Pay extra and AVOID Budget!

Its all about when your at the kiosk (maybe tired from a long day of traveling) , waiting to pick-up your car, and they spend so much time trying to convince you why you need all these extras before you sign the contract. This is the best time for them to convince you you need these things. That is why I first asked here about these extras.

Previous trip, maybe second time I have rented a car, they got me for the gas fill up. They made it sound as if we were locking in the price and would fill up after returned at that price (just the number of gallons we used). We made sure it was as empty as we would felt safe on the return. Yes, I should have read contracct more closely, out loud so others in line would have heard what was going on while they waited for me to read it. Luckily I did read it before returning the vehicle and we knew to return it as close to empty as possible.

Either way, I will not rent from that company again as they tried to sell the daily toll package too. I only needed to pay tolls for 2 days and Florida was not even charging for tolls at that time. Also, the car was a low end vehicle.

I just returned a car in Denver, and thought of this thread. I noticed that I was charged about $96 more than quoted/signed. I thought maybe it was a deposit or something and would fall off. Once it went through, I began looking into it. I was charged around $10/gallon for about 10 gallons of gas.

Something told me to take a picture of the fuel gauge when we dropped it off. I had the car off and got out of the car, but got in and turned it back on just to take the picture. I emailed the picture to show it was full, and they took the charge off. It was painless to get it taken care of. However I shouldn’t have had to do it, and luckily I snapped that picture.

I can’t help but to think how many people they do this to that don’t notice. I can maybe understand if they had to put a gallon in it, but to charge me for a little over 9 gallons of gas when the gauge was on F is such a crime. The major thing I don’t get is what is in it for the person who makes that charge? It’s not the person you rented from, so I doubt the cleaner of the car gets a cut of an upsell.

If this was a local place, I would be there in person complaining. I’m not one to do that usually but this annoyed me enough that I would.

Was this Budget or another company?

Budget. I do have to say like I said earlier on the thread I’ve never had an issue with them before (but I’m pretty good about reading the amounts charged and not signing until I make sure I’m not charged more than I’ve agreed upon). I’ve used them a handful of times, most recently in November.

I am renting more for work, but using Hertz. I am trying to get in the habit of taking a picture of the fuel gauge when I turn the car in, JUST in case. :D

Always good to be safe! I don’t even know why I did it. Never have before. I do take a walk around of the car, and pictures of any blemishes when I first get it. Now that will be added to my list of must take pictures.

I take a picture before driving off too. Sometimes the fuel gauge isn’t fully full and I’ll also tell the gate agent about it.
