Thought you budget board DISers would be interested in my latest DIY project. I bought Rustoleum Countertop paint from Menards and painted our master bathroom pink laminate counter a really nice dark gray!

It was super easy to use (but smelly!) - the taping off took longer than the painting did! We had to wait 3 days to use it, but it seems to be holding up well...and it only needed one coat (self-sealing even).The paint can be tinted 16 different colors and was only $20!

wow! thanks. I have white laminate countertops in my kitchen and I hate them! Every spot shows. I will check this out!

Needed light fixtures for a new house. Found them on clearance at Lowe's, some as cheap as $4. The bases were all different colors, some brass, some silver, some nickel. Some glass was clear, other frosted. So, I drove to 5 different Lowe's, bought all they had. Painted the bases with a pounded nickel spray paint. The frosted glass in the main house, the clear glass in the closets and work room. The budget for lightening for the majority of the house was $200.

I just recently finished painting the 1st & 2nd floors of our house (probably about 2200 sq ft) myself. Next on the list is the landscaping, then repainting the interior trim work that needs touched up around the house.

I'm guessing that by painting the house myself I probably saved at least $5000.

I am reall interested in seeing these too please, our house has some weird laminate counter tops in our kitchen (like a green marble look) and the seller continued it over to the living room over the fireplace like a mantle I HATE it...would love another option (untl some day when we can afford to have them come in ; the company that puts granite tops right over the old laminate....years away from now though)

I LOVE cheap lighting upgrades! That was my other successful project this spring - I found new low voltage landscape lighting fixtures at Goodwill of all places. Brand new, high quality, for $4 each. So for $20 I replaced all of ours!

that looks great! you did a really good job. i've got laminate and had heard about painting it. on a side note, we used the pounded metal paint on two ceiling fans when we redid our lr and kitchen. they look great. well worth the $10.00 for the paint.

Your countertop came out FANTASTIC!!

We are in the process of refinishing the cabinets in our house. We've done a ton of projects, because we bought a project house and we are trying to get ready to sell. Unfortunately, the projects were mostly cosmetic...and we got an okay deal on the house 4 years ago, but to maximize our sale price on the house, we got to do some improvements!

Anyway, like I said. We are restaining the cabinets. We had honey like oak in the master bath. We went darker, to a chocolate like color. So. Much. Work. But they came out great. As soon as I get the bathroom clean, I'll post a pic.

Great job! It looks really nice. Question though, what can you use on it to clean it? Is it scrubbable?

It is supposed to be scrubbable with gentle cleaners...and it has "microbial resistant" qualities in it...so it is supposed to be good for kitchens and baths.
