Here are two pictures from today after my son went through Pass and Review for the 2013 VA Wing CAP Encampment. These are post graduation and he's happy to see us...and go get some food (and take more than 5 minutes to eat).

Thanks Harry! I've enjoyed yours too. Now that I've got the K-20D, I'll have an SLR at WDW this August ( on the Dream too) and should get some pictures of Disney stuff. I'm heading up to my Mama and Daddy's place in the mountains this week and hopefully will get some cool shots up there too.

Happy Independence Day everybody!

After four days shooting at the NHRA O'Reilly Auto Parts Nationals at the Route 66 Raceway, I was going through the day's images for throwaways. Just before I was ready to hit the delete key, I noticed who the man sitting on the wall was. It was the legendary (some say infamous) Conrad "Connie" Kalitta. I grew up hearing and reading about "Connie" and could not delete it!!

While I was shooting in the staging lanes, he had walked passed me and I didn't get a shot. I thought I had blown it and failed to get an image of him. It's just a personal thing!!

I trust everyone had a very Happy Independence Day! I spent the last 5 days at my parents' house in Nelson County, VA. They built a 600sqft cabin (not including loft) back in the early 2000s (did 95% of the work themselves). Anyway, I had a great time and here are some of the pictures I took.

18.4 minute exposure about 10pm. The lights at the bottom of the picture are from the Wintergreen Ski Resort across the county (~13miles).

We had quite a few days of rain, and here's the fog building off the river one afternoon (my folks have river footage, it's just 400' below the house).

Hummingbird pictures. These were tough since the feeder and I were under the porch and the background was bright. I was purposefully overexposing the shots to get the colors. Helpful hints on how to do it better would be appreciated!

I started off this morning to visit my family (and get some Lexington BBQ) in Davidson County (North Carolina), but had to land short because once I crossed into NC the clouds were solid below me all the way to the airport down there. My plane isn't legal to fly in the clouds right now...

Anyway, after I landed, this T-28 came in to practice his routine for the airport's upcoming airshow. I got some really good shots, and some not quite as sharp (still messing with camera options on focus).

Here are my favorites...

you mean they never saved any of his old cars?

They have them, however they no longer race. This was taken on lap 145 (turn 4) of this past weekend's STP 300 at the Chicagoland Speedway. With STP being the race sponsor, Michael Annett drove this car painted (or decaled) like one of the "King's" car. According to everyone, it was the closest re-creation of one of his color schemes. I am a huge fan of the man. I have had the honor of meeting him on numerous occasions and actually working an event with him.

These are a few from Monday's media day shoot with Dale Earnhardt Jr., Miss Sprint Cup Jaclyn Roney with Miss Loop Radio thrown in for good measure. Dale was in town to promote the upcoming Chase race at the Chicagoland Speedway in September. It started with us closing State Street so Dale could do a burnout in front of the historic Chicago Theater. From there it was off to ESPN to do SportsCenter. Then to Millennium Park for a Q & A with the fans. During the Q & A, he was asked about things he would like to do around Chicago. He related that during the media day last September, they conducted a photo shoot in front of the Bean. He stated, He didn't know you were supposed to go under it or inside it. He had to do that. At the conclusion, unbeknownst to us, we were off to the Bean! I got a couple shots of Dale and Jaclyn attempting to take a picture of themselves in front of the Bean with the ipad. The day was a great success with Dale and Jaclyn doing a fabulous job. Dale was unbelievable with the fans and kids. I never saw him decline an autograph or a fan photo op. He deserves the utmost respect and my hope is that he will finally get that elusive championship. He is a great ambassador for the sport and I wish all athletes would look to Dale on how to represent themselves!

Great set Mr. Terry. That second burnout shot is really cool with the smoke.

My neighbor ask me to take 3 headshots for her theater class at USM. I took about a 10 shots and picked my favorite 3. I need to definitely work on my posing skills. I'm used to shooting candids and was a little uncomfortable because I have never tried to instruct someone on how to stand, smile etc. The one shot I really love with her laughing has some motion blur because I was shooting at 160th and forgot to raise it at that split second. Any critique is welcome.

Harry, I'm probably not the one to give advice on posing, because like you, I don't do a lot (or any) model/studio type work. I do like the third one the best. On the first, the background is blending with her face and losing definition. On the second, the background is distracting. Sometimes its best to throw out the rule of thirds and I would have centered her a little more and then try to tone down the background a little. And thanks for the compliment, it was a fun day of work!

Nice headshots! For those curious about the Sigma 30mm f1.4 DX, heres a bunch from my recent Disney trip! Lol, I am not asking for critique lol, as this trip wasn't about photography but a Daddy Daughter trip and spending time together!

We started the trip 8/24 with a stop at the Kennedy Space Center so I could show the kids where IT all happened. I showed them this beauty...which I saw blast off in 2010 during STS-132.
