Park Hopper Rumor

Are basing that idea off of the theory that they would just cram the current PH price onto the base ticket price? I doubt they would do that - it would scare off too many people. Rather, I suspect that they would run the following calculation

$PHPrice*(tickets with PH added/(total tickets sold))=$PHValue
$PHValue/total tickets sold=$MinimumPriceIncrease
$CurrentMYWBase+$MinimumPriceIncrease+$PROFIT!!=$NewMYWBase

I agree with this analysis, and they could turn it into a great marketing campaign -- "Now, all guests have access to all four major theme parks for one price!"

So next year's price increase might be $10 for a one-day base ticket, but they will tout how much more you're getting for that minimal increase.

There's no way I'd believe that until I saw it. PH'ing is just extra $$$ for WDW.

But..... free dining isn't really free, because you have to pay rack rate for the room & buy 2 days of tickets from Disney instead of from a discounter. There go your savings.

I totally agree with that. Especially since they removed appetizer and tip from the plans. The first time I had the dining plan, it included tip and appetizer, it was way more food than we'd normally eat, but hey... it was easy and convenient and definitely a deal, hands down. Now that you have to pay separately for the tip, you're convenience is out the window, whether or not you care about the appetizer. Personally, I could eat the appetizer and dessert and skip the entree! ::yes::

I have not bought tickets from a discounter before! I was not in the know about this...:sad2: but my sister just got her tickets from undercover tourist. This round we have DVC AP's, so if we're staying in a DVC resort, we qualify for the DVC dining plan (its never free). We tried it once, but my DH just doesn't like having to chase reservations.

One trip, we had all 5 of us, and we did the Spirit of Aloha dinner show and at least 1 character meal. I carefully saved all our receipts and added them up... would you believe it was a complete wash!! :laundy: The difference between what we paid to eat at our leisure and what it would have cost us had we done standard dining plan was less than $1.00. :scared1: Now, maybe with the dining plan we'd have eaten more... but I really don't think we need to.... :sad2:

As others have mentioned, I could see them going to all passes being hoppers. Wasn't it that way at one time?

They certainly know what percentage of passes are hoppers vs. non-hoppers so they know exactly how the math works out. I'd be willing to bet that a small increase to everyone nets more profit than whatever percent pays extra for the hopping option.

What would be nice is to go to all non-expiring tickets again.

Maybe this is a glimpse of what was meant by "major promos/discounts will be going away after this year". Returning to the days of more value for your dollar vs. less dollars and shrinking value. Kind of a backdoor way of raising prices.

Magic Your Way began on Jan 2, 2005.

For 2005 packages booked in 2004, guests could choose whether they wanted the original kind of tickets (length of stay tickets) or MYW base tickets.

Over the years (2005 on) there have been a few resort package promotions where you got "free" hopping and/or "free" water park fun.

I loved the Length of Stay passes!!! I remember running around WDW in high school with my best friend going from park to park and typhoon lagoon day in and day out!

Ever since MYW we've mostly bought base tickets. When we never realized the cost of park hopping it was great. Once my husband saw the sticker shock of the park hopper add on a few years ago...hopping was over. Lately, we decided to hop once again since he and I have APs. We have bought hoppers for the kids. I just told him about the new $54 for 2011 since our APs will be expired. We are still debating whether to hop or not. The baby is free, but for the rest of us it's $270 + tax to hop. I wish we didn't have the option honestly! Out of site out of mind works better for DH! I'm hoping for length of stay to come back in the future! :wizard:

This is one of the major reasons I don't do the DDP - so I can get appetizer & dessert, or 2 appetizers or . . .

There were problems with the "length of stay" tickets, too. We used to get to Disney at 7 or 8 PM, so didn't need a ticket for that day, but we had to pay for it anyway. Also on the day of departure. (I'm not sure, but I believe that the number of days, not number of nights defined the "length of stay" tickets.) We always had to figure out our flights to correspond with the ticket length. And I think that the tickets weren't so heavily front-loaded back then.

They can't please everyone, no matter what they do!

At least if any changes happen you know that someone on the DISboards will keep us updated :thanks:
