PDVDD And How To Deal With It

I have begun to plan our '10 trips, (beyond our January Marathon weekend trip) since I've been putting it off waiting for the new planner. I'm having a hard time ...I have the point charts on papers and keep having to shuffle things to compare. I'm "afraid" to go much beyond next year because now I wonder will they change the point requirements again, is that why they are waiting to send them out?

I really enjoy our DVC and our vacations. I'm afraid to talk about them at home/with friends as much as I want to, so I come here. This is where I find relief from the PDVCD!

For instance...I've tried to get ADR's at Chefs de France during this time that Remy will be around. He doesn't come on Sundays and I've two Sunday dinners planned, so I need a lunch. I've tried 4 times, no luck, but today was the charm. I was able to book a lunch on a Tuesday in June. The first thing I did was go to the Restaurant Board and posted success on a "Remy" thread. Just in case someone here doesn't know, here's the link to a post about it:

This entire thread has my name all over it!!!! I have enjoyed reading this so much....:goodvibes

DH always jokes with other people that I have our vacations planned out at least 2 years in advance (if he only knew it is more than that, shhhh don't tell him!).

As soon as I get home from one vacation I reset my vacation countdown for the next. It is the only way I have found to deal with the time in between vacations.

I am so glad I am not the only DVC insane person out there...well, at least I am in good company.;)

We all work so hard to afford our vacations, many of us are limited to just 2 or 3 weeks (Except DVC Mike, green w/envy!) and my Grandma said you always have to have something to look forward to. DVC gives me that something to look forward to, whether it's a full week or just a long week-end. I get my son's school year calendar and I plan ahead. When one trip's done, there's always another one coming up! I love my DVC!

Bobbi, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who uses that therapy. I spent most of yesterday with the point sheets and paper and pencil in hand trying to decide when we will go next year. We have a December trip booked, so I knew I wanted March. Then I couldn't decide if I wanted early or later. Early won out because the crowds seem to be less than the later part of the month. Of course, the only reason I do March anyway is because I also do Spring Training in Fort Myers! I'm thinking we will be doing only two trips next year, and the second one will be in December again. OR...;)I might do Thanksgiving again if I can talk the family into it. DH would do it again in a heart beat, but not so much the grown kiddos.

Every time my wife and I go for a walk I say, we need to talk, and she starts laughing because she knows its going to be a DVC conversation. Walking and talking with someone you love is awesome PDVCD therapy.

We are looking into a late minute DVC trip this summer. Sometimes hard to get reservations open up at the last minute. Then my son is going to Disney to march with the high school band next year so we want to be there for that. Having those points is such a help.

DW & I have each other, and our adult children, to discuss the details of DVC, but that is it. We hesitate to speak about it with the family at large since we are the only ones that are DVCers and understand the pressures of ownership. :rolleyes1

You are either into it  or your not - no middle of the road!

Lots of truth here...

Talking to non-DVC people doesn't help. I think it makes a person come off as bragging when that is the farthest thing from the truth. All you want is someone to share the magic and relive some memories.

The one thing I noticed my last trip was I enjoyed the resort more than the parks. We stayed at BCV and it really was nice walking around the lobby and pool just enjoying the surroundings.

Trust me, it only gets worse!!! We've been members since 93. Now that both DGs are in college, the planning becomes completely different. It's like DVC becomes new, all over again. We just returned from our first trip without the kids or friends and I was out of my mind within about a week on when we were going to return. I dare not mention it to my DW as we are going to Ireland in June.I checked for flights to Orlando in August. The planning helps alot. I'm glad I'm not the only one out there who goes through this.:rotfl:

What was it like going without kids? We really enjoyed it when they were young. Now that they are entering the teen years it was still great but different. I am curious what it would be like as a couple.

Did you enjoy the trip as much this time without the kids?
Was the PDVDD worse?

I for one want to say I am glad to see so many men on here love Disney. For along time, and I have no idea why either, I thought woman were the ones talking their husband's into adding on or buying a DVC. I wish I could find a man around her who even understood what it was!!! I think I will have to make that a requirement for the next person I date:rotfl2:

Anyway, I want to thank you all, because if it wasn't for all of you, I wouldn't be able to deal with my PDVDD.

Going without kids was fantastic!!!!!!! Don't get me wrong we love our DGs, but when we went solo it was like the experience was new because we were able to do things we did not want or could not to do when the girls were younger.Such as fine dining, sleeping in, etc. Then when you get home, you start thinking about all the other things you could do without the kids and you want to do them NOW!!!!!!! And don't forget, you have to get ready for traditional family trips. We are now dealing with this new phenomena by planning an addon. Points to be used just for Dad and Mom!!!!!!!

I don't want to wish away the "present" but thinking about how our points will go further when it is just my wife and I puts a smile on my face and helps with PDVCD.

Well, I hear you, but when the DGC come, there's a whole new intensity to Add-on-itis!
