Pearson Scoring -- thanks for the suggestion!

I only have substitute teaching experience (major in Journalism, minor in English), no teaching degree, and they took me! I'm sure, though, that I'm not getting the higher-paid assignments; that's ok, I'm happy with what I'm getting.

That's good to know! Just submitted my info....we'll see what happens.

This is the thread that led me to apply with ets.org last May! I finally heard from them in December, and started grading math pedagogy praxis exams last week. I got paid $69 (net) for training, and am making $20.xx an hour to score tests. I worked 4 hours Thu and 4 hours yesterday.

Thanks OP!

To those of you that are scoring, how long did it take you to get a response? I applied last spring and still haven't heard anything. I taught for 10 years and went through a lot of district/state training to score were I used to live. So I don't think it is a matter of being qualified. :confused3

I applied with ETS in May, and they contacted me in Dec.

I think I had applied at least 6 months before I heard anything. Pearson has just started sending out offers for spring scoring -- I'd bet they contact current scorers first, then fill in what's needed with new hires. If I remember correctly, I was contacted sometime in February last year to start scoring in March. Don't give up hope!

Saw this post and applied last night. I got a call today to fill out another survey with more information. But then I started reading this thread and noticed it only works with PC and I have a mac. I can't find any information about it online though. Is anyone using a mac and scoring? I was so psyched to be able to do this!

I signed up with ETS on 1/24 and just got an email today about a specific test I was approved for and that I'll get more info soon. Can anyone give me an idea of how quickly I'll be able to get to the training? TIA

It depends on the test. Which one is it? MET training hasn't started, but I've trained for the CPT4.

I haven't received anything this year. I think I may have not responded correctly when they sent out the last "are you still interested" email. I am not that concerned as I really don't like it, but it is nice extra income (seriously, it is like the one part of teaching I always hated, grading, is the only part of this job!)

Dawn

My training was like 3 hours, and I made $70 for it. I have worked 2 4 hour sessions (signed up for more but they were canceled), and cleared around $160. Not bad at all!

TOEIC...I just figured it would be months and I want to make sure I'm up to speed quick :)

Sorry, I don't know about that one! It seems like it takes about a week to get the initial paperwork for payroll, etc, and then you should hear about training in a week or two after that. That has been my experience with them.:goodvibes

Sorry-misread the question the 1st time! This was my experience as well:)

Is it maybe that the TOEIC is with ets.org not pearson?
This thread led me to applying to both.

i see that a lot of you are teachers. i'm going to let my mom know about this stuff. can you tell me how she would fare and if there are any specialized fields she could fit with?

BS, pharmacy
2 MS, nuclear chemistry and industrial pharmacy
PHD, industrial pharmacy

she's awesome at all sciences and math. has been a professor at a pharmacy school and also at a local school teaching advanced bio. very good english skills; she may have had a minor in some sort of writing/english also.

thanks for any input! i would love for her to have something to do on the weekends that would also give her a little money. that would definitely motivate her haha

No, I just haven't heard anything about the TOEIC. The MET and CPT4 are with ETS as well. I also score for Pearson, but haven't heard anything for this season yet. I score math and they sent an email saying they didn't have much math this year. I hope I still get something! I prefer Pearson because I like not having a fixed schedule.

I'd love to have a flex schedule, too. Maybe I'll get lucky and hear from Pearson as well. Does the scoring opportunities depend on the season?

It does. Starting in March through early June is usually pretty busy since the schools give their standardized tests.

It looks like the TOEIC will be year round, maybe not every week but not as seasonal. I almost applied for it after I was looking at it but scoring the writing stresses me out! I thought this might be like that so decided not to even apply.:goodvibes

Thanks. I applied. My degrees are Elementary and special Ed and Masters in Reading Specialist. We'll see if I'm acccepted. We can use any extra money we get. It appears that NC may give teachers a paycut and with two teacher incomes, that could end up being quite a bit!

Yay! Thanks for posting this. I just got laid off last week. I'm going to apply tomorrow once the kids have left for school.
