Pearson Scoring -- thanks for the suggestion!

Unfortunately, it told me there was no center near my zipcode. There was a link to apply to score essays at home, which would have been perfect. (B.A. in English, M.F.A. in Creative Writing) When I clicked on it, it said the "survey" has been closed.

I applied and got accepted to score too. Unfortunately, I realized (after filling out almost all of the paperwork) that they do not support Macs. I was really bummed - I was really looking forward to making some extra $$$ to pay off my debt.

I just went and applied. It said the pay is $12/hour and they have paid training

What I saw was pay was performance based and (I think) up to $12 per hour. Can anyone who has worked for them confirm the rate of pay? I know somebody for whom this would be perfect if the pay actually was $12 per hour from home.

Yes training is paid and the minimum is $10/hour. Average is usually $12/hour, but they make sure you don't drop below $10. This is not steady work, it is seasonal, grab it while you can type of stuff...some scoring goes quickly, but I haven't worked any that have lasted the full length of the scoring window.

Someone has told me they worked 1000 hours w/Pearson last year - I would LOVE that but don't see how it's possible, at least not with the assignments I've had.

I am a former high school English and ESL teacher.

As for requirements.....I can't remember. Is it only a BA and teaching credential preferred? I haven't looked at it in a long time.

But with such little information required on the applications, there is little to distinguish one applicant from another; it seems as if it's practically a lottery-based system. I wonder what the chances are that we'll hear something? (DH teaches at the secondary level; I taught elementary school and now teach at the college level.)

Can those of you who have worked for Pearson tell us how quickly they contacted you after you applied? How long was it until you got your first offer to train/score?

It's been a while since I applied but I'm pretty sure I had to send my college transcripts in. I applied in the fall and scored my first project the following April. Scoring is usually March - June, but some people have said they have summer and fall projects.

I don't remember it taking a long time for them to contact me, but I also don't know if it would be as quick right now since this is the busy season. Sorry.

I score for them as well. I applied in the spring of 2008 and started scoring in the spring of 2009.

The way that it works is you apply, then they send an email asking you to provide some more infomation. I think it was in the fall of 2008 when they sent that second email.

Your first assignment will have an extra couple of training modules. They are not difficult.

Each assignment will have specific training modules and practices. There is ample opportunity to practice and your work is monitored to ensure accurate scoring.

I have scored 6 projects and have 2 scheduled for this spring. I had one project that I had a hard time with and felt like I didn't do a good job. I was always second guessing myself even though I had good accuracy. The rest of the jobs have been easy but it does get tedious.

I would say that I averaged between $12-$14 an hour. One thing I would advise is to score for an hour, then take a short exercise break. Your eyes, brain and body will get tired!

Pay is direct deposited into your checking or savings or you can do some sort of paycard.

They really like you to score a lot at the beginning of the project. This means that even though a project may last for 3 weeks, there may be no more work after the first 2 weeks. If you are really trying to earn, plan on scoring heavily at the start of the project.

I just got an offer to score. I applied last spring, was asked to update my info at the beginning of this year, and just got an offer to score.

Anyone scoring for them? I got accepted on to a project and I'm very disappointed. I have had the worst trouble with logins, passwords freezing, etc. I got my first paycheck. Gross was $16 for training, they took $10 for fed my net was $4.68. Not really worth the time....

I have scored 2 projects this spring and I have made more money that I did last spring for comparable hours.

The first project that I did this spring had many technical issues the first week. It was very annoying, but the great part was, they doubled the pay for the following week to encourage people to score! I ended up making $60 an hour for the second week. It was awesome!

THey guarantee $10 an hour but I have never made that little. Usually it averages out to $15-25 depending on the project and training. Sometimes the training takes a loong time, other times it is quick and easy.

I would be very discouraged to only make $16 too! They guarantee $10 an hour, so does that mean that you only worked an hour and a half? Most of the training that I have done involves more money than that before you even get to qualification and scoring. It doesn't sound like you actually scored. Is that correct? With the technical issues, that can be understandable, especially for your first scoring attempt.

I will say that I had one project several months ago that I strongly disliked scoring. If they offer that one to me again, I will turn it down. Maybe you got a project that was a bad fit for you.

I would give it another try. I know that they need scorers because I got an offer to help complete a project because they didn't have enough to complete it once it had started. (More money for the WDW fund!!)

I just applied. My BS is in math, I teach high school (13 years experience) and will graduate with my masters in school counseling Saturday. Does this sound like something they would be interested in, or are most of you English teachers? I'd love to be able to make some extra money at home to pay off my student loans!
