{I've tried using the search option to see about doing this but came up with nothing...sorry if this is a repeat}

Has anyone ever rented the partial hook-up without actually staying there. I found that is cheaper to rent a house for 10 outside the world and book the campsite for a week than say okw grand villa or separate rooms! This way we would still get all the benefits of staying on site :earsboy:

And then campers wonder why they can't get reservations at FW.

Moderator hat Off :(

When we go to WDW our first and only choice for accommodations is a campsite at fort Wilderness, its the only camping option on property, its the way we prefer to travel, so when what you propose to do happens it means we can't stay on -site, its very hard to get reservations as it is and even more frustrating when there are empty sites because someone wants the benefits of staying on-site.

This hits home for us now, we have to stay at pop Century in February and leave the rv at home because we could not get a site. :headache:[/rant]

It seems a lot of people do this, and as you can tell from the responses here, it makes other people (the ones who can't get a site) mad, understandably. I'm very surprised that Disney allows that many people on a site anyway.

Sure, go ahead and do it, but don't ask permission. :)

BTW, we have stayed offsite in a house and it's wonderful. We found we didn't need the EMH, which is the only real benefit that you'll be missing out on. Getting started early, choosing the non-emh park, etc. works just as well. You won't be able to do the evening EMH, but you can hang out at your own pool/hottub & relax.

I did not realize that this was such a problem when I posted this. The dates I'm going, there seems to plenty of bookings avail. so hopefully this will not interfere with someone elses need to book. (4/30-5/6) BTW- we do plan to camp 1 or 2 nights. We also got the dining plan with it so we benefited in that way as well. I just wish Disney accomadated large families better without costing $500+/night!

Well, according to this posters thread on the budget board. He has gone ahead and booked them both. Most on the budget board thought it was a very clever idea. Go figure. I put in my two cents, I guess that is all you can do.

I can't believe this person would post on this board thinking we would think this is a good idea. Now, of course, they validate the behavior by saying they plan on camping one or two nights. Right.

I have never found the benefits of extra hours anyway. We have done the extra hour a few times and have found more people in the park during extra hour than during the day. Now you see way camping has change it people like this. If you need a place for 10 people to stay get two campsites and stay on them. The two sites can easy hold 10 people and you will have all the benefits. You say you are going to camp 1or 2 nights just say your whole trip at FW. Do Not take site away from real campers. :confused3

I didn't even want to acknowledge this post with a reply when I first saw it, but since others have paved the way, here I go!

As others have pointed out, FW is very popular these days and hard to book at times. But, just because you think it'll be a "slower" time of year, doesn't mean the sites are up for grabs. There are only two partial hook-up loops in the entire place - last time we went we couldn't get one, even though we only tent and don't need the full hook-up. I still had to pay the full price, because the partials were all booked up. So, when I see someone wanting to "hijack" one of those sites simply for some perks, yes, it gets me mad!!

FW ought to patrol the loops a couple times a day and see which sites are empty even though "booked!!"

you would think that if they saw a site that was booked but empty they would check them out ( and not give them their $$ back ) and rebook it to someone who would use it and make twice as much.

TOTALLY AGREE!!!!!

There's nothing more maddening than seeing an empty site that is "booked" for this purpose. There ought to be some way that Disney can curtail this practice. While it might be totally legal to do it, it is not fair to others that need the site for the purpose that it was intended - which is CAMPING.

I hate to defend Disney, but, sometimes people pay for a site & can't make the original date, and come in a day or two after the arrival date so the site may look empty but someone will come in and take that site. I have also seen people that camp in their pick-up and be gone all day... the site still looks empty, but people are leaving early in the morning and staying out late. To rent a site for perks really makes me mad. We try hard enough to get a site as it is.

The ones who will really be hurt are perhaps the young families, camping in a tent or popup, who are relying on this time for their vacation because the kids may be off from school, and don't have the luxury of being able to afford a camp site and an off site house just for the benefits. The campsite is their vacation, and this spot is now being taken by a self serving individual who claims they can't afford to stay onsite, but can afford to rent an offsite home AND a campsite.

I think hezell123 should keep an eye on the boards, and as the time approaches for their trip, if they see that campers are unable to book because it is full, they should do the noble thing and cancel the unused campsite. Bet it doesn't happen - sure would be a shame to give up those extra magic hours, wouldn't it.

I think if the OP has the $$$ and makes the ressies its theirs to do with as they see fit. No one has to like it or agree with it.

It just so happens that Disney does have an affordable place on-site for a family of 10 -- Ft Wilderness campgrounds. You can have up to 10 people per site though you have to watch your equipment. We have a 24' camper that supposedly sleeps 10 but realistically sleeps maybe 8 comfortably. Our other 2 sleep on the bed in the van we use to pull the camper. We do have to pay 2 or 3 dollars extra per adult but to us it is worth it.

Taking up a space that a family of 10 could be using so that your family of 10 can stay off property but use the benefits is not a very nice thing to do. Cancel the condo and stay in the space the entire time or cancel the space and stay in the condo.

The extra magic hours aren't that worth it to hurt others chances for their magical vacation.

:cool1: I knew this thread would get ugly. Ranks right up there with pool-hopping, missing school, and refillable mugs.

Enjoy your non-stay at WDW hezell123.

I've had to delete a post because of profanity, and now this thread is getting ugly. OP got their answer, and they can choose to do what they want with the information. I'm locking the thread.
