People are insane!

Although sometimes language and culture norms can create an air of rudeness, I have to say Americans are just as bad. And actually, I think I've seen more Americans be absolutely appalling to CMs then out of country tourists (although they could've been Canadian, but doubtful). Also, as an American who used to live in London, I can tell you from first hand experience that American tourists can be just as rude as any other tourist.
Oh you are totally right! I have seen more bad behaviour from Americans than anyone else. I've met some lovely people, like from Britain and Italy, etc., in the stand by lines.

One of the most unbelievable things we witnessed is that my DD 27 and I were settled in our Illuminations viewing area along the lagoon fence at Epcot waiting for the show to begin when a little girl, probably 7 or 8 years old, tearfully went up to the woman standing next to us and said that she couldn't find her parents. The woman started to try to help and her husband barked at her to ignore her because he didn't stand there for an hour for them to be "bothered" by something that was none of their business. I asked the little girl if she knew her parents phone number and she didn't so my daughter told me to go ahead and find a CM to help her and she'd try to save my space. I walked with the little girl over to a CM next to one of the kiosks near Mexico and the CM told her not to worry, they are very good at finding lost parents and she took over. When I returned to my daughter, several people had spread out to help save my spot (SO nice of them) and the original couple was gone. My daughter said that a lot of the other people there started giving the husband a hard time about his behaviour so they left. They lost their spots anyway, but I felt bad for the wife because she did try to help. Unbelievable that someone couldn't take a moment to help a lost child. God forbid if that ever happened to them and their child encountered the same type of person. So mean. :(

There will always be people in gatherings as large as Disney that will be rude, mean, complain about anything/everything, obnoxious, whiney, contentious, and anything in between, and let their kids be brats - unfortunately, that's what some humans will stoop to. :(
They are 'not' happy people. We just move on.

Fortunately, there are 'more' good people.

We've learned to enjoy ourselves and try to ignore what we can do nothing about. If we can help, we will. Otherwise it can ruin our happy feelings, and know that Disney is what we make of it for ourselves. Just got back from a 10 night happy, relaxing trip. :-)

I have never experienced that in WDW. Disneyland, that is the land of cutting. Blatant cutting.

We found this to be awful at DL, as well. One morning at rope drop on our last trip, the man who was standing behind us literally tried to mow down my son with the (empty) stroller he was attempting to hurtle through the crowd--didn't attempt to steer around him, just tried to go right through him. I had to quickly grab him (and we're talking a 54 inch, 65 lb elementary schooler, not a hard to see toddler) because he got hit from behind and it knocked his shoe off and he was starting to panic.

Another day, people were literally trying to shove past the line waiting for FP for Radiator Springs Racers--eventually, a CM called out a couple of them, but who just pushes people out of the way whilst snarling "outta my way!"?

I guess with the thousands of people visiting the Disney parks each day, the law of averages pretty much guarantees that some of them will be rude jerks. It just stinks when they're trying to mow down your kid from behind!

Some people are oblivious when it comes to CM instructions. A few years ago we were in line for Haunted Mansion and a CM was instructing people to fill in all available space. No one would do it. So she started getting more specific - shouting to fill in all available space and saying, "There is no single file line. If you see a space ahead of you and the people in front of you won't fill it in, you may go around them. You are not cutting in line - there is no single file line!" As we followed her instructions and moved ahead of a group of phone zombies, one of them looked up and said, "Hey. Those people just cut ahead of us in line." You couldn't make this stuff up lol.

I generally agree with your message, but it's difficult to ignore when (as several of us have mentioned) your child is literally being injured by the rudeness/craziness. We didn't let it ruin our trip by any means, but my son was understandably upset being suddenly struck from behind and having his shoe essentially pulled off and some skin scraped off by a stroller-wielding jerk, and it did make our rope drop experience on our first full day at DL, a negative one.

I'm going to be at Disneyland on Monday. I'm trying not to take all this to heart. I will probably have my daughter walk in front of me though. Better my ankles than hers!

Sorry, don't remember seeing your post, but this was not to imply in your or similar situations. I wouldn't/couldn't ignore it either if my child/family was treated badly. I just meant in general that we ignore what others are doing around us, and not let it impact our enjoyment of Disney!! We try to live in our 'happy bubble' there! :goodvibes

Actually, we no longer go at 'busier' times (summers, never did holidays) and no more rope drops. Giving the crowds 1/2 hr. start, plus going at slower times, has helped us avoid a lot of the craziness, plus we can actually SB some main liners without long lines. Went the end of Apr. first of May this year. (Yes, I do realize everyone cannot do this)

And I do the same thing on airplanes...try to make it a little less appealing to sit next to me. I like my personal space.

I've learned that nobody wants to sit next to the fat girl... much to my relief! Not sure how it's going to go now that I've lost 100lbs; I expect I'm a much more acceptable seat-mate. Maybe I'll eat a tuna or egg salad sandwich during boarding, LOL!! (can you tell we fly SWA?)

My girl! I've lost 115 pounds this year, I fly SWA on Monday. I will report back!

Isn't this assault? Shouldn't park security or police be called on those who use strollers as battering rams? I would think you could press charges when someone is injured.

Sorry to hear about your experiences! I've been in line and had several families move ahead of me due to the fact a "family member" was holding a space for them...that should NOT be allowed but what can you do? I'm the type of person that would say something but I don't think about getting myself in trouble. Just take your time, enjoy your rides when you get on and maybe...just maybe...you will have FUN!

That is quite an accomplishment. You should be so proud!

It probably technically is. Had my kiddo been truly injured, I would have pursued it further. But as it was, stroller guy was long gone (he didn't even really slow down after bashing into my son, and quickly disappeared into the crowd), and my son was already embarrassed (a few people were fussing over him and asking if he was ok), and upset that we lost a couple of minutes when we stopped so I could make sure he was ok (we'd gotten to the park entrance 45 minutes before opening to secure a spot, as he was super excited to ride RSR). He was very anxious to get on with our day and shake off what had happened, so I was ok with honoring that request.

My DH used the "puff" method when he flies alone on business. He puffs his chest out and makes himself appear bigger than he is so people don't take the seat next to him. I'll have to try this method in line when I go to WDW, spread my self out so nobody can get by me!
I'm sure he 'depuffed' a few times based on who was looking for a seat, especially if it looked certain someone would be sitting there eventually either way.

Spring break was kind of nuts. Luckily I could stuff a Mickey bar or alcoholic beverage in our mouths when humanity was losing its $&*!
