got several lenses for my digital cameras, but nothing fancy. I did get a 18-135 DA lens for the 20D. I've also got Tamron 18-200, and that's the lens the skydiving shots were taken with I'm attaching.

I hopped my TriPacer about 15 miles east of where I'm based to take these pictures. These (if they showed up) were from the K20D and Tamron. Again, nothing fancy, but they were fun to take.

PS - Using Picasa to host and don't know if that'll work.

These pictures were taken with my *ist DS and various lenses (usually my 70-300 with 1.4x teleconverter).

I love the warbird shots. The P-51 is my second favorite next to the B-17, followed by the Me-262. I have been up close and personal to the Gunfighter. Great shots!!

Terry

:thumbsup2!!!!! Great photos. I really like the first one because of the lighting.

Thanks Papa and HPS3. The P-40 is my favorite WWII fighter because my Daddy built one for me when I was a little kid. I know a couple of WWII 51 pilots (from my 6.5 yrs in OKC) and I've heard some cool stories of their careers in the USAF. I've got a lot of aerial pictures from around VA and will try and post some of the better ones in the next few weeks.

Since this is a Disney site, I need to throw this tidbit in... I picked up a used Sigma 30mm f1.4 EX for our trip in August. I'm not taking a tripod, but plan to haul a monopod down to help a little. I haven't shot much low light photography w/the K20D, what's the opinion of ISO1600?

Thanks

I have never shot the K20D, but did shoot extensively with K10D. I tried to max out the ISO at 800 and that was a little noisy. I did have to use 1600 quite often and it required noise reduction software (I use Topaz Labs DeNoise 5). I think you will be happy with the Sigma 30. Its a pretty good lens. I have used it on the dark rides and for the nighttime parades.

Just a little story, one morning a few years ago (maybe more than a few :rotfl2:), I read in the newspaper that the Collings Foundation had their B-17 and B-24 at local airport and were going to open them for tours. I immediately jumped in the car and drove over. Part of the back story, I grew up around naval aviation and was a Marine aviation electrician on F4B/J Phantoms back in the 60's. When I arrived, there were four older gentleman standing there. I struck up a conversation and learned they were all gunners on B17's (one was on B-17's and 24's) in WW II. Three were waist and the other ball turret gunner. Three were in the Eighth Air Force and the other was in Italy (I don't recall the unit, maybe the Fifteenth?). I had them alone for an hour and then they became volunteer tour guides. I spent hours with these gentlemen. It was one of the best days of my life. I learned more about the B-17 than I could ever learn from a book. I was completely fascinated with the stories. I started talking to the granddaughter of one and she explained that he had been shot down twice, The first, the entire crew survived, but in the second, he was the lone survivor. He was repatriated by the Yugoslavian partisans after being missing for a month. My thoughts, which I related to them was, "I have been to war (VietNam) and have been shot at, but I don't know if I have your courage to climb in this airplane and do what you did!" Their reply? "We didn't even think about the danger. We just looked at it like it was a big adventure." Incredible men!! To quote Tom Brokaw, "They really were the Greatest Generation"!

Mr Terry, did they forget to lock it down. Where were the cotter keys? Great timing on the shot.

Here are a few pictures family/friends took of me (w/my Pentax *ist DS) and my bachelor ride. It was a 2000 Bushby Mustang II that I bought in 2004 with about 125hrs on it. Flew it to CA from VA (and back) in 2005. It was a blast!

Before the Mustang II pictures, here's are a coupe pictures for you Papa (2005 Neptune Festival at NAS Oceana)

Enjoy...

Unfortunately, the lower F-86 no longer exists. It crashed departing Hickory, NC for Oshkosh several years ago. Full fuel, pilot didn't survive.
