Pearson Scoring -- thanks for the suggestion!

I remember looking at this too and found they do not support mac computers.
Wish that wasn't the case.

$16 was one training module. I think I started right at the end of a pay period. Anyway, I can't get back in to the system because I'm locked out. I only scored for about an hour and it was so boring...I had to read the response to the same question over and over and over....

In your training, they said not to score over 10 hours a day...I had a hard time lasting 10 minutes. Maybe it is just this project but so far this isn't working out for me.

I'm in my 5th year of scoring with Pearson and love the extra money! I'm an advanced scorer now and generally have at least one or two projects a month. It's easy vacation money!

I just applied! I have a BA in English Literature and work as a teacher's aide in a high school. I have a 2nd part-time job which I am leaving in May, and this would be a great replacement. Thanks for sharing!

I get to start my training this week to score. I really appreciate the heads up on this job. I'll let everyone know how the training goes.

Does anybody have their money sent to them on the debit card?

I scored three projects for Pearson this late spring & early summer and have written test questions for ACT's Work Keys, the Foreign Services Officer Test, and the SOA/CSA Actuarial Science exams, but am looking for more freelance projects to work on. Is anybody aware of other programs that might be of interest?

I'm interested in doing this, but was curious about the time factor. Once you sign up for a project, are you able to so the minimum 20 hours per week all on the weekends or are you required to do it at certain times during the week?

You do it whenever you want, flexible schedule. Sometimes they get scored fast though, so the more you work at the beginning of a project the better. :) HTH!

I just signed up and would love to be picked. My husband is gone now to pick up one of our horses who has just spent a week at the vet's. I'm trying not to think how much the bill is going to be. I would love to get picked for this. We can always use some extra cash around here. :)

This is the thread that led me to apply with ets.org last May! I finally heard from them in December, and started grading math pedagogy praxis exams last week. I got paid $69 (net) for training, and am making $20.xx an hour to score tests. I worked 4 hours Thu and 4 hours yesterday.

Thanks OP!

i was starting to fill out the ets application but it asks for all sorts of teaching experience...do you have to be a teacher?

thanks.

I've got a B.S. Biology, English minor....been a substitute since 3/09....is is possible to find scoring chances?

I applied to Pearson and ETS this week. Currently working on an M.A. in education so haven't taught yet but have some tutoring experience. Years ago I graded the NJ-ASK for one of them but forget which one. Cross fingers!

I went through the training last spring for a 5th grade writing test (I teach high school). Apparently I suck at it. I was paid over $200 for the training, but wasn't accepted to score that test because I didn't pass the training. I felt like an idiot.

I only have substitute teaching experience (major in Journalism, minor in English), no teaching degree, and they took me! I'm sure, though, that I'm not getting the higher-paid assignments; that's ok, I'm happy with what I'm getting.

NikkiBell, they have a limit on the number of hours per day you can work (I think it's 10). But believe me, you won't be able to manage 10 a day unless you're an ironman. Some of it is dull as dishwater once you've seen 250 of the same essay's responses; it triggered some carpal tunnel in my wrist; and can your butt really take being in that chair for 10 hours? Mine can't! You're better off trying to get at least an hour or two each night in and then more on the weekends; plus as another poster mentioned, some projects close much earlier than expected -- you may get one weekend of 20 hours in, but by the next weekend it may be finished, and you're out of luck.

You have to be REALLY careful to follow their guidelines. I found that I had to go back and forth a lot to the examples they provide as I was scoring -- I wanted to impose my own ideas about the quality of the responses, but they're looking for some really specific things, and I can easily see how an experienced (older student) teacher could have trouble with this -- you know how kids should write, what you'd want out of your students, and if you don't set all that aside and work within Pearson's framework, you're going to have trouble.

The first night (Th) I did get a phone call from the leader about 2 of my scores. I explained why I scored them that way, and he said he understood, but still asked that I changed them. Some of it is just so subjective!

Also, I had signed up to score 28 hours, but only got 8. The other times were all canceled. I'm not upset though-nice way to make $160! And now I have next weekend free.

To those of you that are scoring, how long did it take you to get a response? I applied last spring and still haven't heard anything. I taught for 10 years and went through a lot of district/state training to score were I used to live. So I don't think it is a matter of being qualified. :confused3
