Parents of the High School Class of 2017/College 2021

Just a repeat reminder: If your son or daughter was adopted internationally, PLEASE be sure that they have either a current passport or a Certificate of Citizenship.

I KNOW they're already citizens, thanks to the Child Citizenship Act. But the FAFSA paperwork hasn't caught up with the law, and you'll need one of those two documents to file FAFSA.

My daughter got accepted to Case Western University with a very nice merit scholarship that equals 45% of the tuition. Now if only her 1st choice does the same . . .

Congratulations to all of those receiving acceptances.

Our son received his acceptance to UCLA last night. I am a little surprised.

This was more of a vanity application but we may visit on April 15 depending on the results of his remaining applications.

Congrats to both your kids!!!!!!

You're right, we had to submit dd's passport and one school asked for her social security card.

We chose to get dd a passport when she was a baby and have renewed it continually. She now has a 10 year one. However, given the current climate in this country (don't want to get political) I think we're going to spend the $1000 and get her a COC. I just worry about her out in the world as an adult without us.

Congratulations to everyone with good news today!

Our news is not so good. My DD went from being deferred to being waitlisted at Wisconsin which is now her #1 choice. They are going to hold her in limbo until June. If she's accepted she will have to choose from the undesirable leftovers in housing and won't be able to arrange for a roommate as easily as she could now. She's crushed.

We are still waiting for Minnesota's decision in the next couple weeks. Im hoping that their money grab from OOS may open up a spot for her. I don't know where it stands right now on her list.

We will go forward with Iowa State as her #2 school. We already put down a deposit which we will lose if Wisconsin comes to scratch. She wants to go there but she wanted it to be an active choice over Wisconsin.

Part of me wanted her to be a Badger like her father and me. It's a great school with many fine student traditions. The other part wants her to move away for college and not be literally down the street (the UW is less than 5 mikes away from our house).

My daughter heard back from BC and was waitlisted. Since she applied back in Oct she has changed her mind and was no longer interested. She was accepted at Syracuse and given $25,000 per yr but still comes to more than $38K per yr. She received her acceptance to FSU and got an out of state tuition waiver and a freshman scholarship but is still holding out for Temple. They offered just $5,000 per yr and we have sent in an appeal based on her newer ACT score of 33. It's been 18 days of waiting on this appeal:( Her Birthday is on Sunday and she leaves for her FL senior trip next Monday so it would be awesome to hear back about the appeal before then so she can breathe and enjoy her trip.:worship:

Sorry your news isn't what you'd hoped for. Hopefully things will work out. My DD is currently waitlisted at two schools and it stinks to be in limbo like that!

If he doesn't want to go, my son can take his spot and get off the waitlist. ;) Congrats to your son!

I'm sorry, Robin. We are in the same boat. DS got waitlisted yesterday to his #1 choice (UCLA) as well. We feel like hostages at this point. We will go ahead and SIR to his #2 and lose the deposits if he makes it off the waitlist.

I'm sorry for your DD!
I hope that Iowa or Minnesota is a good fit for her.

This college stuff is truly exhausting some days....

The email indicated 104,000 applications. I cannot imagine that each one is vetted. This may be one of those instances where only a few from our state applied and since they want national representation his competition was limited to South Carolinians.

Also, as others have indicated, Boston University sent out acceptances today. He made it in but has all but eliminated BU.
