Parents of the High School Class of 2017/College 2021

Anyones kids taking this weeks SAT2? My daughter is taking 2 SAT2's this Saturday and then the ACT again next week and that is it- done with all this testing! The May SAT scores wont even be out until mid June!

Last day of school is Friday. His brain is fried, so no SAT this Saturday. He will have a week to recuperate, then take the ACT again next week. I need to check to see if the fall 2016 SAT dates are out yet. He should probably take it one more time.

Our state testing (the SOLs) is over, AP exams are over. There may be a class or two that actually have a final exam, but most don't if you took the SOL or AP exam. Things are winding down. Student Council elections are happening soon. I think DD wants to run for school spirit leader. That would be a great fit for her. Softball season just ended, and she made 2nd Team All Conference for outfield! It looks like she will pull a B for the year in AP Chem - her hardest class. I am really happy for her because she had a C for the first semester and worked really hard to get that grade up this last semester. Over all she's had a great year! This summer we'll put her in either an SAT or ACT prep class to get those scores up a few points. We also have to visit a few more colleges this summer. She got a terrific job as a camp counselor for our county's elementary school summer camp program. Then it's on to senior year and college applications…I can't believe it!

Yes - my daughters are doing the same thing - will be a long 2 weeks! Will be glad when it's over.

Saturday is the last ACT ( I HOPE!) that my daughter will be taking- glad these things will be over! She just went and changed her schedule for next year again, she found out that a really bad teacher is teaching AP Stats next year so she dropped that and changed to AP Art History. It so funny because I have friends that are teachers there and they all said he is horrible to so I will take their word for it.
This week is the last week of real school- after this they go in two or three days for just an hour or two to take whatever regents test they need to take for 11th grade.
After this its just getting ready for Summer at Brown- I actually went 2 weeks ago and traded in my old as dirt van (got it when my daughter was 3) and bought a brand new Toyota camry so I could be sure I would have a dependable car to drop her in Rhode Island this summer and college next year- well I had the car two weeks and I was parked in a empty parking lot Friday waiting for my daughter to get out of work and this big pick up truck parked in the row behind me (only two cars in the entire lot)- and when he left he slammed into the back of my car- put his trailer hitch through my bumper and unbelievable did $5,000 in damage to my car!! I cried for 2 days LOL. Yesterday his insurance company called and said they accept 100% liability so they are covering repairs my deductible, and also paying for a rental car for as long as it takes to fix my car. Seems for some reason I did not add rental car on my own insurance so glad they are covering it! I'm still pissed I didn't even make a payment on the darn car yet!!

Today is my DD's last final of the year in French 4.

I think she's going to come out with a 3.66 average which will bump her overall GPA over that magic 3.5 percentage. I am especially proud of her "A" in Algebra 3. She worked her TAIL off for that "A" and did extra credit and met with a tutor, all of which contributed to her pulling up her 3rd quarter "B" to a semester ending "A". This is especially impressive since she started her HS Math Journey with a "C" in Algebra 1 and a "B" and "C" in Geometry. She'll be taking AP Calculus AB next semester.

She was thinking about taking AP Euro History or AP Environmental Sciences but I think she's going to back down a bit on harder classes. She's also taking Human Anatomy & Physiology and French 5 to round out her 4 years of foreign language. The leaves her 6 semesters of easier/fun classes and she'll be taking Personal Finance (I *love* this choice!), and I think she's taking 2 semesters of "fun" English classes.

No ACT Saturday- we're going to Disney! If she retakes it will be in the fall. I would like to see it 2 points higher. We are a week and a half into summer vacation already. She loves her new job working for an attorney and it really is a perfect fit. She enjoys the organizing aspect, and the fact that she doesn't have to answer the phone or deal with the public appeals to her quiet side. This experience might steer her toward thinking about some sort of business major, perhaps. We've been trying to think of something other than Art, since she's thinking she may want to keep that as just a hobby and draw whatever she wants (basically Disney characters!) instead of making it a job.

My DD took AP Euro sophomore year and AP Environmental this year. She said AP Euro was hard (so much information) but AP Environmental was pretty easy. Maybe your DD could take one of the two vs both?

Thanks! I'll let her know about that :).

DS is taking the ACT again right now. He needs 1 point but 3 points would be amazing. I know there is nothing I can do about it but I'm praying hard. Really hope this is the last time he has to take it.

My DD is also at the ACT right now.

Sounds like the career/personality tests aren't that great. It's just so hard to guide her when she has no idea what she wants to do. That's why we are just telling her to pick a school that have a few options that she thinks she may be interested in. That way if she decides to change her major she doesn't have to change schools as well.

My girls (twins) are taking the SAT exam this Saturday and then will start studying for the ACT. I've been paying for them to have a private tutor because neither of them are very good at test taking at all. They've been spending all their time so far on SAT. Now they have to start preparing for ACT. Ugh!

My Dd goes to a private school and a parent there is a psychologist and as a "give back" to the community he offered to do a 2 hour test eval on anyone interested. DD sure was. It was fascinating, it really was. Nailed her personality down perfectly and offered job career ideas along with tons of info on each one. I think if someone paid for this it had to have been 400.00. So detailed. At any rate, very much worth her time b/c the fields she tested best for were exactly the ones she expressed interest in over the years so at least that was some validation that you might be good at what you like.

My son fought us tooth and nail about taking the ACT-said he didn't need it since he got a 1530 on the SAT. If he happens to get a 35 on ACT, we think that says a lot. He is taking it right now too.

Good luck to everyone's DDs/DSs taking the ACT today! I work in higher education so I know how stressful these days are :sad2:

Just wanted to pop in and see how the testing is going with the new SAT, if anyone has questions about admissions processes I can definitely offer some advice. Good luck to everyone senior year

My DD is also taking the ACT again today. She had finals last week and studied for the ACT for about ... an hour. *sigh*

DD took ACT today, it would be great if for the last time. She meet with an ACT tutor a couple of times during the last month ( no sessions during finals week). First two weeks of school vacation she babysit every day but two days. I had her not bbsit Friday before ACT, so she could chill, she sent me a text she wore her disney ears all day - cause she was on vacation. As soon as she finished ACT test she drove to an all day bbsit job. $10/hr the peeps she sits for gave her a raise!

She has two trips, with school FFA this summer. And one week at U of I Urbana for engineering. Talked her into physics with a new teacher for her senior year and she is taking AP stats cause she wants to. She will mostly bbsit all the other days this summer.

I assume that's out of 1600. That's a fantastic score. My dd got an equivalent score on the old SAT (including a perfect math score) and was adamant that she was one and done. Why we're you pushing your son to taking the ACT if he did so well on the SAT? Just curious.

My DS also took the ACT on Saturday! He needs 3 more points to reach his goal. I'm not sure if he will be able to get that much of an increase. If not, he will take it again in September.
He said he was "in the zone" for reading, but he thought English was harder than usual. We were counting on reading and English to be higher to balance out his science and math...not sure if that will be the case now.
We would love for him to be done. Scores on mulitple choice should start to be posted next Tues 6/21.
