Parents of the High School Class of 2017/College 2021

Not yet- School doesn't end until the last week of June so still have another month before that stuff happens! Jr Prom was last night and they had a blast there- they leave all the decorations up and today the honor society hosts a bunch of senior citizens for a spring party. The kids all had to bring a half tray of food and bottle of soda, they had a DJ and the kids all danced with, as they said, "the old people"- there was SO much grumbling going on today because they all had to get up and be there by 11 and they just got home from prom after parties after 2am but then we all started getting texts from the kids "this is great, I am dancing with these cute old people" - my friends daughter texted her "this is better than the Jr Prom" LOL- so young and old had a good time!
That is such a spectacular idea! My kids used to do that on New Years Eve. A good family friend of ours was a director of a nursing home. He and his wife had six kids. They would invite all the kids' friends and their families to the early New Year's Eve party at the nursing home. We would all visit with and dance with the residents. It really helped the party vibe along. It was tons of fun!

DD received her ACT score - 30
She took the writing portion and scored only a 21
every other area was much higher, her reading score was 34, Math was 28
Does the writing count or is it something that is a side option like on the new SAT?
I honestly have not done a lot of research on the subject, I'm just curious

This was her first ACT with no prep, she was pleased with the results but now that she has taken it once, she wants to take it again to see if she can improve on it

All schools dd is looking at just focus on the composite score, which is the 30. That's a good score. Dd only took the old SAT so I don't know about the writing question you're asking about. She lucked out with a really good score that pits her at the top of the range at the schools she's looking at. She has no desire to take the ACT or new SAT.

We are back out dress shopping again tonight- Jr prom was last week and the boy my daughter went with is senior so now he invited her to his senior prom!

In my girls school, juniors invited to senior prom wear short dresses. Only senior girls wear long.

Both are really pretty. Where did you find the long one? I think your dd is tiny like mine so it would be good to know for next year.

All the girls wear long for prom but the senior girls tend to wear more elaborate gowns, frilly, sequuinsine

Its a local place, not sure if its a chain or not- Estelles Dressy Dresses in Farmingdale, NY. It was great buy- 69.00! After prom she wants to get it altered into a short dress. She is small so its hard to find dresses- a size 1/2 is giant on her- she needs a 00. And she is short -under 5'1" so everything has to be taken up.

Love the dresses - the gown is gorgeous! Hope she has a great time
My DD has no interest in going to Prom :(
Good thing my older DS did all those things so we got to experience some of the excitement

Thanks, I doubt we'll make a trip to long Island but I'll check it out online. Our dd's are the same size. Our seamstress did an amazing job on dd's junior prom dress. It was a 1 and you wouldn't realize how too big it was on her to begin with.

Very pretty and a good price!

We're on the next-to-last day of school. Track is over and homework has been over for a few days, so DD hardly knows what to do with herself. She has decided not to quit running (usually she doesn't really run from end of track through December). So she has run on our country roads twice this week and hopes to get on the track frequently over the summer. She has also had time to draw, and she's happy to be back to that. Work starts 6/1.

Is she thinking about Cross Country in the fall?

Is she thinking about Cross Country in the fall?

No, cross country has not worked out for her. One year she started their summer camp and her feet just blistered all over the bottom. Another year she thought she'd try again and the same thing happened. And we tried new shoes and socks and all that, she gets her shoes at a place where they watch you run on a treadmill to determine what you need. Her feet get along fine with track...don't know if it's the warmer weather or the distance or what. She's decided it's just too much distance and wear and tear on her body. She loved the kids on the team and would have liked to make it work.

The school calendar for our district was just posted today for next year. We now know what day my girls will graduate next year - June 2! It's starting to really hit home - I'm sure the year will fly by so fast, too! Exciting and nerve wracking all at the same time!

My DD still has this last week of school plus finals next week. It's all looking pretty good, except she allowed her French 4 grade to slip to a "B".

Anyones kids taking this weeks SAT2? My daughter is taking 2 SAT2's this Saturday and then the ACT again next week and that is it- done with all this testing! The May SAT scores wont even be out until mid June!
