Parents of the High School Class of 2017/College 2021

Where did you find out the info on your dd's top choice not taking the current SAT? My dd took it in October and got amazing scores - thank goodness since tutoring cost $$$$. She's done as far as we're concerned but your post has me concerned. We were told by the hs guidance office that schools would accept the old and new format.

I feel for all of you with kids having a rough year. That was dd last year. So far things are off to a very good start. She has more AP classes than last year but is managing things much better and has more reasonable teachers. She got accepted into national honor society which made her very happy.
DD went to a VT admissions meeting last month. She told me what she heard and I double checked it with the school. It does sound like VT is a rare case, but you might want to double check with the schools on your child's list just to be sure.

Junior year is half over. Midterms next week. DS is taking the ACT again tomorrow. Hoping for a 3-5 point increase from Spring and I'm not sure it's possible. How is everyone's college planning going?

Our Jr. is the 3rd child we've recently prepared for college. (Oldest 's is a senior 2nd son is a college freshman.) So we've already visited the nearby schools with those 2 and this son went with us.

After just getting #2 settled in at college, I am dragging my feet about visits and saying-- "you've been there already. Just pick one!" lol. We'll probably go do visits again for this son in the summer.

Our Jr. Is also taking the ACT in the morning. It's been a couple of years. So hope he'll improve by a few points too. He's at a place where every point helps for scholarships. He'll take it again in February and maybe June depending on scores.

We just got the mid-term schedule, the end of January here. My daughter took 2- SAT 2 subject tests in Dec and in Jan she will be taking the SAT again (she took one in Nov.), and I believe in March or May and the ACT in April. She was not happy with her SAT score and honestly I don't know all that much about SAT scores but people I talked to said it wasn't bad for her first time, she got an 1850

ACT scores just came out for the December 12th test. Anyone else have a kid who took that test? My son will be taking it again. He needs another 2-4 points for his reach schools.

I'm waiting for my son's ACT score to be posted. He needs a 3-5 point increase from Spring. Wish it would post already.

DD is taking her first SAT in January and taking the ACT in April (I believe that is the month)
I just booked her plane ticket for Boston, she and her BFF accompanied by the BFF's Grandmother are going to go tour Harvard, MIT, U-Mass, Hampshire and a few other colleges I can't remember. They are so excited. These are completely reach schools but I think the tour is worth the time and money. One of DD's friends was just accepted to MIT, I think his teachers are more excited than he is :)

We are going to Boston Feb 16th and touring Harvard, Northeastern, MIT and Boston University! Its not that far from us so we will just take Amtrak. In April we are touring two in Florida-they are number 11 and 12 of her list of 12 she would like to go to but we will be in Florida anyway so might as well just take a look at them.

ACT score was finally posted online. DS needs one more point so will take it again. Was really hoping this would be the last time.

I hear ya. My DS will be taking it again. Hopefully just one more time.

So how did everyone do on the PSAT? DD did much better than anticipated given that the test structure changed. She has a shot at being a National Merit Scholar if the cutoff range for NJ is what's being predicted. Of course we've traditionally had the highest one in the entire country so who knows.

Stupid college board site is telling me that they have no record of her test. I am not happy.

Looks like ds did well too. Seems to have the highest score in his school. He's now obsessing over what his score might really mean. And is scouring all the websites that are giving predictions on how the new scoring will shape up.

Hope for him it works out. It could be a great opportunity!

Sorry. Double post.

Isn't your daughter a senior? Why would she have taken the PSAT? Anyway, I hope you get it figured out.
I've got a senior in the midst of college applications and a junior (long story, but my niece is living with me now) who is waiting for her psat results. I have to go through this nonsense two years in a row.

Oh no, you're going to need a spa visit after its all over!! Has anyone else from your niece's HS not gotten scores? If so maybe the school can do something. Good luck. I can only imagine how stressed your niece must feel.

Actually, she's not that stressed. She did not think she did that we'll, so I doubt she's anywhere close to our state cutoff. It's basically a throw away to get her used to the test. I'm signing her up for the next sat. That , she's anxious about.
