Photo package

I don't think they are doing to all prints anymore. We have been on 4 cruises and always do the photo package and on our last cruise the All Digital was on a USB drive instead of the CD and they were not printing any pictures except what was ordered. They got rid of the library of folders and added more kiosks for looking at them electronically. On one hand we really enjoyed getting all the prints but to be honest we did not really do much with them so while I was initially unhappy that they were no longer included it ended up being not a big deal.

It is just my husband and I and we think of the photo package as a trip long excursion. We are not good at taking pictures of each other. Even when we take turns the two pictures don't even look close because my husband and I are not similar photographers. But when we have the Shutters folks take the pics then we have similar pics of each of us and pics of us together. When it is our turn then I go in and get a few shots taken then he joins me and we have a few couple shots and then I step out and he gets a few shots taken.

We like to get pics with the characters during the day and then we take all of the "Lifestyle" backdrops every evening. If you get there a few minutes before the scheduled time then the lines are not very long and you can be done with that one and on to the next one within about 15min. We also really enjoy chatting with the "Handlers" while waiting for the characters and chatting with the folks around us also waiting for pictures.
I have to agree. I had no intention of buying my prints, and no purpose for them. But then I saw them... and paid another $100 for them. They're still in the envelope. I should at least invest in an archival envelope.

How long ago were you on one of the ships? Just wondering since I am hoping the option to get all the photos printed is still one I can take advantage of. We sail the end of Feb, and I have already ordered the USB, but really want to add on the physical photos.

We were on the Fantasy last March (2017). I don't think the prints are made automatically anymore, but I don't know if you can still get them if you pay for them. When you get there, go to the Shutters counter and see if you can purchase them. They might print them if they are pre-purchased. I didn't see an option to pre-purchase on the website, though and last year that had been an option. But I was able to buy them on the ship (as they were already printed).

The cost was ridiculous, but we will probably do it again next time. On most cruises, we only buy 1 or 2 photos. Our first DCL was a 7 nt over Thanksgiving, and we wanted pics with all the characters in their different costumes, so we paid for the whole package including prints. We had several hundred by the end! I never would have printed them otherwise, but DD ended up making a collage on her wall with a bunch of the prints. I'm SO glad we got it!

Worth it is very subjective. Personally, for us, we feel that it's worth it. It's just the two of us so it's great to have someone else take photos for us. While we often use our own camera too, we love the professional photos. We are big on characters M&G so we get dozens of photos with characters over the cruise. We also make a conscious effort to stop at most photo ops. Last B2B cruise (7 days), the Shutters staff commended that they had never had so many photos some from one cabin before. We had hundreds but they were great. We will do the package again.

So happy to see this post.
A few questions thought...
Do they take pictures of kids in the kids clubs?
Is this available for 3 day cruises?

We always do photo pass at the parks. I can't imagine not doing this on the ship...

We did not pre-purchase the package because I wasn't sure what level of quality to expect (I don't usually like or purchase PhotoPass pictures at the parks.) However, on day three when I dropped in to look at photos, I said to myself, "Well, shoot, we are going to have to buy this!" The pictures of our family were SO great - professional quality for sure. We did buy the package and it only included about 80 pictures because we spent the first 3 days not really seeking out photo opportunities. They are still wonderful pictures, though!

Next time, I will pre-purchase to save $50 and we will actively seek out family picture opportunities around the ship. I think on a 7-day cruise, we could easily double the amount we took this time.

It's my understanding that they (Shutters photographers) do not take photos of the kid's in the kid's clubs. Now, there are activities that the CMs in the club take photos to be used to make things.

There are photo packages available for all cruises. You can check your cruise here to see what's offered:

Almost $200 for the USB...Is it possible to rack up enough photos (1 kid 2 adults) in 3 days??? We always get photo pass in the parks...Is there enough opportunity to get a bunch of photos?

Well, only you can figure out it you'll get enough. Individual photos cost $14.95 for 4X6 photos & $19.95 for 8X10 photos.

There are photo opportunities in the atrium every night. Roving photographers in the dining rooms, and on Castaway Cay. As well as character photo ops.

Hi Oregongram,

It was listed on one of the flyers that had the prints packages on it. You can also see the option in the kiosk as this is where you'll have to add the photos to the book on the last night I think before 10pm. You pick the photos places them on the different pages in the book where you want them put in your shipping address confirmed everything and your done. they'll charge amount to your OB account and the book arrives to your door in a few weeks (I think the disclaimer said something like 6 - 8 weeks shipping time) but it arrived less that two weeks after we returned from our cruise.

Is it possible to ask for photos without the “decorative” borders? That’s what has always turned me off from the Shutters photos in the past — a great photo of the family and then some random border around the edges that I don’t care for. I’d be much more inclined to order a photo package if I could opt for no borders. Anyone know if this is possible?

Nope. All photos have borders. Now, some of the "borders" are just a notation of the ship/cruise/dates in the corner, but most are full on borders.

Heaven forbid a photographer should supply a product that can be customized for different people.

To me it really depends how much you take photos with the photographers. We didn't take too many pictures with the photographers so we only had about 20 pictures to choose from. we ended up going with the 10 pics for $150 option. Some people rack up like 100+ photos on their cruise so I would think it was worth it for them to do the $300 unlimited option.

Again, totally subjective. I'm a picture person, so it's $ well spent for me.
Just to give you an idea, on a 3 night with 3 adults & 2 kids we took 77 pictures; 16 different photo ops. This includes Princess and Frozen meet & greet and nightly dinner pics. We only did 2 backdrop pictures. That was for our first cruise. By our 3rd cruise, we were down to 42 pictures for a 3 night. We're doing Panama this April and I've already purchased the USB package.
