Why do you think McCain campaign staffers are thowing SP under the bus?

I don't intend for this to be a thread bashing Palin. I would like to know people's theories on why this is happening.

I don't know, it's just bizzare. There's always a little finger pointing and blaming going on after an unsuccessful campaign, but I've never seen or heard anything like this before. Either the staffers have some major sour grapes (as in, they're lying) or they were bursting at the seams to tell the world how bad a pick she was and they're finally free to do so. Usually the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Well there were reports of her "going rogue", and that was when that ticket was going up in the polls.

That Katie Couric interview was very harmful to the campaign, and if it is true that she refused any PREP for it and then blamed the staff for how bad it went... If I was on that staff I would be upset.

I'm not sure it's not just the media trying to discredit Palin as much as they can. She tended to energize the conservative repubs and the more they beat her down the more likely she is to stay out of the public eye. Anything they can do to keep a repub out of the white house in 4 years.

The party elite weren't happy with the choice to begin with, and feel that she's an easy target now. The funny thing to me is that John McCain wouldn't have gotten my vote without her.

I was thinking the same thing.

What confuses me is that even if what they're saying is true, saying it only makes them look bad for choosing and promoting her. :confused3

I was especially shocked to see the comment about the Palin's being "Wasilla Hillbillies" looting Neman's from coast to coast. Isn't this from the campaign that championed Joe the plummer? That sounds like an elitist statement from people who claim to be anti-elitist.

It was Fox News that reported it. I can't imagine they would want to alienate their conservative audience.

I expect we'll hear JM defending her soon. He was quick to take heat off even his opponent's sleazy business partners and terrorist playmates. JM should set things straight about Palin soon.

Exactly! I first heard about it the other morning on the TV and thought "Wow, how did the TV get on MSNBC?" Then I checked and it was on Fox!

I saw that segment on Fox News yesterday morning. I was pretty shocked by what they were saying. Sounds like McCain's people are totally blaming Palin. I have to admit that I voted for Obama and was definitely not a Palin fan. Even I felt the stories coming out were pretty harsh. If what they are saying is true, then what the heck was McCain thinking when he picked her?:confused3

Well the campaign was a mess. The ones throwing her under the bus want to work again so they are pointing the finger at her is my theory.

I have seen reports that a lot of the negative stuff is coming from former Romney staffers who joined the McCain staff after he won the nomination. This man be just another rumor but it makes sense because they could see Palin as a threat to Romney in 2012.

That was my thinking too. :confused3 It makes no sense.

It just goes to show they are not so one-sided as you've been led to believe. O'Reily's guests are all over the political spectrum and he's not a "down-the-line" conservative either. The only really unbalanced show is Hannityand Colmes. Hannity pretty much picks the topics and point of view. But they are both commentators and not reporters and the show needs to be judged with Hardball (Chris Mathews) and Olberman's show. Most all the other shows are fairly well balanced.

Anyway, I can't figure out the sniping. Hopefully the cowards doing it will be found out and never be allowed to work Republican politics again. My cousin, who worked on the campaign, said that as soon as the clothes issue came up some low level staffer should have stood up and said, "I bought the clothes and not her." She thinks Palin was very much ill-served by the McCain people.

I feel both sides are to blame in this matter....sarah palin was clearly not ready by any stretch for this type of campaign. Her knowledge gaps where evident through just the limited media access she allowed.

The campaign should be ashamed of themselves for not doing a better job vetting her. It was a cynical pick aimed at women. Contrary to what many think, the office of president and vice president is a whole other world from governor of alaska...and education does play a role. Just on education alone palin did not measure up.

Have you caught that FOX morning program lately....Fox makes a cartoon of itself. at least MSNBC does not pretend to be something it is not. Olbermann and Maddow are liberals. Joe Scarborough is not, and david gregory is a reporter....by claiming it is fair and balanced it makes a mockery of itself.

Carl Cameron is a reporter. I hold him to a different standard them O'reilly, Hannity, or Olbermann.

No, have never seen the morning show. But it's no less balanced than any other network. I recommend you read the book "Bias" by Bernie Goldberg. He's a former CBS reporter.
