Palin Under the Bus

I think it's also possible that these were staffers who didn't like Palin as the pick from the start. They probably want to do as much damage as they can so that she won't have a chance in four years. The problem is that the American public's memory isn't nearly as long as it used to be and our attention spans are collectively short. No one will care about this in a month and when the next election happens this whole row will be nothing more than an unpleasant footnote.

I would feel tempted to denigrate Palin if I were in the McCain staff's position. She was a choice designed to appeal to a certain segment of the Republican party. Period. Beyond that, she was an awful choice. I voted for McCain, but I think I'd vote to reelect Barack Obama before I'd ever cast a vote for Sarah Palin in 2012.

I voted Obama, but depending on how he does during the next 4 years...

Although I don't care for her personally, and I never supported her, I'm really beginning to feel bad for her. They used her like a pawn to suit their purpose, and now they're tossing her aside. It's despicable. :sad2:

Regardless of who leaked this "information", they just need to leave her alone.
I doubt any of this is true.

I have read different places that it is coming from ex Romney workers also. If that is the source, it really makes me, a BIG Romney supporter, very down on him and his people.

It does make sense that the Romney people would be trying to take Palin off the table for 2012 and make Romney the natural choice.

I really like Mitt Romney but he is NO Sarah Palin in terms of charisma, name recognition or national appeal.

Also, when Sarah gave her speech at the Republican National Convention she was fabulous. After that, the McCain camp started controlling her and that is when things started to go bad for her.

I understand her going "rouge" because she realized in the final weeks of the campaign that McCain wasn't going to win and that she was becoming nothing more than a late night joke. Palin has enough natural political instinct to know she had to protect herself at that point and thus the "rogue" behavior. It is called political survival.

I think with the stories that have come out about her since Tuesday that she was right. The McCain campaign was the problem all along. The way they have thrown her under the bus is disgusting and makes a part of me happy that McCain didn't win (but only a small part of me) If this is how him and his people have decided to treat her in the wake of THEIR defeat, he didn't deserve the job to begin with.

Okay. The Romney staffers theory makes sense. Perhaps they already felt a little betrayed because Romney was passed over for Palin. Then, when they started working with her, they got really mad because she wasn't nearly as knowledgeable as Romney. That would explain them dumping on her so much. I'm sure the Africa/NAFTA allegations are probably exaggerations. But if they were angry and felt she was unqualified, it would explain a lot.

She has become their scapegoat. They can disparage her all they want, but they should be very careful. Ultimately, McCain and his campaign staff are the ones that will look like poo. It's in extremely poor taste and totally unprofessional to do what they're doing. :headache:

We were never excited over McCain. :confused3 Palin injected some excitement and life into the ticket. DH and I had many discussions about this in the past few months. I thought his campaign was run quite poorly; they truly were all over the place. There was no clear direction.:sad2: It's almost like his campaign staff was working toward not getting McCain elected. I don't know.:confused3

I tend to agree with these thoughts by a few above posters!!!

The one thing that I didn't like about Romney was the fact that he seemed so damned 'elitiest', born with a silver spoon in his mouth... Born into political royalty, etc... Not just the facts of his background, but that his attitude always seemed to show... :scared:

To those who mention that this comment sounds 'elitist', they are correct... And it would seem to have Romney and his staffers stamp all over it.

There is NO way on God's green earth I can imagine John McCain, or anyone close to him who has similar viewpoints EVER in a million years using a term like 'Wassilla Hillbilly'.... Not a snowball's chance in hell.

Whomever is doing this is despicable, and they know it...
As far as I am concerned, unless some names can be mentioned here, and it is all secrecy and 'heresay', then it is all a pile of whooey, and is NOT news.

But then, there is no such thing as journalistic integrity, is there.
Pretty obvious lately.

So many things to say.....just so many. My bottom line is...

Palin was a right winger and was supposed to deliver her base. She did that. I have to give her credit for that.

McCain did not deliver his. The moderates fell away from him.

He is getting a beating from the moderates and Palin is an easy target.

I'm another who has read the recent "anonymous sources" are Romney staffers who joined the McCain campaign in late summer early fall. Romney by the way, is already taking steps to reactivate is Campaign committees for the 2012 election. If this rumor is true, these are not people without an agenda.

Another seems to be that Nicole Wallace who had a real axe to grind after she was reassigned from the McCain staff to Palin. The rumors state that she considered it a demotion to be put on the 2nd team, and was disgruntled from the Convention on.

I'm not sure it's not just the media trying to discredit Palin as much as they can. She tended to energize the conservative repubs and the more they beat her down the more likely she is to stay out of the public eye. Anything they can do to keep a repub out of the white house in 4 years.

Caught a bit of the Limbaugh show in the car this afternoon and Rush was going on and on about it on his show today too. He called the McCain campaign and it's staffers "disgusting" for trashing Gov. Palin...

NOPE, not so fast...

Read my above post that crossed with yours...

I think that there are a select 2 or 3 culprits here.... And, I think that it is very obvious that NONE of this could be tied to John McCain.... I would have to hear phone recordings or see emails to even begin to consider such a thing.

You are correct on one point...
His Campaign staff SUCKED....
It was outright embarassing to see the events and advertising that they came up with, as compared to Obama's dream machine.

Downright embarassing.... :sad2:

And, that can be tied to McCains poor choices in campaign management.
That is one of the places where McCain did 'go wrong'.

This latest thing regarding some unknown supposed 'staffers' negative an unacceptable comments re: Palin is just another example of this underlying issue.

I have only followed this story quite superficially. Has anyone within the Pepublican Party spoken up outraged over these claims? Has anyone from the party defended her?

I don't listen to Limbaugh... But, while I am sure he called the situation 'disgusting', I feel confident that Limbaugh is intelligent enough and insightful enough to realize that McCain has nothing at all to do with this, and that it is Romney Staffers, The Media, and others who are accountable.

I very highly doubt that Limbaugh would throw McCain under the bus by insinuatiing that McCain himself is 'disgusting' and has any direct ties to whatever is going on here.

His whole public existance hinges on supporting the conservative republican party.

Not yet... but hopefully this will be forthcoming...

Right now it seems that the whole party is reeling...

I imagine that they are trying to access the situation, just as we are....

He didn't mention Romney or his staffers, only the McCain camp as a whole. My thoughts are that Rush would probably throw McCain under the bus before Romney, only because Limbaugh has long disliked Sen. McCain. It's no secret that Rush begrudgingly threw his support behind McCain once he became the GOP's standard bearer as a vote against Sen. Obama.

Yes, I've seen a couple of interviews with various McCain designates and Republican Party officials defending her and denying the claims. Nothing from McCain himself yet.

The problem is, it is very difficult to fight an anonymous source.

I personally suspect that like most things, the Newsweek article has enough truth in it to pass editorial review, and there is also a good deal of opinion and speculation and plain old gossipy exaggeration. It kind of reads more like a Kitty Kelly book or the National Enquirer.

I don't know if any of the accusations are true or not, but I would think Senator McCain could easily put it all to rest if he were to make a statement about it.

We are Republicans that supported and voted for McCain. I didn't say that he is directly behind all this trash that's coming out against Palin. At the end of the day, his campaign staff is proving, once again, how pathetic and disjointed they really are. In the end, like it or not, it reflects poorly on Mc Cain and his choices.
