I need to buy my kitty an automatic feeder 'cause she is a piggy and I can't just leave out a big bowl of food. :)

Anyway, I was going to order it from amazon, but Petco has the item for the same price. I'm always concerned w/buying electronic things from amazon 'cause if they don't work it's a pain to send them back.

Is Petco good with returns? Should I just buy it locally instead? It's a $50 item so I want to make sure it works like it is meant to.

Thanks!

I'm not sure about the return policy, I just wanted to tell you to make sure you read the reviews. I recently bought one for my cats and there were many out there that had awful reviews. I'm very happy with the one I got.

which did you end up with? I read lots of reviews and thought the Petsafe 5 meal planner looked best.

This is all new to me. Our old kitty would just snack all day so could be left for long periods of time.. even a weekend. This cat will eat anything that's there. I'm afraid if I left out more than one serving she would pop!

I have someone that will check on her over Thanksgiving, but not the 3-4 feedings a day she would like. I wanted to give this a try for a few weeks before we leave.

From the Petco website

Your complete satisfaction is important to us!

Our return policy is simple. For your convenience, you can return merchandise to a Petco store or to petco.com.

Returns to Petco Stores

Your local Petco store will gladly accept returns of merchandise purchased through petco .com within 45 days of the initial shipment date.

Before returning merchandise to a Petco store, print a "Returns to Store Receipt." (Please note that the packing slip that came with your shipment(s) cannot be used for a return to a Petco store, as it does not contain pricing information.)

so if that's the policy when ordering thru their website, the store must be the same? If you aren't sure, just call them and ask!

I saw that but I know sometimes stores are more (or less) lenient than their official policy. I was just wondering if anyone had any specific experiences.

I took back a litter box that I bought online and had no problem. They just refunded the money to my credit card.

I ordered 2 feeders from Amazon 3 years ago. Still going strong! My kitty was diabetic and eats several times daily...these are great! :)

I can't comment on products, but they are great with food returns. I had a pet on a really, really expensive prescription diet. When she died, Petsmart allowed me to return the remainder of her canned food for a complete refund. It was quite a chunk of money.

You should do what's right for your family and for your pet. But many people are boycotting Petco. Right before Hurricane Irene last year, store employees in a Petco store told management that the store was in an area that was likely to flood. Management refused to let them evacuate the animals in the store, and many animals died. Petco tried to spin the story so that they wouldn't look bad, but it didn't work because there were so many articles about it.

Here's one story from a TV station in the area where the store was located: http://www.wbng.com/news/local/Saturday--Petco-129586498.html

And here's another from the newspaper in the area where the store was located: http://www.pressconnects.com/articl.../PETCO-discovery-Close-100-animals-lost-flood

If I had the choice, I'd buy from Amazon instead.

That's awful that 100 animals died like that! :sad2:

In general I do not patronize stores that sell animals. There are too many animals in shelters that are living in cramped conditions, or worse, being euthanized. All my pets are rescues or "rehomed".

I buy my pet supplies from a feed store.

Which ones do you have?

I didn't know about the flooding story and I'm not all that far from there. Thanks for the info. I have never shopped at a Petco.

My cat is a 3yr old from a shelter. We travelled over two hours to another state 'cause I knew after seeing her online that she was the right kitty.
