On the earstoears yahoogroup this morning, a member mentioned that her co-worker said she'd heard that this next year would be the last that Disney offered park hopping! :scared1: Has anyone heard this? Is this true? I sure hope not.

I can't even begin to imagine any reason at all why they would do away with that. No benefit to Disney at all that I can think of - just a loss of a revenue stream.

I think this definitely belongs on the rumors board.

I can't see that being remotely true since Di$ney makes $54 off the park hopping option. :confused3

I think this is one of those internet rumors that in a week's time no one will even remember. No reason to do away with it. Makes too much sense for Disney to offer it.

That's got to be false info. There's no logical reason to get rid of park hoppers and it would actually cost Disney money to do so. Not going to worry about this one.

Well there is one reason - increase the cost of the tickets to INCLUDE park hopping. Then everyone pays for it whether they use it or not!

But isn't that how they were before introducing the current modular MYW ticket structure (all length of stay I think and all included park hopping). They specifically went to the MYW tickets structure where guests can pick & choose the options they want, so I don't see them going back to the previous method.

But yes, you're right - only if they increased all ticket prices to include hopping could I see it making any sense for Disney.

That's what I was thinking. They may get rid of the base ticket to include park hopping and call that the bast ticket.

That was my first thought, too.

One good thing, it would stop the "can I use two days in on day to park hop" questions.

That is exactly what it was like when they first introduced the World Passport in 1982. You could still buy single day tickets but if you bought multiple days (I think it was 3 or 4 back then) it was automatically a hopper, as we know it. Course, there was only the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT Center at the time.

You could also buy used tickets "off site" back then too. No foolproof way of proving that they didn't belong to you. Oh, yea! the were also non-experational. Good Times!

I still don't see how that would be beneficial for Disney. I would have to cut down on the number of days purchased as people combined more then one park per day to cut down on expenses. I vote for rumor!

Now that's a benefit I'd pay for :rotfl:

Some of us oldies thought it was annoying when they separated park hopping from the tickets, making it LOOK like a benefit but in reality just making you pay for something that used to be included. Just like they increased the ticket requirement from one day to two for Free Dining, they are most likely looking for ways to pick up up-front guaranteed cash from visitors.

Remember when you used to buy length-of-stay tickets if you didn't buy them from a separate reseller or at the gate? I wish they'd go back to that for stays longer than 10 days. If you're staying onsite, you SHOULD be able to buy 14 day tickets or whatever you need.

Yes but I remember back in the day there was a point with LOS passes that it was cheaper to purchase an AP. So even with LOS coming back, for 14 days an AP would be cheaper.

I can believe it based on what the previous posters have said, but a $54 base-ticket increase in one year? That's gotta be some kind of record.

I certainly hope this is just a rumor, my next Disney World trip is planned for September of 2012 and I hope this ticket option will still be available then.

IF this is true, I would agree with the previous posters regarding making all tickets park hoppers.

BUT considering that CMs do not even know what next year's promotion (ie Give a Day, Get a Day) will be, I suspect ticket info at this stage is just speculation. And CMs do NOT know ahead of time what the 2011 promotion will be,, I had a tour guide 2 weeks ago and she told us that CMs find out when we the public finds out.

Are basing that idea off of the theory that they would just cram the current PH price onto the base ticket price? I doubt they would do that - it would scare off too many people. Rather, I suspect that they would run the following calculation

$PHPrice*(tickets with PH added/(total tickets sold))=$PHValue
$PHValue/total tickets sold=$MinimumPriceIncrease
$CurrentMYWBase+$MinimumPriceIncrease+$PROFIT!!=$NewMYWBase

I'm not a long term DIS researcher, so I can't make any guess on what percentage of tickets sold ever get the PH added, nor the number of tickets sold (note that this total is tickets only - not APs). But, I suspect it would be enough that some would cringe while most cheered the lower cost of adding PH.

The 40% off code this year was being given out by CM's over the phone before Disney even made it available to the public. Everyone thought they had a magic pin attached to their name but it ended up being the generic code. Some things are made aware, others are "surprises". That is how Apple operates as well.
