Good morning folks! Well I think it is morning, I haven't slept all night because we are getting pounded by Fay. I shouldn't say pounded, but this tropical storm 'sound' is really frightening to a girl from the midwest.:scared1:

Hopefully, I can get some rest later today. Yoga scheduled for this morning and maybe a 4 miler when the kids are at swim team later today.

Dave and Jodi, Yeti sounds like fun! Sorry it is closed, well not really, DH would kill me if I made another trip down there.:rolleyes1

I simply had to post since Colleen is up earlier than I am today:lmao:

Colleen - Sorry Fay is messing with your slumber and I hope you're able to get some rest and a few miles in today:banana: .

Howard - Congrats on your most recent donation:yay: . You'll be back out there before you know it and saving a life is always a good thing:)

Dave - You adults only weekend sounds heavenly:cloud9: . Keeping my finers crossed it's a go for Philly for youpopcorn:: .

Jodi - ARE you okay girl:hug: ?! You'd better check & see if your new weapon is even legal in the state of PA:rotfl: . I don't think you can carry pepper spray in NY.

Rest day for me today:hippie: .

Finally caught up on the posts I missed while I was gone. Now I probably should get back to work.:lmao:

Real quick about my running - not going so well right now. I managed to run exactly once for only 3 miles during my 9 days of vacation (why even bother?). I had 10 miles with 5 at tempo scheduled for yesterday. I expected it to be a bit difficult but I didn't expect it to go as badly as it did. I didn't even attempt to run a tempo pace since I couldn't seem to run under 11 minute miles. Today I had 4 recovery miles. Also went terribly. The 4 or 5 miler slow recovery runs are usually so easy for me. Today I felt like I was putting in a ridiculous amount of effort. I have 11 scheduled for tomorrow, I'm hoping that goes better - can't really go much worse.

Good Evening!

Dave & Sara - No, I'm ok. I mean, at least I think I'm ok?:rotfl2: I think I may sound a little bummed because my running hasn't been going well at all. I've got no mojo to speak of...not that I ever did, but now it's less!!

Cindy - WOW, sorry to hear that your runs are sucking hard...I can definitely relate!:sad2: Go nice and easy, slow down & maybe forgo a few speed workouts?:confused3 Most of all listen to your body :hippie: , you don't want to get injured, remember, that schedule you signed up for was pretty dang tough! Ever read that ChiRunning book?:rolleyes1

Colleen - That's some thunder storm, eh? I hope you have better luck tonight & that at least the weather brought in a cold front or something? Did you get that 4 miles in today?

Sara - Enjoy that rest day?

Dave - That's great, can't wait to meet Dana! Nice accommodations, bro :thumbsup2

Howard - WTG :thumbsup2 , I haven't donated blood in years! Go easy tomorrow!

Lou & Chester - Hope you're enjoying the west coast!!

Mikey - Guess you're still vacationing, eh?

Chick Pea - Where are you?? I'm callin' you out!!

I ran a 5 mile tempo thing this a.m. & was getting a bit frustrated & tired after the 3rd mile when I tried to really concentrate on my form & all the ChiCrap I learned. That made the 4th mile feel much easier w/ the same results as the earlier efforts. The 5th mile was a cool down & felt good too, so I'm a little encouraged. Just a little  . I've got 10 miles on tap for Sat., but it's supposed to turn humid so I may do it on Fri. instead. The weather here has been absolutely fabulous!!

Jodi - Glad to hear you got some of your chi flowing again:hug: . We've had beautiful weather as well and I've been working mornings only for the week so it's been real nice:thumbsup2 Hanging out with my chicks and getting ready for the return to school next week.

Cindy - Sorry your running is less than utopic these days:hug: . Maybe you just need a mental break for a bit. You can always run nice and slow with me for the PDR:banana: - did you get your race #popcorn:: ?

Dave - Any final word on Philly:rolleyes1 ?

Rest day was definitely needed yesterday:rolleyes: . I did 5 this morning and haven't really thought about a LR distance for the weekend. Hopefully 10 sometime over the holiday weekend:yay: .

Have a wonderful Labor Day guys:grouphug:

Jodi - Glad to hear you had a somewhat encouraging tempo run.:thumbsup2

I think what I am most upset about is that, even though the schedule is tough, everything was going pretty well before my vacation. Sigh. I did start the Chi book but just couldn't get all the way through it:confused3

Cindy did you get your race #popcorn:: ?

I did. I'm in corral 7 (which seems a bit ambitious at this point). I'd really love to get a PR - I'll have to see how the next 3 weeks go.

