I think it's also possible that these were staffers who didn't like Palin as the pick from the start. They probably want to do as much damage as they can so that she won't have a chance in four years. The problem is that the American public's memory isn't nearly as long as it used to be and our attention spans are collectively short. No one will care about this in a month and when the next election happens this whole row will be nothing more than an unpleasant footnote.
I would feel tempted to denigrate Palin if I were in the McCain staff's position. She was a choice designed to appeal to a certain segment of the Republican party. Period. Beyond that, she was an awful choice. I voted for McCain, but I think I'd vote to reelect Barack Obama before I'd ever cast a vote for Sarah Palin in 2012.

Palin injected some excitement and life into the ticket. DH and I had many discussions about this in the past few months. I thought his campaign was run quite poorly; they truly were all over the place. There was no clear direction.
