Are you ready my Jewish Diser's?? :woohoo:

I ordered some stuff from Kosher.Com and I'll be shopping at Publix next week for the rest. Working on getting the chametz out of the house and will vacuum out the car just a few days before Passover.

How are the rest of you doing? :goodvibes

Like the passover image in my siggie??

Ugh. I have done absolutely nothing. Last night, I was thinking about the fact that I need to plan my menus and get a grocery list together. Wegman's had stuff on display the end of February. I thought, I have plenty of time. LOL. Now all of the sudden, it is 2 weeks away! :scared1:

not done much either.. I did buy matzo at jewels last week.. We are having the second night here.. the menu is set years ago as to who brings what.. I do the matzo ball soup, turkey breast, matzo, ice cream for dessert, my sister does salad, veggies.

choroset, whoevers house it is at does the grape juice.. My brother does Kosher wine for all of us.and Shamura matzo..I'll do the symbols plate. With Kids on spring break.. I'll do the cleaning next week..

Martha Stewart Living had some great looking Passover recipies in the March issue.

I already have done my shopping for Passover products - in my town if you don't shop early you don't get ANYTHING!

And, since Tam Tams are back on shelves this year, I made sure to grab several boxes! Yum, Tam Tams with Temptee cream cheese - best Passover-snack ever!!

I also picked up a box of Osem Kosher for Passover couscous - I think I'm going to add that to Seder this year (with some chopped zucchini, vinegar, onions, etc.)

That sounds amazing. I think I'll need to look for it.

I have an amazing recipe for a Passover Fruit & Nut Kugel if anyone wants it. I got it out of Good Housekeeping 15-20 years ago. It is still my one "must have" side dish. I generally make 2. one for Seder and one to have for breakfast during the week.

My kids favorite dish during the week is matzo pizza--sprinkle a sheet of matzo with a little water and let it set for a minute or two. Then, spread tomato sauce and cheese on top and cook at 350 until the cheese melts. :thumbsup2

I love Passover Chocolate Raspberry Torte

check out all recipes for lots of good Passover things http://allrecipes.com/Search/Recipes.aspx?WithTerm=passover

..the chocolate raspberry torte is from there too..

Ingredients:
2 cups unsalted butter
1 cup cola-flavored carbonated beverage
16 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
1/3 cup raspberry jam
1 teaspoon lemon juice
8 eggs, room temperature
1 cup white sugar
2 tablespoons vanilla sugar

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Directions:
1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line bottom of a 10 inch springform pan with parchment paper.2.In a heavy saucepan over low heat, or using a double boiler, mix butter or margarine and cola and heat through. Remove the pan from the stove and add chocolate, stirring to melt. Let this mixture cool completely.3.In a small mixing bowl, blend raspberry preserves and lemon juice together. In the bowl of an electric mixer, whip the eggs with sugar and vanilla sugar for 10 minutes on high speed. Whisk cooled, melted chocolate into egg mixture until thoroughly incorporated (mixture will deflate but that's OK). Stir in raspberry preserve mixture.4.Place the prepared springform pan on a cookie sheet in the oven and reduce the oven's heat to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Bake 55 to 60 minutes until the cake is done. The cake is done when the top has a slight crust and seems set. Cake may rise and fall but that is fine. Refrigerate the cake several hours.5.To make the glaze: Melt the chocolate chips with butter or margarine in a double boiler; stir to melt evenly. Cool, then pour over chilled cake before serving.

I bake it longer than 1 hour.. almost 1 1/2 hours..

I started to look for dessers since my oldest DS is a Passover baby.. so I needed to find cake recipes for him..

Blech. My house is still a mess and I have no food (eating up what's left). I did clean one car though.

I have to go clean now....

I'm one too! I would wait until it was over to have "real" birthday cake. :goodvibes My mom used to put a candle in a macaroon for me. :rotfl:

Thanks for the recipe. I'm going to have to try it this year.

I'm not Jewish, but my SIL is (my brother converted), and we love going to their Passover Seder. She's already started cleaning everything and getting ready. She cooks the same things every year, so not much recipe prep for her. I love how she gives us all prayer booklets and has each one at the table read a prayer for each part of the meal.

I probably will be shopping this weekend. My husband likes the cherry chocolate chunk macaroons.

Sorry I didn't know about the religious threads stuff. I was sent a private message about Easter clippies and thought it would be okay to have a Passover one in my siggie...guess not, so I deleted it. If this thread needs to be deleted, then fine. :guilty:

You CAN have the passover siggy. And you CAN talk about how you are going to celebrate holidays.

You should be fine.

Hope you have a nice holiday. I don't know much about it so I was hoping to learn something here. :)

This was my undersstanding too. We're not debating religion, we're exchanging holiday recipes and menus.

Just a honest question. Why do you have to clean the car?

During Passover, there are restrictions on what you can and cannot eat. A big one is that you cannot eat bread and anything with a leavening agent. So, part of getting ready for Passover is making sure that you do not have any of this stuff (called Chametz) in your house or car (breadcrumbs, the french fries that fall down between the seats, the breading off the chicken nugget your child ate in the car and dropped, etc.)

Here's a good explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chametz