Yesterday I did manage to run my 11 miles - I even threw in 4 tempo miles to somewhat make up for the 5 tempo miles I didn't run on Tuesday. It wasn't a great run, but it was better than Tuesday or Wednesday's run. I really struggled with the first tempo mile, and the last tempo mile was a disaster (I couldn't keep my pace up AT ALL) but the 2nd and 3rd tempo miles actually felt ok. Then I felt terrible at the end of the run. Today was a rest day. I have 7 on Saturday and 18 :scared1: on Sunday. To say that I am not looking forward to Sunday's run would be a bit of an understatement.

My knees always hurt (whether running or not) but since I got back from vacation, they have been killing me. Walking down stairs (down is worse than up) makes me want to cry. I have been icing them the past 2 nights and I hope this is a temporary thing - since I didn't run for a week, maybe my body is just getting used to running again?

Sorry, that's enough whining from me.

On a happier note - Dave, Jodi, and Chester - did you get your clue email about the Yeti? I'm getting pretty excited for the race - should be a ton of fund. However, at risk of sounding like an idiot - I'm a bit confused by the clue :confused3 Not sure I know what answer they are looking for.

:wave2: to everyone else. I really should get back to work.

Cindy - Phew, glad you said it, cause I can't figure out that friggin' clue either :lmao: . When they show the movie b4 you go on the safari is there characters in there from one of those movies? I don't get it!

I was supposed to run 10 tomorrow, but since the weather was nice today & supposed to be humid tomorrow I decided to go out around 10. First 4 or so felt good, then I had to walk....then 1/2 way through mile 5 I had to walk...popcorn:: then after 7 miles I was passing my street & I said "eff" it & went home. I'm so ashamed :sad2:  . I felt like I was at mile 18 of a marathon, I really don't know what's going on. It can't be the speed work. Right now I'm tired as heck & want to go upstairs to take a nap. I mean, what's up with that?

Here is Matt's overly complicated guess answer to the clue - maybe the Lion King Movie is the "Safari" and thus the movie (or "film") that came last before the Lion King is Aladdin? So the answer would be Aladdin? Seems a bit too complicated for me. :confused3

If I figure out the secret to not having sucky runs, I'll let you know. :lmao:

One question - how fast are you running? Although your marathon times are much faster than mine, our half times are similar. Based on all the running calculators, etc. (using my half PR), I am supposed to do my long runs at around a 10:45 pace. Maybe you are running too fast and, while it may not have bothered you before, now that you are doing speed work the combined effort is having more of an impact? Then again, I don't know that you want to take any advice from me given that I could barely run an 11:20 pace on my 4 mile recovery run 2 days ago.:sad2:

BTW - its POURING here now! Stupid Fay followed me home!

Cindy - No, you're right about the LR times. My training plan says I should be running them @ 10:53 or something...and that's exactly what it is. Maybe my vanity's getting in the way...Usually I run 9:20-9:40 avg. pace for my LR & that's soooo not happening anymore. And I'm just so dang fatigued. OK, I'm done bee-atchin'. :rotfl:

I have no idea what Matt's answer means :rotfl2: , I'm such a dullard! My poor son & are going to running around AK all friggin' nightpopcorn:: !

Really quick because I have to get dinner on the table, but I managed my first double digit long walk today in my Philly training.

10 miles!!!

That is the longest I have walked since the Disney Marathon. If I can get 16 miles in without too much pain, I will register for the full marathon in Philly, if not, I dunno!:confused3

Colleen - That's awesome:thumbsup2 (I'll assume that the fact that you are excited about it means that the 10 miles were relatively pain free?)

Lou - Glad to hear you are having a great time. I hope the race goes really well for you tomorrow!

Got my 7 miles in this morning. It was super humid. The run wasn't terrible, but that's about the only good thing I can say about it. I am dreading my 18 miler tomorrow.

Hi! I can't say I am checking in from the Blue Bayou..:confused3 but I am checking in from Delaware.

I got out this morning and logged the following:

10 Miles in 1:31:16 for an overall pace of 9:07. My splits: 9:07, 9:05, 8:45, 8:42, 9:20, 9:07, 9:10, 9:07, 9:34, and 9:20.

I am happy with my results given my lack of running this past week. The last time I did ANYTHING fitness related was one week ago today.

Have a very happy and enjoyable Sunday and Labor Day tomorrow!

:grouphug:

I'm baaaack!

First off, Hey to all my long lost friends (and Jodi ;) ).

This'll probably end up being a bit lengthy, so I apologize in advance.

I just wanted to post a little trip report (since I pretty much have no running to mention).

We had a wonderful 3 weeks of fun, starting with 4 days at Vero Beach. The highlight for me was kayaking on the Indian River. We were lucky enough to see lots of wildlife including a couple of manatees. DD11 was solo in her own kayak and I was very proud to see her learn how to paddle and maneuver.

We then moved on to the Boardwalk Villas for 5 nights. That's when Fay decided to spin over most of Florida for a week. I'm pretty confident saying that I've never seen so much rain in all my previous FL trips put together. It slowed us down some but we still managed to enjoy the time. I worried about Cindy and wondered how some of her plans worked out.

Then it was on to Poly for 2 nights. More rain but it sure is nice staying on the monorail.

Lastly, All Star Music for 7 nights of free dining overindulgence. Now, let me start off by saying that I can eat a good bit of food quite frequently. But after eating at Kona, Cape May, Ohana, that ridiculously overpriced place in Italy, Mama Melrose, Boma, Coral Reef, and one or two more that my gluttonous mind can't recall, not to mention a counter service meal every day, who the hell can manage give a Mickey Bar the proper respect it deserves and truly enjoy it?:confused3 I think my biggest downfall was polishing off whatever DD's and DW weren't able to finish :scared1: . I hate to leave good food behind!

I'm going to give myself a week before I get on a scale just to lessen the shock of it all.

We had lots of magical moments along the way, starting with finding a plush Minnie in the room for DD5's BD and including getting Mickey ears from the Dream Squad 3 times. I was picked on by the whistle-blowing juggler in Italy and DD8 played a big part in his show a different day. DD5 pulled the sword from the stone in front of the carrousel (after her sisters tried and failed) and we were the "First Family" for one show at the American Adventure. They let us enter the theater first and announced us to the entire audience.

We finished off the trip in grand style on Sunday. Kathy got an e-mail a few days before we left for the trip announcing that they were conducting tours of the suite in The Castle for 450 or so DVC members. Kathy responded back right away and reserved our spots. We were planning on returning home early Sunday morning but extended it a few hours for a 12:40 tour.

It was fabulous. There were suppposed to be 10 people in each group but the other folks never showed so it was just our family. A DVC rep escorted us from the meeting point by the Sleepy Hallow funnel cake place up to the castle, where we were handed off to a castle suite concierge. She let us in the secret door to the "lobby" where we were passed to another concierge for a brief intro, then passed to another for the elevator ride up, then to another that gave us the grand tour for 15 minutes or so.

We didn't tell the girls until a few minutes before so they were all surprised and excited. They (and I) really enjoyed it. It was a perfect way to end the trip!

O.K., now for the running part (I've been told this is some sort of running forum, after all): I was somehow completely unmotivated to run pretty much the entire trip. I managed a 5 mile run around the Boardwalk-Studios-Yacht/Beach Club area one night and that's about it. Oh wait, one evening I jogged from Italy to the van in the parking lot so I could move it over to the Beach Club for dinner. It brought back fond memories of running mostly the same route with Jodi in January.

So, what's that? About 6 miles in 3 weeks? Pretty darn impressive!!

This week is going to be no fun. I think my schedule has me doing a couple of 6's, an 8, and 16 or 18 this weekend:lmao: :lmao: . I'll be happy if I can do a couple of 4's and maybe 10. Pretty much starting over at this point.

Alright, if anyone's left, sorry for taking up so much of your time. Just think of it as 3 weeks of posting all on one page.

Good Morning Everyone:

Welcome back Mike- Great to hear from you, and it sounds like you had a wonderful trip. Wow, you all had a ton of fun. It sounds absolutely fantastic. I would love to see the castle suite sometime. That's soooo cool that you got a tour. I'm surprised there was no mention of optimator in your trip.

OK, I'm back from a Labor Day weekend trip to see my Dad down in Delaware. Howard, I was thinking of you and Cam as I drove by Wilmington. We had a fun weekend. I got some running in, but didn't get a real LR in. That's OK, I'll consider it a step back week. I did something to my back though, pulled a muscle or something. Because it's been killing me ever since we came back on Sunday.

Yesterday, I did 4.5 miles with my girls. They were on their bike and scooter. DD7 pooh: got going way to fast down a hill, took a spill and skinned her elbow and knee. So I had to take her home, and didn't get my last 0.5 mile in. I was a little bummed at the time, but glad I could take care of her.

Today I "officially" start my new job at SUNY/Geneseo. I've been doing a lot of work down there already, but I wasn't being paid at all. So now I can't use my excuse anymore "well I don't officially start until Sept. 1". Now it's on.
